Real vs virtual racing in the making

Correct, it is only you against the iOpener Enabled live cars. In this race there were only two, so it was a bit of an empty grid. RTR is still beta and I expect it will be a while before we can race a full grid, but it will always be only you as an online driver against the live drivers.
Thanks

That's pejfect!

Had issues with my steering wheel, still need to post the issue, not clear where the issue came from, went to GTR Evolution and it continued.

Had fun in both races, the first a lot of issue with steering wheel, but still fun.
Second race a lot faster, but still a few issues and not sufficiently prepared.

I agree about the ABS, second race I left it on.
Yesterday evening I went for Hotlapping on Pro, improved time in a major way.

Still believe:
1) There is some work on the Beta, but that is a Beta
2) When integrated in the soft you want (GTR, GT5, F3, rF2, ...) I still think this gives a unique view on the race, for racesim lovers certainly worth it.

I just reserved some places. I hope to join this time.

I will have to un-dust my racepod though :(

I still have to buy a steering wheel/pedals. Get my broken motherboard switched for a new one, make a kind off cockpit.

It seems that I still have to wait before I can start using RTR.

Looks like a logistics nightmare to me. I don’t know how in the world you can get a guy who doesn’t know that you exist to defend against you when your putting the slide job on them. It looks like a waste of time in the real time one on one. It would be cool to get the ghost and go after them if you could get the same acceleration, breaking, G loading and aero.

Well this is one of the question asked by Bram in the R-T-R beta develop thread.

There are two solutions

  1. if you block a real car ingame with your virtual car, the real car instantly and temporary turns invidible, driving through your virtual car. Once this real car, ingame, is in front of you, it turns back to a solid graphics car.
  2. At the moment a real car ingame is about to overtake your car, the AI of the game's software takes over to make a clean pass. Once the car has overtaken you, the control of the real car ingame is back in hands of the real race car driver.
What you said about the ghost car is already part of this technology. You can start a recorded championship and start racing them offline which means that real race cars, ingame, will be solid ghost cars.

Just did 15 laps. Due to the lack of cars on track, the beta feels like you're hotlapping. But you can run into the real cars. I did when I was looking what time it was.

The technology is there. I hope the can jump out of beta testing at some time.

Edit my fastest lap was a 1.47....

I did today's race. Three live cars were participating, but one never left the grid and another only left the pit after many laps. I raced all 32 laps, which is a lot for me, still shaken-up a bit. In the end I won from the live cars (lapping the first one twice, which is a bit odd).
My best lap time was 1:43.169. :)

Denur, you should consider making a career switch. Good one.

The Marcos is much more fun to drive than the Seat Leon diesel. But that is my opinion of course.

Haha, not really Marco. My fastest lap is still a few seconds off the pace. Yes, I did take the lead after the first corner, only to lose it when I had to pit in. When the race finished, all of a sudden I had a two lap lead, but never overtook any of the cars again. Seems to be a glitch in the game. ;)

You could mention this glitch to Bram. You are beta testing, no?

Yes, I gave my feedback, others have already mentioned similar results though.

EDIT> Here are the complete results for yesterday's race. It looks like I did lap the other cars after all. :D

Looking at the difference in best times (1'40 - 1'54) there is fun for a wide field of drivers. Due to limited preparation, I chose in the end to go for semi-pro with best of 1'47.3XX. Did not have the feeling to be in the car/race yet.

The results above confirm my feeling:
Van Der Silk, put in some fast laps, but overall did not do well on end time, well losing a wheel did not help.

Mouritz more regular, were not very fast overall.

Myself, I was quite slow. Still a believer of the concept that this can be a whole new way to follow some races.

I don't quite understand how the pitting works in the game. I go in the pits, choose confirm in the pits menu and that's it. Car just stays in the pits and I can't leave. I'll have to press the escape button and choose this middle option(can't remember at the moment exactly what it was), then I can leave, but in this case, I leave the pits with the same worn tires I came in.

That seems to be the confusing issue this weekend. It is work in progress, hopefully Bram can enlighten us on the RTR forum (more people have asked questions about it overthere).
