Agreed, doesn't look over the top, just very practical.
Probably not, I don't know the gun but pretty much all synthetic stocks are hollow inside so such a screw set wouldn't work. (If they weren't hollow they would be HEAVY)a) Would (wood)screw kit like this work OK for synthetic stock?
Use Duracoat, but only with a compressor and an airbrush pistol. The shake'n spray kit sucks. Spray can might work, depending on the quality. Check this out:b) I'm sort of interested in rattle canning the stock to different color. Is it as simple as just removing the stock, spray, then coat it with something?
That's what I was afraid of. I may be able to rig something up with them, but if I installed those screws as intended, I didn't think it would hold for very long. I'll check out the stock next time I have it off, see how much meat it has, if much at all.Probably not, I don't know the gun but pretty much all synthetic stocks are hollow inside so such a screw set wouldn't work. I wasn't even going to bother with any proper kits. Just basic spray cans from hardware store, go for total white trash finish, since it's like $100 rifle.Use Duracoat, but only with a compressor and an airbrush pistol. The shake'n spray kit sucks. There's an idea. 👍If the stock has some meat where you want to install those screws you could drill a hole, fill that part with epoxy and glue the screws in place. Though I have no idea how well the epoxy would hold those screws in place.

I used to look for aftermarket stocks that came with sling attachments, but the cost is bit high, considering it's a rifle I want to enjoy on the cheap. Plus, they have plenty of stocks available for Ruger 10/22, but there are very, very little to choose from when it comes to Remington 597. I don't want to turn it into some awkward looking special-tactical rifle either(most popular aftermarket stock for 597).![]()
I have this one. I was hoping it said something about the stock but it doesn't.I've got a 597 laying around somewhere. I think its fiberglass but don't quote me on that.
Israel joke
Don't remind me. ALL my friends has 10/22, and they still give me crap about my .22 rifle. What sucks is that one of those 10/22 guys was with me when I bought the 🤬 gun, and he didn't talk me out of it!
It was my first gun, I knew nothing about guns. To top it off, my early production 597 came with defective magazines, which made my first firearm ownership somewhat sour. Remington still sucks in my book for that.

I don't think that's a 597. 597 is a semi-auto .22LR rifle, comes with a 10-round clip magazine.
Maybe the 5 rounds was a NY thing. I honestly don't remember how much my original magazine held, but it just jammed everything anyway.Oops I was thinking of my other .22, my bad. My 597 is a (confirmed, I just looked) wooden semi auto with a 5 round insert able clip/magazine thingy. The clip is small, looks kind of like a box.

Factory mag looks like this. I have one of those(updated one), plus three banana style one, which I think holds 30.
SlashfanMy ruger 10/22 is the same with the 5 round thing. I do have a banana for the 597 but its 11 rounds like one of my tube fed semi autos.
That's terrible. I have a tri-mag each Mag holding ten, so a total of thirty in that clip, then I have three bx-25 Ruger magazines that hold 25 a piece is there regulation on magazine size where you are?
DOODS. I need to get me a Negev.
If IWI can bring out a TAR-21 with the X95 style mag release, that would be perfect. Maybe make an extra long one in .308 while they're at it. The new Galil Ace looks pretty cool too, but man alive does that thing squirm. The piston in that thing must throw back as much torque as a Toyota.
BrettI am thinking of buying a .22LR rifle. I would guess Ruger 10/22 is the choice to buy?
SlashfanYes in New York they just passed a law called the safe act that limits you to 7 rounds including 1 in the chamber. The entire state is in an uproar trying to overturn it. Every magazine you have over the limit after 1 year is a felony for each one. So I'd have about 350 felonies. For doing nothing. Because we have a lot of military surplus that was sold off to the public.![]()

Yup. At least $12 a box if not more and that's for only 50 rounds. One more thing, you picked a terrible time to get a .22 because the ammo is impossible to find.

I have one. Absolutely fantastic gun. It jams on occasion but for its age that's expected. 5 round magazine. It has taken a fair amount of abuse.
They are good looking rifles. One of the guys who played Call of Duty with our [GTP] clan had one of those, and I had never even heard of them before that.I want the Galil in .308, can't beat an ultra reliable AK-ish rifle in a powerful caliber.![]()
597 is a good rifle(now), and mine has been pretty rock solid since purchasing the new mags, but yeah, if you want parts & accessory availability & selections, also people not laughing at you, stuff like that, yes, I would recommend the 10/22. If 10/22 stock comes with a way to attach a sling, then it's a no-brainer.I am thinking of buying a .22LR rifle. I would guess Ruger 10/22 is the choice to buy?
As I was reading that, I was thinking who'd be a better firearm salesman than Michael! You are in the wrong business man!Sold a milsurp rifle to one of my relatives.
Strangely, I enjoy briefing someone on a new gun - its technical specifications, how to take it apart, how to operate it properly, the ammo specs and its history- more than I should. Must have been a firearms instructor or drill sergeant in my former life.
Something tells me that they already half-expect your inner-competitiveness.Anyway, I have the same rifle and I cant wait to have a small family rifle duel next time on the range. With my super accurate handloads I will crush his pathetic attempts to outshoot me!![]()
Oh wait, its supposed to be a fun and relaxed sort of ''duel''....![]()
One more thing, you picked a terrible time to get a .22 because the ammo is impossible to find.
Brett: You probably remember him. I don't want to mention his name on here, but he was also from Oklahoma, and although he played MW2 all the time with us, he's not a gtplanet member.
I need couple of advice, if anybody has opinion:
My Remington 597 rimfire rifle has synthetic stock with no holes or swivels for slings.
