Velocity is king with the terminal balistics world. Hydrostatic Shock rules the hunting lifestyle when it comes to medium size game. Bipeds, too.
A couple of weeks ago I recovered a pure lead .69 conical muzzle loader bullet from the dirt bullet catch, it mushroomed to 1.2''. I think that would have done massive damage and thats with only a velocity of 850 fps. Velocity IS king if your only bullet choice is FMJ. BULLET DESIGN is king.

If an ammo ban based on caliber comes to pass then there are serious problems with the minds of the people being elected to office today. The former General knows enough about this stuff to know that his pandering is ridiculous. I can't imagine what he stands to gain from helping something like this to happen.

Quick glance at this is all anyone needs.

He's more of a politician than a soldier these days sadly.

Sometimes SIZE is king too. Some of the more common hunting rounds like .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield or .300 Win Mag are a lot more devastating than .223 Remington at equal distances. Even in pistol rounds, .45ACP causes more damage than 9mm Luger. In order for small projectiles to be as effective, you gotta up the speed.

I still like the idea of having a larger projectile though. Then I'm not so dependent on expansion.

Prominent rifle manufacturer killed in mysterious car crash days after posting psych drug link to school shooters

John Noveske is one of the most celebrated battle rifle manufacturers in America. His rifles, found at www.NoveskeRifleworks.com are widely recognized as some of the finest pieces of American-made hardware ever created. (I own one of his rifles, and it's a masterpiece of a machine that just keeps on running.) Sadly, John Noveske was killed in a mysterious car crash just a few days ago, on January 4, 2013.

According to the Outdoor Wire, his car "traveled across the oncoming lane onto the dirt highway shoulder until it struck two large boulders. The vehicle rolled and Mr. Noveske was ejected."

But barely a week before this incident, John Noveske posted a lengthy, detailed post on Facebook that listed all the school shootings tied to psychiatric drugs. At the end of the post, he asked, "What drugs was Adam Peter Lanza on?"

That was the last post he ever made. (Full text below.)

Mysterious death during gun control debate raises questions
John Noveske wasn't the first prominent gun rights supporter to be killed in the last few days. Keith Ratliff, the creator of a super-popular YouTube channel featuring videos of exotic weapons, was also recently found dead.

The Daily Mail reports that Ratliff was "discovered on a rural road in Carnesville, Georgia. Ratliff had a single gunshot wound the head and police are treating his death as a homicide."

Someone murdered Ratliff, in other words, and it had to be someone with the ability to get close enough to Ratliff to take him out without warning.

Beyond these two shootings, the widely-discredited CNN journalist Piers Morgan, wanted for questioning in Britain's Daily Mirror phone hacking scandal, invited guests onto his show who threatened Alex Jones' children and laughed about the idea of Piers Morgan shooting Alex Jones with an AR-15.

That astonishing video interview is available at:
www.infowars.com/veiled-threat-piers-morgan-guest-says-shoot-alex-jon...

Steve Quayle, creator of SteveQuayle.com, says "the red list is on!" This refers to the so-called "red list" -- a secret kill list of Americans authorized by Obama and designed to be invoked immediately before an attempted radical leftist takeover of the nation. In support of this theory, Obama himself actually signed into law the NDAA which authorizes secret assassinations of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil.

Instead of the red list being "conspiracy theory," it appears to be a key component of Obama's domestic policy.

Beyond coincidence: Pieces of the puzzle rapidly coming together
Sure, a car crash involving John Noveske could be a coincidence. It could also be a coincidence that no video footage has been released from Sandy Hook showing Adam Lanza carrying any rifle whatsoever.

It might also be a coincidence that Dianne Feinstein just happened to have her detailed gun confiscation bill ready to release immediately following the Sandy Hook shooting.

It might also be a total coincidence that according to Google.com, the United Way Sandy Hook donation support page was created on December 11, 2012 -- a full three days before the shooting took place.

It could also be a total coincidence that NBC News reported Adam Lanza's AR-15 rifle was left in his car and was never used in the shooting at all.

I suppose it could be a coincidence that Bank of America slammed home an economic embargo against an online gun parts retailer in the days following the Sandy Hook shooting.

And it could be coincidence that Facebook suspended or shut down the accounts of hundreds of prominent people who advocated the Second Amendment, including our account here at Natural News.

And finally, it could be a total coincidence that police radio recordings seem to indicate there were multiple shooters involved in Sandy Hook.

But what are the odds of ALL of these coincidences existing simultaneously? Those odds are virtually zero.

Something's fishy with all this. It's becoming increasingly apparent that an order has come down from the very top to destroy, silence, threaten or execute true American patriots. Steve Quayle has long predicted this would be the very first step before foreign troops are unleashed on American soil to take over the country and deliver it, just as Obama has always planned, into the hands of the globalist crime syndicate.

It all sounds outrageous, I admit, and I'm not even sure what to believe myself. But it's becoming more difficult by the day to deny actual events happening right before our eyes. Believe what you will, but don't be surprised if people like Steve Quayle and Alex Jones were right all along. If we see any more mysterious deaths of prominent gun advocates, it going to raise huge red flags across the patriot community.

Read John Noveske's last Facebook post
This is the last post John Noveske made on his Facebook page before he was killed:

Eric Harris age 17 (first on Zoloft then Luvox) and Dylan Klebold aged 18 (Columbine school shooting in Littleton, Colorado), killed 12 students and 1 teacher, and wounded 23 others, before killing themselves. Klebold's medical records have never been made available to the public.

Jeff Weise, age 16, had been prescribed 60 mg/day of Prozac (three times the average starting dose for adults!) when he shot his grandfather, his grandfather's girlfriend and many fellow students at Red Lake, Minnesota. He then shot himself. 10 dead, 12 wounded.

Cory Baadsgaard, age 16, Wahluke (Washington state) High School, was on Paxil (which caused him to have hallucinations) when he took a rifle to his high school and held 23 classmates hostage. He has no memory of the event.

Jeff Franklin (Prozac and Ritalin), Huntsville, AL, killed his parents as they came home from work using a sledge hammer, hatchet, butcher knife and mechanic's file, then attacked his younger brothers and sister.

Neal Furrow (Prozac) in LA Jewish school shooting reported to have been court-ordered to be on Prozac along with several other medications.

Kevin Rider, age 14, was withdrawing from Prozac when he died from a gunshot wound to his head. Initially it was ruled a suicide, but two years later, the investigation into his death was opened as a possible homicide. The prime suspect, also age 14, had been taking Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants.

Alex Kim, age 13, hung himself shortly after his Lexapro prescription had been doubled.

Diane Routhier was prescribed Welbutrin for gallstone problems. Six days later, after suffering many adverse effects of the drug, she shot herself.

Billy Willkomm, an accomplished wrestler and a University of Florida student, was prescribed Prozac at the age of 17. His family found him dead of suicide – hanging from a tall ladder at the family's Gulf Shore Boulevard home in July 2002.

Kara Jaye Anne Fuller-Otter, age 12, was on Paxil when she hung herself from a hook in her closet. Kara's parents said ".... the damn doctor wouldn't take her off it and I asked him to when we went in on the second visit. I told him I thought she was having some sort of reaction to Paxil...")

Gareth Christian, Vancouver, age 18, was on Paxil when he committed suicide in 2002,
(Gareth's father could not accept his son's death and killed himself.)

Julie Woodward, age 17, was on Zoloft when she hung herself in her family's detached garage.

Kurt Danysh, age 18, and on Prozac, killed his father with a shotgun. He is now behind prison bars, and writes letters, trying to warn the world that SSRI drugs can kill.

Woody ____, age 37, committed suicide while in his 5th week of taking Zoloft. Shortly before his death his physician suggested doubling the dose of the drug. He had seen his physician only for insomnia. He had never been depressed, nor did he have any history of any mental illness symptoms.

A boy from Houston, age 10, shot and killed his father after his Prozac dosage was increased.

Hammad Memon, age 15, shot and killed a fellow middle school student. He had been diagnosed with ADHD and depression and was taking Zoloft and "other drugs for the conditions."

Matti Saari, a 22-year-old culinary student, shot and killed 9 students and a teacher, and wounded another student, before killing himself. Saari was taking an SSRI and a benzodiazapine.

Steven Kazmierczak, age 27, shot and killed five people and wounded 21 others before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University auditorium. According to his girlfriend, he had recently been taking Prozac, Xanax and Ambien. Toxicology results showed that he still had trace amounts of Xanax in his system.

Finnish gunman Pekka-Eric Auvinen, age 18, had been taking antidepressants before he killed eight people and wounded a dozen more at Jokela High School – then he committed suicide.
Asa Coon from Cleveland, age 14, shot and wounded four before taking his own life. Court records show Coon was on Trazodone.

Jon Romano, age 16, on medication for depression, fired a shotgun at a teacher in his
New York high school.

Missing from list... 3 of 4 known to have taken these same meds....

What drugs was Jared Lee Loughner on, age 21...... killed 6 people and injuring 14 others in Tuscon, Az

What drugs was James Eagan Holmes on, age 24..... killed 12 people and injuring 59 others in Aurora Colorado

What drugs was Jacob Tyler Roberts on, age 22, killed 2 injured 1, Clackamas Or

What drugs was Adam Peter Lanza on, age 20, Killed 26 and wounded 2 in Newtown Ct
Roberts is the only one that I haven't heard about being on drugs of some kind.

I was just sad that John Noveske died. He was truly an expert in his field and a leader for the community. I donated to the charity fund for his wife and kids that he left behind. 36 is too young.

Geissele is making a trigger in his honor. 101 will be made, 100 of which will be sold for $200 with all of the proceeds going to the Noveske family. A wonderful gesture by Bill Geissele.

I'll read over those details later.

It's a lot to take in. I love the fact that the firearm community is coming together like there are. Like the items you posted and how you donated to a great cause. Just one word... awesome. :)

I smell rebellion if they start banning everything.

At the ballot box? You betcha...

"If", and that's a BIG "IF", the federal gov't starts to confiscate weapons via house-to-house 2a no-knock raids; then we'll have a big mess. Sure, a few gun owners will make it difficult for LEOs but the psychological effect of a few shootouts will be huge. LEOs will be under an enormous amount of stress as they will not know if the homeowner is going to shoot the 1st guy busting thru the door or not. What I see happening, and what has happened in SWAT raids, is a lot of innocent people getting shot b/c of human error.

...that'll go over well.

As much as the media likes painting gun owners as wackos, they absolutely adore police brutality stories. A couple houses where wives & children are shot b/c the SWAT team made a mistake will be all over the news.

Then the **** will hit the fan...hard. People don't really trust gov't now, imagine what they'll think when families are being shot during gun confiscation raids. Retaliation against our increasingly militarized police force going wayyyy too far is my biggest fear.

Gun owning John Q. Public isn't going to fire the 1st shot. It'll be LEO of some sort and rest assured, gun owning John Q. Public will fire back...and his family...and his coworkers...and his neighbors.

Picked up a bunch of ammo for the rifle and a box of 9mm for the handgun I'll be picking up in 30 days.
:odd:

Which manufacture AR was it again? You got Sig 9mm, right? I can't remember which AR you ordered(it was long time ago lol).

Congratulations man! 👍

And yes, I've contacted everyone under the sun. We're going thru a battle in Illinois over CCW as well as draconian weapon bans, registration schemes, and an attack on indoor/outdoor ranges. Chicago politicians really hate citizens being able to own weapons...unless they work on their own security force or are politicians themselves.

But back to guns.

Anyone use try this ammo and have a range report;

http://hprammo.com

Thinking about ordering a few boxes (250rds) from Cabela's. Seems reasonably priced for JHPs ($36 for for a box of 50). The usual suspects (Federal HST, Gold Dot, etc.) are all out of stock at my local places...in 230gr anyway. Shelves are full of 165/185gr 45ACP and for a good reason.

Picked up a bulk pack (loose) of Remington UMC though, $204 for a box of 500 in today's frenzy is a helluva deal. May have to get into reloading but I have a feeling primers, brass, and bullets are in a short supply and will probably take even longer to fill shelves. Aside from the pallet of UMC, that shop isn't selling range ammo to non-range users. The other shooting gallery I frequent isn't selling any ammo OTC unless you're shooting it downrange.

Anyone see the online prices for .556? My gawd...$1 round (or thereabouts) for crap tracer? Really is a sellers market right now.

That's what caught my attention with HPR; reasonably priced, in-stock (gotta order in-store at Cabela's though...Illinois thing), and seems like it'll do the job quite well. HPR uses Hornady bullets, which my Wilson gobbled up with aplomb, and isn't advertising some whiz-bang velocities like Double Tap.

I do remember you paying tad over $909, too. sorry my man. :P

I like the hand guard. I've wanted the Magpul MOE style ARs for awhile before I bought my Bushmaster, but now I really like hand guards with just functional rail system, too. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get one like you got on yours down the line. 👍

Regarding the flip-up sights, I have the Magpul rear on mine. Here's a interesting comparo Z-Man found awhile back. I've shot my rifle just once so far. I'm supposed to go shooting tomorrow, make sure my flip-up's good & also sight in a cheap freebie scope I got. I'll try to take some pics to post on here.

Ever since switching to .45, I haven't invested in hollow points. I think I do have a few different types of them on hand, but not like when I had the 9mm, and variety of different hollow points in the inventory. Ones I keep my gun(1911) loaded with are some kind of Hornady hollow points.

I just figured, with .45s, even FMJ would be capable of serious damage?

I hear ya. This was another nice thing about the MOE Bushmaster. It came with the gun! :embarrassed:

That reminds me, Michael, did you get to test out your Redfield scope yet? AR scope should be my next purchase.

I use both, but I don't typically shoot HP at the range except to get a feel for them and how they cycle. I keep HP in them at home, but I only keep one box around for each gun, the rest is all FMJ or plinking ammo for the range.

Modern jacketed hollow points are far more effective than FMJ's in all calibers. I see no reason to use FMJ for defensive use in a handgun (if the gun can cycle it).

Remember when you're talking about handguns that the difference in terminal ballistic performance between a 9mm or .45 is extremely small when viewed on the grand scheme of things. When we're dealing with guns that are so woefully underpowered compared to rifles, we need to look into shot placement and repeated hits more than ever.

Oh, same here. Only time I'd shoot HPs at range's to test them out, see if the gun has any feeding problems. Something I doubt Glock 9mms would ever experience.

Ah. Perhaps people tend to oversell the effectiveness of .45 Auto? As I said, I already load HPs in my 1911 for defensive purposes. Thanks for the input. 👍

Yep, works as designed! A lot of my friends also bought scopes from Redfield and they're super happy with them, a few of them put 2-7x33 and 3-9x40 accu range on their Ruger Scout - neat combination. 👍

I put a yellow Leupold alumina filter on my RF 2-7x33 (yep, the scope bell reticle thread on the Redfield is the same as the Leupold so all Leupold filters fit), it increases contrast and sharpens dark contours, works great in dull and monochrome winter days.
It completely eliminates the blue mist when looking at distant objects during winter.

I think it would be perfect on your AR10. :dopey:

Boy, while I'm very happy to hear about the Redfield scopes, I'm not sure if I'm keeping the AR10. That thing jams a lot. Problem is, I've yet to clean the thing, and the lube jobs been spotty at best. On top of everything, I've been shooting the Russian stuff first. 100% my fault. I really see the importance of the ramps Z-Man's been bringing up, too. All of the jams, I could see the bullet struggling to get up there, onto the chamber. One thing for sure, I'm getting really good at clearing them, or working them into the chamber.

Second problem. I took it out just for the second time today, and I'm having hell of a time sighting the rifle in. It doesn't help that I suck at it anyway. I don't like the balance of this gun either.

I don't know, I probably just needs to learn how to shoot AR10. Orrrr..... maybe I should sell it while the price is high, get me a Gunsite Scout....... we'll see. ;)

I might try one of those laser bore sighters after all, like the one David just ordered. That might help me, if I decided to keep the rifle & invest in a scope. Nice list of accessories there btw David. 👍 Let us have a report on the Sightmark red dot sight when you get that working for ya. :)

Finally, our "shooting day" today:

Dairy Queen before heading home has become a tradition. Why DQ? One of the only two eatery in this middle-of-nowhere.

Problems with sighting in? Whats exactly the problem?
Have you tried the see-through-the-bore trick yet? Do it properly at 50yds and you should be close to center, do some fine adjustments and then move to 100yds.
Really, that simple method works better than any laser bore sighter.

Remember, when the rifle is shooting to the right you have to move your FRONT sight to the right or your rear sight to the LEFT.
If you mix that up at the range it leads to MAJOR confusion. Been there, done that, thats why I write down my adjustments, scope and open sights. :scared:

Sorry to hear the rifle is jamming, I have next to zero experience with AR10's, can't help.
But if your gun has feeding problems / troubles to get the bullets from the mag into the chamber it might have something to do with the el cheapo steel cases.
Steel creates more friction than brass, the gun has a harder time to feed and extract. Does it jam with brass ammo too?

Try some other lube as well, its a DI gun so it craps where it eats, you don't want powder residue-lube gunk build up in or around the bolt, that slows down the bolt and can lead to FTFs.

Great tips man, thank you! On the bore sighting, I think I will still go with the laser, because I don't think I have a way to secure the rifle from moving.

On the jam, I think you are onto something with the steel casing. Although I'm still convinced that the main causes here are me not lubing the gun(I know Z-Man would slap me for this lol), also not having cleaned it, steel casing certainly could be contributing to the problem, on top of leaving more residue. :ouch:

I thought about it a bit today, and I think I should keep the rifle. Although NRA sounds confident that there isn't realistic chance for assault weapons ban, at least for now, you never just never know. And I've been an AR fanboy since I was a kid. My long term plan's always been to purchase a bolt-action down the line anyway!

P.S. I heard a whole new term for high capacity magazines yesterday: Assault Magazines. They may be calling those things murder magazines, or public shooting magazines by this time next year.

I shop ammo at Walmart, and the Russian ammo they carry are Tula. Tula's $8.97 for a box. Cheapest brass they carry is Federal, they go for $16.99. Both of those can be scarce, and when they are gone, Winchester, Remington goes for around $20.

Ammo I shot yesterday was Wolf I got online. I split a case of 500 with another guy. His first shot was a dud(lol). All mine shot fine yesterday.

P.S. When I had my bullet-proof reliable Glock 17, which ate anything up, there was one misfire: A dead Federal bullet.

Yesterday, I was trying to catch my old Kimber 1911 magazine in a FTE(could mags cause that? I don't even know), and while there was one misfire, it wasn't the 1911 or the mag, it was another Federal dead bullet! Bad primer job, right?

I don't know if this is a pattern or what, but these are the only two dead center-fire bullet I can remember, and they were both Federals. I'm still gonna buy them, because they are affordable, but it makes you wonder. :D

My long term plan's always been to purchase a bolt-action down the line anyway!
Good idea, semi automatics are definitely the way to go but a little indestructible dead-reliable bolt action rifle is hard to beat and a must have.

If the ten round magazine of the Ruger Scout isn't vital to you you can always get an excellent Marlin XL7 for whooping 360 bucks! Add a scope from Redfield and you have a potent reliable rifle for little more than 500 bucks. :dopey:

OR you could simply get a milsurp rifle.
