Chapter 5 - R33 Reborn
Yuka and Kei were gazing out of the apartment window, admiring Yukas new R33.
It looks so nice Yuka!
Thanks Kei. I like it too.
I like the blue. It looks so deep. Its such a shame you have to repaint it just so the police wont pull you over every time they see it.
Yeah. Although I am excited to be modifying this one by myself!
Hey Yuka, didnt that friend of yours who helped you with the Civic also drive an R33?
Friend? Oh! Yeah, he did
A silver R33
Why dont you ask if he has any spare parts? Im sure hed be happy to help.
Yeah Ill ask
Yuka sighed.
Whats wrong Yuka? Is it something I said?
No, no, no. Erm, its just
I
I cant pick a colour for the car!
Oh! Well Ive always liked those cars that are white with coloured wheels. Remember that Honda NSX we saw with the green wheels? Like that.
Yeah I like those, maybe I can paint the wheels pink!
Yuka! Thats a bit girly isnt it?
Says you! Everything you own is pink!
Yes but Im a girly girl! You hardly act your gender when it comes to clothes and cars.
Well I want to embrace my inner girl for once!
Let me know when youve embraced your inner girl fully, I want to actually take you for a manicure!
In your dreams!
Yuka and Kei burst out laughing, falling back onto the floor with joy.
The next day
Yuka brought the R33 to the local garage, the same one she took the Civic to after damaging the rear bumper.
Hey, TJ? You in here?
Yeah, one sec!
TJ emerged from under a badly damaged Nissan GT-R.
Hey Yuka. Whats up?
What happened to that GT-R?
The same thing that happens to every GT-R. It got wrecked because the driver believed into the hype too much. Apparently he thought he could beat a Lamborghini Gallardo around Suzuka. Seems he took a corner too fast and went straight into a wall.
Ouch. Thats what you get for being cocky.
Indeed. So what you here for?
I need to borrow a bay, just for the afternoon.
What? If you need help fixing a car I can help you know.
I know, but I want to fix this one up myself.
Well alright then. You can grab the bay beside the paint booth.
Thanks TJ.
Yuka parked the R33 in the empty bay and raised it up on the ramp. TJ approached Yuka.
Yuka, Ive been hearing some things from my customers.
Oh? About what?
Your Civic.
What about my Civic?
That it had been stolen.
Yeah
Its true. What else did you hear about my Civic?
That its never been seen on the road since it was stolen. Which leads me to two conclusions.
Whats the first one?
The car was taken to a warehouse, stripped for parts and sold in bits across Japan.
And whats the second conclusion?
The thief didnt care about the car, they just wanted to cause trouble for you.
So what would that mean for my car?
Its either wrecked, abandoned or both.
Yuka turned away, trying not to imagine the condition her Civic could be in.
Im sorry Yuka.
No, its not your fault, dont apologise.
Ill leave you to your Skyline.
Thanks.
Oh and by the way
Yeah, TJ?
If you do find your Civic, what will you do with the Skyline? Im assuming the Civic is more important to you than the Skyline.
TJ, can I make a confession?
Sure.
I dont expect this R33 to survive long enough for me to make that choice. Im going to find out where my Civic is and get it back, at any cost.
I dont want to see a fine car like this become a piece of a scrap metal, but I do understand your pain. Ive had a car stolen from me before.
Did you find it after?
Yeah. The car and the guy who stole it.
What did you do?
Nothing was left of the car. It probably got sold for parts. All that was left was the identification numbers and the number plates. I still have them hung up in my room.
So what about the thief?
Six feet under.
You killed him?
No, of course not. I found out that he was in debt to some gangsters. So I told them where he was hiding. They buried him alive, filmed it and sent me a copy.
Wow. What would you have done if the gangsters werent after him?
Beat him up at the most. Theres no point murdering him, Id just get into more trouble than he wouldve.
True
Yuka, think carefully before carrying out your revenge on this thief. Maybe the best thing to do is let the police deal with it.
Ill keep it in mind.
Okay. Ill leave you to it.
Yuka immediately got to work. She took the R33 apart and rebuilt it from the ground up. She readjusted the aftermarket suspension to suit her driving, making sure that she wasnt going to run into ground clearance problems on the road. She wrapped the wheels in a softer, more grippy compound of tyre, to replace the existing rubber, but not before repainting the gold TE37 wheels in a shade of deep pink. Yuka exchanged the small turbo for a larger one, increasing power output. She gave the engine a full service before switching her attention to the bodywork. The standard bonnet and spoiler were ditched in exchange for carbon fibre items. Anything on that car that was deemed useless was removed in an attempt to reduce weight. Yuka had completely transformed the R33 in a single afternoon. There was just one thing left until Yuka could call it done. She rolled the R33 into the paint booth and opened some tins of white paint.
Later on
Kei was watching TV in the apartment, before she was suddenly interrupted by the sound of Yuka coming home. Kei looked out of the window to see a white R33 outside.
Is that Yukas car? Wow it looks totally different now.
Kei ran down to greet Yuka.
Yuka!
Hey Kei.
It looks so different now!
Yeah it took all afternoon but I did it.
I really like the colour scheme!
Thanks Kei.
Is it faster than before?
A little bit faster. I just changed the turbo and reduced the weight a bit.
Tech Specs
Car: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (R33) 97
Owner: Yuka
Drivetrain: 4WD
Power: 602 BHP
Weight: 1309 KG
Oh I see. Yuka I was thinking...
Kei can it wait? I really need to shower. Im covered in oil and I tore my shorts on the tool bench.
Yeah sure, go ahead.
Thanks Kei.
Later on
Yuka walked into the living room, wearing her dressing gown. She sat down beside Kei and started brushing her hair. Kei was holding Yukas shorts.
Um, Kei? Shouldnt those be in the bin?
Sorry Yuka, I was trying to see if I could mend them for you.
Its okay Kei, theyre old, I have more.
But Yuka, the tear is so big, did you scratch your leg?
Yeah, I didnt realise how deep the cut was until just now though.
How deep? Do you need a bandage?
I bandaged it up in the bathroom. Its okay, just a bit sore when I touch it, thats all.
Can I see?
Kei! Its embarrassing!
Arent you wearing any
?
Yuka blushed and turned away.
Oh Yuka, you
Can we change the subject?
Sure. Oh! I was going to ask you something before
Yuka turned back to Kei, making sure her gown didnt reveal anything underneath.
What was it, Kei?
Yuka, please dont be mad, okay?
Mad about what?
About what Im going to ask you.
Okay
Yuka
I was thinking that
Maybe
We could
Go out for dinner tomorrow?
Kei started to blush, realising Yuka could read her like a book.
Kei, you know how I feel about this whole thing between us.
I know Yuka, but I just want to spend some time with you. Youve been so busy lately with your car stuff. You need to relax.
Yuka sighed and walked over to the window, gazing at her R33.
Yuka?
Under one condition.
Anything, Yuka!
We go to a fast food place, nothing fancy.
But Yuka
Its my only condition.
Alright Yuka, but can we at least sit in at Pizza Hut?
Sure, why not.
Yay Yuka!
