All those who join in for their debut race from this point onwards will have the choice of cars 6-12 (V12 Vantage to Challenger) for their first race. The handicap will kick in after that.

Hi guys

Next week as I'm not working I would be able to join if there is a spot available.
This week-end I'll try cars from 6 to 12 to pick the right one for me.
Next Thursday I'll drink lots of coffee  make sure I'll be awake LOL

It's a difficult call; racing is so nice, but sleeping is soooooo nice :)

Fixed for you

Thanks for doing that Jammy, it would be a pity for Tom to miss the action at Monaco, by 48 hours.

Had a few minutes around the Principality today fellas and found a couple of things. Firstly, the Challenger is being removed as an option. It's about a second slower around there than the Maserati. I really don't want anyone to be demoralised by being lumped with a donkey. So, car No 12 is now the Maserati, and a lovely car it is.

Secondly, I didn't know this when I set up the championship, but there is no weather setting for Monaco. PD have obviously never heard of the classic 1996 wet race. Anyway, it's going to be a completely dry race, unless I wet myself, but that's a different matter.

Thirdly, I LOVE the Vantage, everything about it, the sophistication of its smooth V12, its gearbox, its balance, its massaging leather seats and its incredibly effective climate control. But I don't think it'll give me another pole. My tip for that is Mr Jocke, just watch that man go around those tight streets, in his Ferrari or Viper. Mark my words, this race is Jocke's ;)

Finally, we'll be having 35 laps there, enjoy!

EDIT: I was pleased with the 'track limits' setup at Apricot Hill, so we will be staying with the same arrangement at Monaco. Heavy penalties in place, take the chicane as you please, stick to usual rules elsewhere.

Cheers, Zo.

The Vantage is marvellous, but only for a while haha. It eats fuel (not so much of a concern here), but more importantly tires. I usually do rather well with the wear, but it dropped off precipitously several laps before I was due to stop. It's traction is not that great either, with gearing also not helping out of the tight hairpin.

I have to say, I'm not looking forward to Monaco. In fact, I think I'd rather be punched in the face for the duration of the race, rather than be there. But! It seems it is necessary if I want to consider participation in the championship as a whole since I missed the original "qualifying" round.

Definitely wasn't my best race.
I was going as fast as I could in the Aston vantage but I was 4-5 s off everyone's pace. At least I didn't get in the way of the leaders near then end...I think?
Funny how 1 car can be someone's paradise and another's nightmare!!

I doubt I'll do much better in the fast cars but hopefully I'll be a bit more competitive with you mega fast guys...maybe?
At least I get to drive the Ferrari all the time if I keep up my current performance.:D

Pretty much how I feel about Motegi LB. Don't know why I don't like it, but I really don't. Fact is, I think some of the best tracks I've ever raced on GT are ones created on the Custom Track App. Pity about the lag issues on them. Maiwald Ring, Shortrun, and one where we raced some mental Lamborghini on C/S. Magnificent. Hey ho.

Definitely wasn't my best race.

No, a most un-Suts-like performance. But you'll go well in the Daytona, if you choose to use it. It's narrow and light, perfect for Monaco. Top three I recon 👍

Attending a book launch today chaps. Some old geezer is giving his debut novel the Kindle treatment, and the book is called Zolon32, how could I refuse? I can recommend it if anyone has a suitable device and fancies a bit of light entertainment. A chap shoots his own mother dead in the first 600 words, by the way, and some people might not see that as particularly light entertainment; but what do they know? :)

Cheers, Zo.

Indeed. I'm considering it now, it might enable me to get back into racing. :mischievous:

his debut novel the Kindle treatment
Nice one! £1.22 well worth it to keep some old geezer going! 👍
And Science Fiction - excellent. Downloaded and ready to go. I'm in-between books at the moment so I'll start it soon.

Motegi is incredibly bland. The one interesting feature is the downhill braking zone, but other than that the course is completely forgettable. Definitely far from being one of my favourites.

I'm 100% sure of the inevitably of being collected in someone else's accident at Monaco. Even without the misfortune of attempting to pass. Anyway, I could go on, but who wants to hear that rant, haha.

Thanks Paul, I hope that you thoroughly enjoy it. It took around four years, but was an super experience. The author (ahem, he said, clearing his throat) is already on with the next which, I'm happy to report will contain a substantial amount of with smut and filth. Happy four years ahead then!

Not with the super-clean racers at Racers Reunited LB ;). But, then again, I still haven't managed to complete a single practice session without stuffing the damn motor and collecting damage entirely on my own, so I do expect to have to do an unscheduled pit stop on Tuesday.

I will be making a thread entry directly relating to the issues we will all face on the first, cold-tyre, bunched-together lap on Tuesday itself. Hopefully everyone will take heed.

Cheers, Zo.

@Zolon32 It has nothing to do with the "cleanness" of the racers. Even the cleanest make mistakes, clip the wall out of the chicane for example, causing a pile-up behind. That's really what I meant. The quality of the drivers is excellent.

Chaps, the concerns Longbow has expressed are legitimate, and I accept that he wasn't having a go at anyone, just voicing worries in light of the nature of the circuit, with the regs under which the race is being run. And he's right. On a scale of 1-10, where the chance of collecting damage at either Silverstone or Apricot Hill was around 2, at Monaco it's a good solid 9.

However, I've changed my mind about making a thread entry appealing for calm driving. The fact is that, in the two races so far, with cars heavy with fuel, on a wet track with cold tyres, and everyone packed closely together, the driving has been outstanding, in my opinion. There isn't any need for anything more to be said 👍

Roll on Tuesday. Online, I'm down to 51 flat, by the way, don't know how that compares?

Cheers, Zo.

I'm 51.2 (full tank) and then with new tires + 1/2 tank of fuel little under 51 so you're fine compared :)

Music to my ears Jammy. I can't wait! I've even managed a few laps without smacking the barriers now, and I still love the Vantage 👍

Cheers, Zo.

It looks like that I will be able to race.

Edit: putting heavy penalties means that cars automatically ghost to avoid contact... I guess it will be fine in Monaco but side by side racing won't be as fun as it was on Silverstone.

That's a very interesting point John. Do they ghost if penalties are on weak, or whatever the lower setting is?

I'm in two minds about your post Zeus, I thought you were going to be telling us that you'd got well under 51. But I'd rather have it that way than miss you :(

See you next time.

Cheers, Zo.

What's my car options tonight?

Aston Vantage downwards BB. I can honestly say that at Monaco I'm having no problem at all with the lifetime of the tyres using it. One practice the other day I got my fastest lap on No 14, and 18 laps gets you more than half way.

Cheers, Zo.

Apologies for arriving late and sorry the internet's been rubbish.
I disconnected as soon as the screen went black for qualifying. I thought it best to stay out and let you guys race.

Hope you had fun and a good race.
I'm working next Tuesday so I'll miss next week too.

Ah, my internet decided to put me out of my misery as well with an unusual disconnect. Strangely though, my brake pedal actually got better during the race. Still going to clean it out for the future (I had actually just fixed my gas pedal, and then the brake acted up!).

Also, apologies to aaroh, to whom I did precisely what I foretold above could happen.

Huge commiserations to those who suffered DCs last night fellas; we were on for the biggest grid yet, and lost a third of our racers :( Next week I will disable voice chat, in the hope that that will help matters.

Moving on, congratulations to Jammy, taking the win and moving into the slimmest of Championship leads. It looks like he and Aaroh will be having a long, hard scrap. And Rich really squeezed a good performance out of the M4, well done fella.

Unlucky to Harsk, picking up damage when in the lead. It looks like Longbow's observations were quite accurate. Still, I'm willing to bet that, if we had five similar races there, there would be no damage collected on the fifth; people would just drop that final 1%. Or maybe I'm deluded, it wouldn't be the first time

So, back to the grimy winter weather of Old Blighty next week, and a much more open, sweeping, overtake-friendly circuit, Brands Hatch. Interesting fact about Brands Hatch. It used to be the centre of Chariot Racing during the Roman rule of England, and was known as Brandius Hatchius. Not many people know that.

With CrazyJohn locked in to the Maserati, Jammy in the Boss, and Aaroh/Longbow having only the DB9 or lower available, might we have a fourth new winner from four races? There's only one way to find out!

Cheers, Zo.

EDIT: By the way, forgot to mention, John's pass on me, at the top of the really tight section following Casino. Amazing! Never saw that coming, and if I had I don't think I could have stopped it. Good piece of racing.

And, what a fantastic race Harsk, Jocke and me had for the final 12 laps or so. I really thought I was going to be able to push Harsk into getting too far sideways out of one of the tight corners, but it never came. So, overall, I guess I quite enjoyed it :)

Cheers, cheers, Zo.

what?!?! I thought disconnections counted for the handicap?
Also I didn't win any race.

No John, they don't; it's finishing positions that count. My reasoning for this is that a chap's finishing position gives some indication as to his pace, and can therefore be taken as a legitimate component of the handicap. A DC, on the other hand, does not indicate anything about a chap's pace; you can be DCd from 1st or last, so only finishing positions count.

I realise you haven't yet won a race, but in the one race you finished you came second. No one else has managed an average finishing position as high as second, so you have the best average finishing position of all at the moment. That might change after Brands, it depends where you finish, and where others finish too, but I'd be surprised if you didn't have a couple more cars available to you at least. Don't forget, there are nine races left, and as more and more results play into the handicap the fastest guys are going to find themselves driving the slowest cars. I fancy that you're going to do quite well overall if you keep at it 👍

Cheers, Zo.

Due to no longer being under the illusion that I'm actually competing for a championship or something, I will likely only appear at tracks that I actually enjoy driving.
