I'm surprised no one said anything about this yet.
IGN Preview
May 10, 2006 - It should be a well-known fact that most IGN editors are huge fans of the Rainbow Six series, specifically Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow. Ubisoft is showing a controlled demo (meaning that someone is playing live) of the next game in the series at E3 2006, Rainbow Six: Vegas. Let's just say that our love of the series looks like it may very well be renewed again come this fall. In other words, Vegas looks freakin' sweet.

First off, the game looks as good as the screenshots we've seen so far - there's been no doctoring going on here. It's sharp, complex and acts as a great example of what we should be expecting from next-gen systems. Characters feature smooth self-shadowing, their faces covered with the appropriate wrinkles and details you'd expect to see on a battle torn soldier. The environments aren't fully destructible, but there are tons of objects that'll break, shatter and splinter, lights that get blown out and so forth. Once bullets fly, all hell breaks loose.

The demo starts out with your team in a chopper cruising around above Las Vegas. A missile passes by the chopper and takes out a nearby building, sending Team Rainbow into action. Hopping out of the chopper and onto the roof, you and your teammates scan the area. While past games have made multiple pathways available for reaching your objective, Rainbow Six: Vegas looks to offer even more paths. One option for getting into the building from on top of the roof is to simply use the stairs. Sounds simple, but it could be guarded. Another option, the one that was demoed, was to repel down the side of the building and enter the "man's way".

When you begin to repel, the camera leaves your normal first-person mode and shifts to third. You're then able to see exactly where you're positioned and have complete control over your complex movement while still being able to shoot. Heading down a couple floors the first few enemies appear. It seemed like a good idea to hang upside down at this point, so that's exactly what the Ubisoft rep did. The camera then shifts in real close to an over-the-shoulder view, giving you a more exact view. After popping a few caps through the windows and taking out the enemies, the team then flips right-side-up, shimmies down a little, rears back and breaks through the window.

Working through the building, we were shown a few more new features. You're able to hug the wall or couch below cabinets or display cases, and in either case the camera kicks back out to third-person again. From here, you're able to fire off shots around the corner or over top of objects, though it appears that you're much less accurate if you don't fully pop out into the open.

Another new option is your snake cam. Sliding it under a door, you can get a nice and stealthy view of who's in the next room and even find alternate entrances. A huge part about this is that you're able to tag enemies for your teammates to take out when you enter. And speaking of entering, it looks as if you have much more natural ways to open and breach doors. While you're hugging a wall, you can backhand doors to open them without standing out in the open, and even toss grenades in the room with one quick "open-toss" motion.

The demo ends with the team finding some terrorists with hostages in hand. They're quickly taken out, but scanning the room reveals a timer. There's literally only two or three seconds left on it by the time it's noticed, so the team just has to sit there and meet their fate. Luckily for them the bomb's in another building - looking out across the city of Las Vegas, the top few floors of the tallest building in the distance explodes and begins to crumble. A shockwave emanates from the building, crawling across the sky, eventually getting to Team Rainbow's location and blowing out the windows, glass shattering and flying towards the camera. Fade to black, and our taste of the game was over.

We'll have more info on the game very soon, but for now know that the game is scheduled for release this fall. We really can't wait to see more.

The game looks really fun, the graphics are amazing, this will be a definite buy when it comes out this fall. 👍

Cool though it is, I must ask how it is "pushing the boundaries." Haven't multiple Tony Hawk games featured the ability to do so before?

I just watched this and I am very impressed! You can change your online characer options in over 5 million different ways(not an exaggeration) ranging from armor, clothes, hats, paint colors, and much more. Also if you put heavy armor on you will be slower. Cant wait to buy this game.

The frame rate is so much improved from the E3 demo. But Multiplayer has blander(not bland) graphics than single player with no shadows.

Just watched the latest trailer for this at Gametrailers and wow what a game, the locales and graphics look like a notch up from GRAW and the action and language is realistic. There's a point where they are capturing a woman at the end and she doesn't shut up so one of your guys goes:

"I will f'in shoot you, on your knees.... NOW!"

Ther demo is marked for today also, keep your eyes peeled.

Yes that was a great trailer. I am so excited about this game too. I loved GRAW and like you said this looks like a notch up from that. All the trailers are great for this game.

Dont be afraid to take some pretty screen shots for us Diablo. We know how you love to take screen shots and post videos. :sly:

Wow what a game, very difficult, got to take your time but at least your team are sharp and very very good shots and well disciplined.

LOL I'm just starting the level again and I left it for a few seconds to view a post and one of my guys is like "Hey Logan daydream on your own time."

The city looks even better then those photos, when shown through an HDTV, but this has to be one of the best looking games on the Xbox 360. But I reckon it can rival Crysis and Gears of War in some places.
