That Kel-Tec looks like a complete piece of junk. I would never want to own a firearm that doesn't feed and shoot reliably.

How a company with shaky reputation on traditional action decides to attempt at a shotgun design like that is beyond me. Damn shame indeed.

I don't really think they could set off those serious problems totally when operating their products, As Solid Lifters said it's all the same doubtful whether they're able to work normally without failure or not at the moment, after the company claiming the issues to state they're already running good. :grumpy:

It appears to you that the products themselves haven't made much progress leading the problems to conclusion, for all being said by the gunner that "the former one was a piece of junk and I hope this one works better." at the beginning of the video. :D

Look at his arm though. It totally chewed up his wrist and made it bleed. What kind of moron designs a gun to eject casing right onto your wrist?

Side ejection on a bullpup means that opposite hand shooting ejects casings into the shooter's arm or chest. Most bullpups make the bolt reversible for left handed shooters, but this still means that the shooter can't switch hands on the fly. It would also suck to have a mix of lefty and righty shooters in a group at the range because that means the gun needs to be partially disassembled between shooters or somebody gets to eat hot brass.

I would guess that KelTec wanted to ape the P90's downward ejection design that offers a solution to the bullpup problem, but something went wrong and changed the ejection just enough to hit that guy's wrist.

The KSG is an interesting concept. The dual magazine idea could be useful for hunting, but for any kind of self defense scenario I think it would be hard to train oneself to flip the switch on the bottom. Most people have it engrained in their head that click means reload. I think a mechanism could have been added to the design to automatically swap sides on empty, but that would require more engineering than Kel Tec seems capable of and wouldn't work well if the shooter loaded two kinds of ammunition.

I've never really liked the ergonomics of bullpups, but the Steyr that I fired a while ago was just a really nice gun.

Reminds me of when I was shopping for my shotgun. Initially, I wanted this cool new Remington, I think called 887. Looks like a pump action out of a sci-fi. Badass.

I instead went with the old, but proven Remington 870. My 870 certainly doesn't look as cool, but like Crash, I also think reliability is a must!

My 870 youth 20 gauge rusts really bad all over. Of course I also live in Louisiana where it's extremely humid, but if I leave it out in the house without a cover over it, it rusts a little in less than a week.*edit* BUT! That does not mean I don't love that gun. I have and always will love that gun. I really would like to get *spelling* duracoat or ceracoat? That would be really cool. I just would want black, but I just need something to protect it from...the air. Literally lol.

God, I understand that. I read your post this morning, and mentioned it to the guys at work today, and although it's not very humid around here, they were telling me that if you leave it under the bed or something, you could see rust.

I hear you on having them coated. If I lived in Louisiana, I'd seriously consider that option. I hear they are spendy, but sounds like a very good investment to me!

My shotty, I spray & wipe with Rem Oil, which supposedly protects well against rust. I hope that's enough!

What I would do if I were you in this case (money pending in your situation). Go out and buy a gun bag (they can be had as low as $20) and a small packet of silica desiccant. Clean the gun up 1st. Oil it down. Put gun in bag along with the silica desiccant. The silica desiccant will act as a dehumidifier in this case to help preserve your gun.

Cerakote and duracoat are great alternatives as well. This process would run you a little more money, but well worth it in the long run.

The only reason I'd want duracoat or ceracoat over just a case is for the long term durability. And like I said, I love the gun, it just rusts so bad. From what I've seen, duracoat/cerakote is about $250 for a whole gun. Of course they'd take it all apart and only do the immovable parts. But that's not so so bad as far as price. When it really gets pricy is when I look and find the closest authorized user is over 100 miles away. So gas money or FFL shipping fee. Either way, more. But one day this Christmas, or next tax season lol, I'm probably just going to make the trip and get it done.

You could probably zinc plate it for much cheaper than that. All you need for that is some tubing, a big tub, a bucket, and a battery.

NB: This would probably be a terrible idea, but it would be cheap.

Lol. That's funny. It would be cheaper, I'm sure. Would zinc actually work? And is zinc not poisonous? Don't laugh at my dumb questions, I just like knowledge. Lol.

Boy, that write up is just depressing. Brett(same or different Brett, I don't know) commented how the MSRP nearly doubled, which I noticed as well. When I was interested in it, I think it was under $700.

Guy is trying to inspect & study the firearm, looking for ways to get the gun to work right, improve it. Exactly the type of gun I'd never ever want to touch. If I spend real money, I expect that product to function. I don't want to figure out how to make the gun work right.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. 👍

I'm a happy camper guys! I went to Dicks Sporting Goods and found 22lr for 0.08¢ a piece. That's incredible! First I've seen at that price since the ammo craze.

That's still like double the high price before the shortage.

We finally got Dick's in our neighborhood, something like 3, 4 years ago, and everybody I know avoid them due to high retail pricing. I also didn't like how they took some rifles off their shelves after the Connecticut shooting.

It's definitely not a store I like to go into for my ammo, but I know they are like Wal-Mart and randomly get in nice shipments and haven't gone up too too much in price. And let me get another couple of 1,000's of 22 and we'll see about shipping some! ;)

I'm sure he meant eight cents. .22LR under a penny-per-round, not possible. At least not possible, retail!

I picked up a Walther P22 today. The picture makes the OD Green look like a much different color.

Absolutely one of my favorites.
I've made 100 yard shots with that exact model (on 8" metal plate targets).
My only advice, don't use crap ammo, it will not cycle reliably. I find CCI mini-mag is always reliable and accurate.

With the price of .22LR being so cheap in comparison to everything else, even the better stuff like CCI Mini-Mags, I will likely only be feeding the thing better ammunition. The only problem is, .22LR is something I have seen the least. .22LR sells as soon as it is put on the shelves it seems. Fortunately, I have 200 rounds of Mini-Mags and another 200 rounds of high velocity Federal. I have another 200 rounds of lower velocity CCI stuff and hopefully, those will function well. If not, then not really a lot of money lost.

Congrats on the purchase Brett! I chose Ruger SR22 over P22, solely because how SR22 "ate everything", but that certainly hasn't been the case with mine.

I looked around for some CCI Friday. No .22LR whatsoever.

Here a crappy clip of mine; was my last visit to the range:

Was shooting some empty shell casings on the wooden plank.

This was before Aurora, plenty of ammo. Speaking of, I have family in Aurora. My cousins were watching the midnight showing of Dark Knight Rises just the next theater over. Too close for comfort.

Oh, the AR was my friend's, but been wanting get/build on myself for quite some time. Just need a bit more info and advice.

10W40 Castrol. I basically used whatever was going in my car.

Also, the AR in it's current state.

That looks clean. How much did everything cost? 👍

I feel so bad for y'all, honestly. That's what I was able to find in bricks yesterday. It wasn't mini-mag, but it was the standard velocity and high velocity kind. I wish I had enough cash to buy it all and help out, but doesn't seem to be the case. They had an unlimited supply too. And no ammo limit.

I stopped by the local Dick's Sporting Goods before heading into work for a bit today. I wanted to see if they had any .22LR in stock. They did not. I did look at a Ruger 10/22 Takedown though. I think if I am to buy a 10/22, then that is probably going to be the model I pick up. The Takedown is pretty slick. There is a lever on the bottom side. Push the button forward, twist, pull the barrel forward, and the rifle is now in two pieces.

I also swung by Academy too. I wanted to check their price on the 10/22 Takedown. Same price. I did pick up another 100 rounds of the .22LR Federal High Velocity stuff. Now I just have to find some time for a range trip.

I really like the takedown model. I also like the one they call I think the "survival rifle"?

While its compactness for transport is outstanding, I kind of doubt it would make a good plinker for practical reasons(durability, parts, reliability, etc.).

How much was the P22, Brett? I think the black was going for just over $300 when I was shopping them.

Don't feel bad for me though, I just counted!

I haven't shot a whole lot, so I still had 3,000 rounds. I found three boxes of 325 rounds at Walmart awhile back, but I passed them on to couple of my friends.

P.S. "1112" on my Remington box? That's my super efficient ammo dating system(November 2012). I put the month & the year on all ammo boxes I buy to help rotate my stock.

Nice vid. 👍 We unfortunately don't have range with that kind of clearance around where I live. Even the larger range has structures & stops to deflect any strays from landing in their neighbor's yards.
