That's a nice P226.

It's interesting that many concealed carry permit holders seem to choose to carry a full-size pistol rather than something smaller and intended to be concealed.

As you alluded to, concealability is probably the paramount concern. However, if you haven't tried already, I think you'll be surprised how easily a well-fitted holster with pistol actually conceals, even full size ones. I would say a full-size pistol can be pretty easily concealed if you're heavier built, or if not, then in winter clothes with a coat. I have a friend who carried a 1911 daily, and has recently moved on to carrying a full-sized M&P. Even if you know what to look for, you can't tell that he's carrying.

I personally do carry something that is smaller and intended to be concealed. However, when winter rolls around, I do plan on getting a larger, if not full-sized, pistol to carry since I know I can conceal it perfectly well under a coat, even though I'm pretty lightly built.

Seriously, you'd be surprised how easy it is to conceal the Sig. Typically, I wear jeans and and T-shirt (sometimes a Polo or a button up). Pending on how you locate the gun / holster on your waist, it can very easily be covered up without anyone suspecting you are carrying, just as Crash has also indicated below.

Winter time concealed carry .... it's a breeze. Lots of places to locate your firearm.

That's a nice P226.

Thanks :P

Grrr, I forgot to ask something in my previous post.

What are you guys using for gun cleaner and lube ?
I have been using (and love the stuff) the products from Hoppe's. They seem to be working just fine for me.

Lately, I've been hearing from the guys at the gun clubs I belong to, that they are using this product called Frog Lube. ( LINK ) They are swearing by it. They are saying it cleans better, has better lubricity, just overall a better product than Hoppe's. That's a pretty stiff claim, IMO.

I'm typically not one to change up on products (especially when it concerns my guns) once I find a good one. However, I am open about it though.

Any users of this stuff ? Thoughts / Opinions ?

Thanks in advance guys. 👍

I've haven't used it, but I guess its worth a try.

(And to think, I almost said "worth a shot".) ;)

My father with his .17 HMR he uses to woodchuck hunt (tournament a few years ago) and a deer he got a few years ago.

This is me popping off rounds on my uncles M4 a few weeks back. Unfortunately the phone quit recording before it recorded the fully automatic stuff. That's my uncle standing next to me.

Sorry for the low quality video. It's much better on my dads phone, he recorded it. He sent to me though and the quality dropped.

Can you have your dad come over to my house and get rid of my groundhog / woodchuck problem? I have one that keeps getting into my yard destroying everything. Eating all my flowers and eating my privacy fence. :ouch:

Hey, thats either a Remington 760 or a 7600, isn't it? 308? 30-06? You don't see to many of these around nowadays...
It's a Mossberg 20 gauge shotgun from what I heard. Could be wrong though. I've never shot it. It's definitely a shotgun though because we can't hunt deer with rifles in my county. It holds 5 shells.

Gladly :) Give me directions

Lubrication of the action and moving parts: Olykon gearbox lube. Very stable even in extreme temperatures.
Rust protection: a thin layer of anti-squeal brake lube on non-visible parts (underside of barrel, receiver etc.) and visible parts + barrel with WD40
Bore cleaner: Forrest bore foam (awesome stuff, but aggressive, follow the instructions carefully)

On the lube/cleaner I'm lazy, I've gone back to Rem Oil. On the handguns, I still use the Militec inside, but Rem Oil on the outside, since I'm told Militec sucks against moisture.

On the pump action Remington or Mossberg, my buddy has a Remington pump action rifle. I think it's pretty weird, but it probably would be fun to shoot. He's left-handed, so way he shoots is 🤬 up anyway. j/k

Edit: I forgot to add, I also use Breakfree Powder Blast for more thorough cleaning.

Anyone know where I can get a ruger mini 14 with the original folding stock like this? I'm not really fond of purchasing weapons online and having them shipped to a dealer.

Okay guys. I got a good one for you. I want to sand down my 10/22 stock. Enough to remove barrel band and make edge smooth. Now I know I can go buy another stock but I think it'd be fun to sand it to my liking and get it how I want. Does anyone know how I should go about this process without messing it up?

Is it made or wood or fiberglass? If it's fiberglass don't waste your time.

I'm running a mini experiment right now with my AR. About 500 rounds ago I did a 10 minute clean with Simple Green (all purpose cleaner) and a rag then lubed it with motor oil. I want to see if all this special gun-lube stuff is actually worth anything for my uses so I'm just going to shoot it until it starts to malfunction.

Back to the question about the Remington 760...it's not a 760 I just looked in my gun cabinet and it is a Mossberg 500C 20 Gauge shotgun.

You have to sand down the whole stock, if you only sand down parts of your stock theres going to be ugly color variations. Its like partially removing car finish on a car, you have to remove the whole finish.

Remove the finish of the stock entirely with coarse and then fine sandpaper, the stock will be completely white when you're done with the sanding, thats when you polish the surface with fine steel wool until its really shiny and all the scratches from the sand paper are gone.
Apply wood stain of the color of your choice to give the wood some color. Use a wide painting brush to get an even coloring.
When you're done with the staining you'll notice that the wood is kind of rough again, polish it with steel wool once more and then apply linseed oil.

You'll need to oil the stock several times over a period of months before the finish looks nice again.

Protip: before you start with the oiling process let the stock and the oil can sit in the hot sun for half an hour, this way the pores of the wood open and the oil gets thinner. Let it also dry in the sun.

It's wood. I just would like to keep same color and all, just sand parts of it to make it fit my hands and stuff.
Michael said it best. Now is a good time to change the color of the finish if you want. I love Russian Red furniture personally.
Surely minis with folding stocks and pistol grips are illegal in NY state now aren't they?

Oh, they want me to register it. [/sarcasm]

I'm not worrying about it. Every county in the state except about 10 undecided ones are repealing the SAFE act. It's semi-auto anyways and that isn't illegal. The guns aren't illegal as long as they have 5 round magazines in them.

That said, as far as I know, the Ruger Mini-14 is NOT on the list of banned weapons so I'm ok anyways. Which doesn't make sense. It has banned features, but it's not on the banned list. LOLWUT?

I'll do what I have to to get it though. I want it. Bad. If I have to wait a bit and move out of state I will but I WILL own this gun. It's one of my dream guns.

This comes up every now & then, it seems. Bruther from this very thread I think mentioned that he used some sort of motor oil before, though I could be wrong. Anyway, you google guns enough times, you are bound to run into this topic more than once. It'll be an interesting experiment(on your AR :P). Good luck.

I absolutely love Outers cleaning kits. Just thought I'd put that out there.

And what kind?

If you don't like buying them on line, which by the way, this purchase must go through an FFL dealer, then your pretty much screwed. The only alternative to avoid registration and going through an FFL is purchasing this item at a gun show. Good luck finding one though.

A BTW for you ..... You do this gun is on the "hitlist" don't you ? (Link provided below). Just in case this crap rolls around again, which it will. Right Now, the Politicians are "reloading" for round II. Hang on !

Yup 👍 Just be careful not to sand to rough as to avoid any markings. Are you stripping it down completely to do this ?

I'm currently re-doing a Mosin M91/30 right now for a customer. I'll post some more pics of this project tomorrow or Friday (time permitting)

Let us know how that works. Thanks 👍

What weight oil?

There is an old timer at one of my gun clubs who uses straight 30 non detergent oil on his "toys". He swears by it .... IDK

Thanks to all who had some input on the cleaners by the way. I'm going to go out this weekend and get a sample package of this Frog Lube stuff and give it a whirl, we'll see. It's gonna be hard to beat Hoppe's 9 in my opinion. Yeah, as stated ..... this stuff smells great too. :dopey::lol:

At nick

I didn't see the gun itself on the list but I can always replace the stock until I move out of New York.

True, the gun itself is not on the hit list. What I provided were the "hit-list guns" and some of the "hit" stipulations. The stock is what is going to get you, in or out of NY, doesn't matter. If you want one, you better get on your horse and get it before round II rolls around, otherwise ........

Well the gun with the stock I want is $1250. With a standard rifle stock it's nearly half that. Out of New York State depending it should be fine the way it is in the picture I posted which is what I ultimately want. I've taken a liking to that model.
