My apologies to all of you experienced gt4 and forum folks. But I have a question that may seem rather naive. The Gran Turismo Championship race says that you must win all races in both the Beginner and Professional events. I have also read the same thing elsewhere. I'm assuming that 'events' and 'halls' basically means the same thing. I've won all the races in those two halls and I'm still not being allowed to race the Gran Turismo Championship. What am I doing wrong?

Do you need a certain percentage done? I know (for instance) that to start doing enduros you need 25% of the game finished.

This is the most widely asked question around this forum. Believe me, you aren't the first person to claim having completed everything and to find out that something is missing.

The rude truth is, you haven't won all races. Did you do the championships as series or as individual races? The series must be won too. Is there one bronze trophy lurking in some dark corner? They look suspiciously like golden ones.

I apologize if I sound unfriendly, that was not my intention but the case is that you've missed something. Go ahead, find it out, clean it up and then proceed. 👍

As Greycap said, this is the most commonly asked question on this forum (with the second most common probably being, "how do I win the GTWC now that I can enter it?"). It is considered good manners to search the forums (seach box is in the upper right corner) before asking; there is a lot of information here and this topic in particular has been discussed many times and in great detail.

But to recap: doublecheck all your trophies because it is very very easy to mistake a bronze for a gold. Also, make sure you did the championship series (Tuning Car Grand Prix, World Classic Car Series and World Compact Car Race) as championship series and not as individual races. If you go to for instance the Tuning Car Grand Prix the first icon, the shield with the GT logo and checkered flags, should also have a gold trophy under it. If not, simply click on it to enter it as a series.

A Beginners Event is a race located in the Beginner's Hall and similarly for Professional events and halls. So no, events and halls aren't the same thing; a hall is a sort of container for events.
