Ahhh! I love Metal Gear Solid to death! This and Syphon Filter FTW!!! :D

I have only played MGS1, MGS2 SOL and MGS4 GOTP. But I don't have MGS3 though. :ouch: Gotta get it soon, mostly the PS2 one for my collection. Can't wait for MGSV as well.

Sorry about getting off topic though. And thanks for the AK-47/Kalasnhinov/AKM info. I'll look up more info later on them all. 👍

MGS3 is my favorite one. You missed out on a good one. I haven't played the PSP versions, yet.

OK, back to guns.

I second SL's comments on grip. A nice firm grip is good to keep the gun from shifting in your hand every time it recoils.

Also thanks for the AK3.14159MQ! trivia. I didn't know there were so many iterations.

Thinking about buying a Swiss K1911 lately, the straight pull action is really sweet. Its like the child of a semi auto and bolt action rifle. :dopey:
Plus, those rifles are available for 250-350 bucks depending on condition, and the best thing - the round uses 7.62 bullets so reloading is easy. I really need to get one of those.

Whenever I see him operating the bolt I want to take the action out, polish all its bearing surfaces with a piece of cloth and metal polish, oil it and see how freakin' smooth I can make it.

........I have to buy one of these. NOW. The itch must be scratched.

Do it! Faora commands you!

Yes, do it! Or she'll freeze your crotch and snap it off!

God, thanks for info on AKM guys. 👍 Around here, you get nothing but negative impression of the AKMs by talking to people, because all you hear about is how it has "stamped" receiver. I think I mentioned it before, but little short article by Japanese paper website didn't make it seem like it was all bad with the AKM rifles, but they didn't really clarify either. Now I am aware of some advantages the redesign has to offer. Milled receiver sounds much sturdier, but taking cost & availability into account, if I ever buy a AK, I wouldn't be afraid of a stamped receiver.

But speaking of next rifle purchase, it would be a bolt-action:

Sounds good to me, bro.
Hickok Vid
Yeah, most definitely.

P.S. I want to try out that MGS technique, but I probably shouldn't do that at the range. :P

I've heard people say that a stamped AK will last you a lifetime, and a milled AK will last you two.

*Glock Trip*

Looks like you had a good time. Are you still thinking about getting a Glock?

--

I went on a kind of impromptu shooting trip yesterday. I met a friend that I haven't seen in a while for lunch and we ended up going shooting afterwards. He brought his Glock 19 and Browning Hi-Power while I had my M&P Shield. I've never shot a Hi-Power before, and his trigger, with the magazine disconnect removed, is nice and crisp. Otherwise, it was also a pleasure to shoot.

For one of my turns, I loaded six rounds into my Shield, 3 regular 115 grain FMJ rounds and 3 124 grain +P hollow points and shot them back to back to compare the difference in kick. The hollow points had a little bit more of a bang and a little bit more of a kick, though not as much of a difference as I had expected. It was a good experiment though.

I need more practice shooting.

Hi-Power is a cool gun. I hope I get to shoot one sometime. That John Browning, what a genius!

Am I thinking about getting a glock? No. My aunt has plenty for me to use. Now I want to shoot different things to see what differs where, etc. The huge advantage I'd have is access to all her glock gear on range days. But what would be the difference between my own glock and one of hers? Not much.

That said, I was pretty impressed with the 17. The 34 was way too long and goofy for me. Took a lot longer to get back on target, and it shot low and right while the 17 was high and right. It's much easier to hold low.

The other 3 I most want to try now are an S&W M&P, the Steyr M-A1, and the PPQ. I'd also like to try a Springfield XD, but I don't like that grip safety. Then again, I've never fired one, so I'm not sure how much I don't like it. :P

I'd go for a handgun collaboration by Sig and Steyr. It'd be called the Sour Man Licker.

If I ever bought another (full/compact)9mm Glock, it would be the Glock 19 Crash just mentioned. I think it's the most practical size they make for that caliber. I also LOVE Glock 26, but that's a different animal.

I didn't like grip safety before I got my 1911. I don't know about the one on XD pistols, but grip safety on my Kimber, only time I even remember it's there is when I'm cleaning the gun.

People swear by Glocks, M&P's been receiving rave reviews. Only person I know who has PPQ's Brett, but he loves his. Man, lot of great handguns to choose from. You are going with the 9mm too then?

Probably. Went to Bass Pro Shops and the handgun ammo was totally wiped out. Only thing left was super expensive 40S&W Golden Saber and other hollow points.

Luckily, we were able to buy a 9mm bulk pack-- the last one-- that they had behind the counter. 26 cents per round. Better than the internet. :D

That and if I get into reloading I can buy a whaledick load of 9mm brass from the police.

The M&P is phenomenal! First handgun I ever bought and I trust my life to it (I've tried to make it FTF/FTE and can't do it), can't ask for a better firearm that's made in America.

Reliability is so sexy in handguns. :D

When I had my 9mm, my measure of low(er) price was .20 cents s round($10 for the box), but those days are probably gone now. For my .45, the best deal I could get was 100 rounds for $30(Winchester brass) at Walmart. I'm certain I'll never see those again. Ever. :(

Any day for cheaper ammo is gone now sadly. :nervous:👎:scared::ill:

Doing some dirty math, I worked out that I could reload at the cost of 13 and a third cents per shot. But it would take 5k-10k shots to return my investment, depending on the cost of dies and presses. That doesn't include time.

How do we have so much unemployment when there is ammo to be made?

Re: PPQ. I hope I can find a mk1 with the lever mag release. I really want to try a gun with a lever to compare to a button. All the controls on the left side is so odd. So is racking the slide when the opening is not facing you.

I see. I wasn't sure if you were thinking about a Glock for your own use, or if you wanted to have something else; I don't know if you have any plans beyond using it as simply a range gun.

It's all a matter of personal preference, but I'm not a big grip safety fan myself. One thing about grip safeties that my friend told me about is this:

*Ignore title of video, it is misleading and there is no gore at all

In that video, the guy puts his thumb behind the slide and pulls the trigger. In an emergency close quarter defense situation, if your striker fire gun is pressed up against the body of the assailant, the slide could be out of battery and thus the gun wouldn't fire. If you put your thumb behind the slide, it can hold the slide in place and allow the gun to fire, so that hopefully once the shot is fired, you can back up, rack your slide and be ready for the next shot. You wouldn't be able to do that on a gun with a grip safety.

Of course, I do not recommend that you stick your thumb behind the slide at all, but my friend has done it on his Glock 19 and that video also demonstrates the technique, and in a life or death situation, it may be a worthwhile option to have.

Luckily, we were able to buy a 9mm bulk pack-- the last one-- that they had behind the counter. 26 cents per round. Better than the internet. :D

Nice. I found some 9mm in my area for 41 cents per round in a box of 100. I haven't done any real digging around for cheaper prices though.

Sounds like you want to find a handgun with ambidextrous controls, though unfortunately most require setting the gun up for left-handed folks.

If you want to try a lever magazine release, you can also try HKs.

Do it! Faora commands you!

Yes, do it! Or she'll freeze your crotch and snap it off!

''Buy a gun'' That has always been my favorite command, she well be so very pleased with me.

Well...that its yours? And yours only? That you have access to it all the time? That you can upgrade it however you want?

Yeah, reloading just for one pistol caliber is not that economical, but once you step into the large rifle territory reloading becomes a necessity unless you poop gold bars on a daily basis. You can also increase reliability and accuracy by matching the ammo to your gun.

I say, get reloading equipment if you plan to have more than one gun/caliber or getting a rifle in a big caliber in the future. For just one round its not worth it unless you shoot a 1000 rounds through it every weekend.
Buy a glock and a scoped precision rifle so you have an awesome excuse to get into reloading, because making your own ammunition is fun fun fun.

If you come to Oklahoma, then you can shoot my PPQ.

Not really sure where to post it, but a few knives arrived in the mail yesterday. :dopey:

A DA tried correcting my thumbs forward handgun shooting grip, saying that the best way to hold a gun was low on the grip to avoid being hit by the moving parts.

Puh-leeze.

Well...that its yours? And yours only? That you have access to it all the time? That you can upgrade it however you want?

Remember, I'm still a po' college kid. I'm not going to spend the cost of the gun upgrading and customizing a gun.

Ideally, I'd get something with at least a 4 inch barrel (so I can shoot at the gun club) that I can also choose to carry.

Zenith: what's a DA? Dumb Ass?

I'm new here just thought I'd post about a few guns I have! For my 16th birthday my dad got me a Beretta 9mm clone. It's literally the exact gun that the US forces use as their side arm. It's not a rare gun by any means but it is my favorite. Then for my 23rd he bought me a Beretta 9mm that has a smaller barrel and is a bit shorter over all its easier to conceal. I have an SC CWP so I like to have it in my car (I work in a bad area) and the original one was just too big.

I had one of those in my possession for roughly 20 minutes, then sold it. :indiff:
The wife and I were at a gun show in Niles. I had seen this K1911 sitting on a table for $350. I picked it up, gave it the look over, sat it back down, went on my way. Later on before we left, I told the wife that we need to go back to this guys table. I was going to buy that K1911. So we went back, it was still there. I reached in my wallet, flashed him 3 $100 dollar bills, he accepted. Got it for $300. I thought it was a good deal. As we were leaving, we got approached by a gentleman outside who wanted to buy this gun. I was skeptical about it, but told him "yeah, I'll sell it .... $450". The guy reached in his pocket, grabbed a roll, and I mean a roll. Handed me $450, shook my hand, patted me on the back and said thanks, appreciate it.

I'm like you Michael88, I need to get one now. Another one that is.

I've heard people say that a stamped AK will last you a lifetime, and a milled AK will last you two.

That's why I'm not afraid to run Tulammo or Wolf through my SKS. These guns were made to eat this stuff. However, I won't run this stuff through my Sig, Smith, Ruger, etc. etc.

Am I thinking about getting a glock? No. My aunt has plenty for me to use. Now I want to shoot different things to see what differs where, etc.

Have you ever handled / shot a Sig Sauer ? I love them, that's my personal carry, Sig P226 9mm. It's lightweight, comfortable, easy to handle.

*** Gun News ***

Illinois (Obama's home state) has just given the green light for citizens to conceal carry.
Article

How do you guys think this will effect the crime rate up there now ?
Criminals now know that citizens may be packing heat. Maybe lessen it ? Maybe it will turn Chicago into a war zone ? Could be interesting ... we'll see what happens up in the windy city.
