The Ambi lower I linked to you has several of the lower parts kit parts installed since it has a special design. If you email or call Rainier they can probably factor out the parts that are already on the lower out of the rest of the lower parts kit price.

I am definitely considering it. I have put the parts list together, minus the safety and trigger. It is going to be around $500 for that. Including the upper you linked, I am looking a hair over $1,500. Add in the BAD-ASS, which seems to be the most flexible option when it comes to lever choices, and the total is at $1,600. Not having decided on a trigger, that could really up the cost.

For a hundred more, minus undecided trigger cost, I can get a Tavor. I also want one of those. If I only had more money, then I could buy both.

What to do? What to do?

Great job making your constituents felons, CT.

Yup. You're going to pay extra for an ambidextrous AR. If you wanted to drop the cost a bit and still get a great gun you can grab this, a BCG, rear sight, Raptor charging handle, and handguard. That looks to be $800 for the upper.

I would figure out whether I wanted a Tavor or an AR first. See if any local shops have one in stock and see how you like it. I'm not aware of any issues they may have so I would do some independent research first.

Brett seemed to like different kind of guns. I'd go with AR for practical reasons, but I can see him going for something like Tavor. :D I hope you get one before the Federal Government ban all "assault weapons"!

I think this was posted in the "Guns" thread. While I'd obey such law(hope it'd never come to it), I'd TOTALLY side with the people opting to ignore such a pointless(maybe even illegal) law.

This reminded me of story about the NY Knicks guard, Raymond Failton(real name Felton) I heard today. He was cited for some gun law violation, but it was in New York. So far, it sounds like the gun was "unregistered".

I like all kinds of guns. I want to buy two AKs, one in 7.62x39mm and another in 5.45x39mm. I also somewhat want to pick up a VZ2008. I would like to pick up a SCAR 17 to have something in 7.62x51mm. The FN FAL also interests me for something in 7.62x51mm.

I am waffling back and forth between Tavor and AR-15.

You seem to like tasting the different flavors of guns.

I'd say that you can shoot an AR any day of the week at a range. If it's a really big itch to get an AR, the used market is also an option. Tavors are pretty hard to come by.

I would say for most practical uses here in the US the AR is unbeatable. I think the Tavor would be more interesting from a sampler's standpoint.

Also keep in mind that you should still research potential issues with the gun. It's a pretty new design.

I am leaning more towards the Tavor because if I were to get an AR-15, then I think I would rather just buy a Knight's. Yes, the prices are high and quick looks online seems to make finding one difficult, but it has all of the features I would want in an AR.

Yes, I do. However, the expenses of buying multiple weapons makes it a tough thing to do.

This is at least a good chunk of the reasoning behind the Tavor. I have shot an AUG and really liked the balance that a bullpup offers with all of the weight at the shoulder.

Between MAC, hickok, and various written reviews, everything has been of high praise with the Tavor, except for the heavyish trigger. Both Geissele and Timney are coming out with triggers for the Tavor and very early reviews of those have been positive.

On a different note, I ordered three more magazines for my Walther PPQ. These three will be the first three I have bought that are 17 rounders instead of 15 rounds.

You gotta like the selection of Tavor here, if you can afford it. Everyone either have, or know someone who have ARs, but Tavor is so rare for being such a cool gun. Regardless of which way you decide to go, I wish you luck Brett. đź‘Ť

This page has pretty well talked me into the Tavor. Before I do anything, I need to call a couple LGSs and see which has the cheapest transfer fee.

Have you considered the Steyr AUG A3?
I'll spare you the details about how reliable, accurate and over-engineered it is because everybody knows that anyway. :D

I was already a little more enamored with the Tavor. I am now more in favor of the Tavor over the Steyr after seeing that the Steyr is more expensive.

Just don't shoot a tavor with a suppressor unless you want lead and powder sprayed into your face and eyes.

I agree with @Omnis I've heard that Tavors and suppressors don't mix.

Geissele is set to come out with an improved trigger. It's about $150 more than a comparable AR trigger.

*Really* tempted to turn a rifle into a short handy SHTF backup rifle using the KISS principle, which basically means keep it simple stupid, so no optical sights, irons only, keeping weight and especially size down so it can be carried alongside the main firearm. (On the backpack)

Planning on cutting the barrel back to 17'', shortening the sight radius down to approx 15''. Now the problem is that the shorter the sight radius gets the more impact little aiming errors make.

*sigh*, I wish I knew how much accuracy I lose before cutting the barrel, maybe I hardly notice it and its all good, maybe I can't hit anything past 60yds and I regret it big time. :indiff:

Has anyone here experience with shooting rifles with really short sight raduis.....radusi? Radiusses?

Sounds like a survival-scout rifle!
Thats the plan! In fact, I want a compact-as-can-be rifle as backup gun to my main SHTF rifle. It needs to fit on my backpack without weighing me down or getting caught in heavy brush.

Yes, thats my current excuse for that project.

@Pako
A friend of mine built his own indoor range, I had no idea how complex that is, especially the ventilation system. Wow.

 Sounds like a fun project, but does this mean your compact shotgun's gonna lose the spot on your pack? :D

Seriously though, custom survival rifle sounds awesome.

Hm.
......do you think I should install shoulder straps on my gun safe? đź’ˇ :scared:

If I told you that I'm approaching this project very non-tactically would you still find it awesome? :P
The only two tacticool things are going to be a green Hogue synthetic stock and a shell holder, its basically gonna be a VERY short rifle with peep sights with an anti-corrosion finish that can be easily repaired. (I'm thinking of cheap car spray paint and a very simple brown/tan/black camo stripe pattern)
Thats it. No fore grips, no drum magazines, no cup holders, just a sleek and simple rugged carbine.

Something like this minus the scope. (Note the small ghost ring sight on the rear of the receiver)

Looks like AR/K-47.

Love AK's, but I can't believe how clumsy it is to mount optics on (most of)these rifles, even today.
