How much was the P22, Brett? I think the black was going for just over $300 when I was shopping them.

The price at both Dick's and Academy was $349.95.

EDIT: The price above is for the 10/22 Takedown. The P22 was $369 I believe.

Right on. 👍

I wonder if it comes with the bag(probably). That is nice.......

Edit: Look, molle system!

If I could get another 10/22, it'd definitely be a stainless steel takedown. Mine's great, but stainless steel would help here in Louisiana and the ease of takedown is great! I paid $263 for my 10/22 carbine. I'd say it's worth the extra money. And someone mentioned a survival rifle? Is that a Henry survival rifle? I've never looked into them.

Yeah, I believe it is indeed the Henry brand. They advertise it as the Air Force, or pilot survival rifle(pic linked on the last page).

The rifle on the last page is the Henry AR-7. My friend has one. It's a neat rifle-- a little awkward to shoulder because the stock is HUGE compared to the actual gun. I actually want to get a 10/22 Takedown. I talked about it earlier in this thread, but then everything when bananas and I had to put my budding gun hobby on hold.

Nice vid. 👍 We unfortunately don't have range with that kind of clearance around where I live. Even the larger range has structures & stops to deflect any strays from landing in their neighbor's yards.

Thanks!

Yeah, I believe the range accommodates up to 600 yards. It's Angeles Shooting Range, sits just north of LA outskirts at the base of the Angeles mountain/Forrest range. Good fun.

Wow, I'd never have guessed that it was in Cali. I thought it was in 'Zona, or Colorado or something.

Oh my god dude, you can buy AR-7, free ship for $260 at Buds. While I wouldn't recommend this to someone as the go-to, or only .22LR rifle, that's not bad for what it is!

I'd rather avoid any kind of takedown if possible. I've always felt like they were simply a gimmick or less than up to the task. Only the 10/22 takedown seems like it would be interesting but again, I'm not sure I'd want to take the time to pack a takedown when I could take so many other pieces (bigger and smaller).
That said, I have faith in the 10/22 and so I'm confident it would do well as a takedown rifle... The AR7 on the other hand has never impressed me unless I remind myself of what it really is (and even then I've never had any real fun shooting one).

Like I said, I think with AR-7, it's small, and it's mostly for emergency. I wouldn't compare them to 10/22, not even the takedown model.

Between takedown & AR-7 though, I wouldn't know which model I'd pick. If it was durable & reliable, I'd go with AR-7, but I'm sure that's a big "if"!

I wonder if you can fire those without the barrel. SBR = sans barrel rifle.

I love the Papoose. I'd go all hipster and get one of those instead of a 10/22.

That looks clean. How much did everything cost? 👍

Won't disclose, but with all the doo-dads it's in the ballpark of most factory built Noveske or Knight's Armament guns. Luckily I was able to space everything out by building little by little as parts were ordered.

Thanks for the kind words guys, definitely happy with it. I think I might go with a lightweight profile barrel next time, I'm doing more off-hand shooting and every ounce counts.

I picked up a Walther P22 today. The picture makes the OD Green look like a much different color.

Nothing wrong with a Walther .... nice piece Brett. 👍

(REAL) Story time :

Besides today being an adventurous one, it was also a good one. The gun Gods were looking down on me or something. It was one of those being in the right place at the right time deals. On our way back to the house, the wife seen this garage sale taking place (uuuugh boy, garage sales ... hmmmm, oh well). She seen this nice looking hutch sitting out and wanted to stop and look, hmm, ok. While she was looking at it, I was kinda snooping around, not really looking, just basically waiting for her to get done. While I was in the garage, I happened to spy something, only a gun guy would know what is was just by looking at the tip of it. It was a barrel of a gun sticking out from under a bunch of stuff. I reached in, pulled it out and was like ... WTF DUDE !!! Immediately, I went over to the lady who was running this sale. I asked her if it was for sale.

"yes, it sure is"
"how much"
"I don't really know what my Mom is asking for it"
"is she here, can you ask her"

She goes over and gets her mother who was sitting down, we begin to talk.
Turns out, this gun was her husbands (he had passed away several years ago). It had been sitting in a closet covered up with some towels for years. She said she knew it was there and never really minded it being there. But the time had come to just start to get rid of some things. She admitted that she knew nothing of this gun (operation wise), saying it was one of his "man toys". We chatted a little more, then it got down to the big question .... how much ? She was clueless, she asked her daughter what she thought. Her daughter and her talked it over and responded by saying, "is $150.00 a fair price. I about 🤬 died when I heard this. Trying to act a bit reluctant, I finally said, "sure, I'll take it". Done deal, wrote her a check and off we go.

Here's what I fell into at this garage sale .... An SKS, with a grenade launcher attachment, still has the bayonet, field strap is missing, no big deal really. A sweet piece.

Oh yeah, the wife bought the hutch also .....

Also received the latest Sinclair accessories catalog this weekend ... "lots a goodies inside".

Wow that SKS looks just like mine did when the fiberglass stock was on it. Nice!

My buddy tried to sell me his SKS once, I think for $100. It was a cheap Chinese one though, and yours is so much nicer, not only is it outclassed, it doesn't even look like a same rifle.

Great find dude. 👍 How much wait for the background check? :P

Words cannot describe how jealous I am of your find. That looks to be in great shape.
Overall, it is in great shape, not perfect by any stretch of the matter, but still it was taken care of by the previous owner. It does have (4) noticeable nicks in the stock and back by the recoil pad it is showing some slight signs of wear. It also has a few scratches, but nothing major. A fine sanding down will clear these up quite nicely. The metal is in really nice shape. No scratches, nicks, scars or anything like that. The barrel is super clean inside as well. Overall, it probably could stand a re-blueing job, something I'll probably do when I get around to cleaning her up real good and refinishing the stock. It should look "premo" after a little bit of TLC.

I don't know what this previous owner oiled it down with, but man, this is some thick gooey stuff. It almost has the consistency of an 80w90 gear oil, but not that smell or color. It's sort of a bluish-greenish oil of some sort that has been applied to it. Whatever it is, it kept this piece clean for the time it had been stowed away.

You should have jumped on it for $100. It had to have been a Norinco that your buddy tried to sell you. Chinese or not, they are fun to shoot.

Thanks.
Background check ?!?!?! Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it came back squeaky clean. I had to wait for the woman to clear me before we finalized the deal. :sly:

And no, I'll not be hitting every garage sale I see from here on out trying to push my luck for more finds. I think my luck may have ran out by finding this one. But, 'ya never know what is out there either. :P I'm going to give it a quickie clean-up, re-oil it down with Hoppes and take it to the range this weekend to see her come back to life.

Should be fun.

So this particular SKS is a model M59/66A1 - numbers matching - manufactured in Zastava Serbia (Yugoslavia) - imported by C.A.I.

I went back and saw the SKS and instantly thought it was yugo, made my way to this page and got confirmation.
Though it's a good deal, good condition (apparently), a good round, accurate, etc etc... I never really liked the SKS. Too front heavy, the stock is also too short on the back to make a comfortable shouldered position for my arm.
Great rifle, but not the right one for me.
None the less,
Grats on the great deal!

I've always been under the impression that Norinco SKS's were great. The one I have is a Norinco and it is fantastic.

Thanks Kent. 👍

Kind of funny that you made mention of it being heavy and short stocked. My bud says exactly the same thing. He loves the SKS guns, but his build is not suited for this application. He's got those 10' long basketball arms and he just looks all scrunched up when shooting one. He's an Enfield or an M91/30 kind of a guy .... long gun with room for his long arms to work the piece comfortably.

Yes, I'll admit, this particular one is nose heavy. The grenade launcher would not have anything to do with it now ..... would it. 💡
Overall weight, I'd have to weigh this to see exactly where it comes in at, but really, this particular one does carry some weight with it in comparison to my other SKS.

When I get a chance tomorrow night, I'll post up my 30 round Russian Red SKS in comparison to this one. The differences are pretty amazing.

That is so cool, thanks for posting the pics. 👍

Look so tight with the scope & banana clip magazine, too!
