I have only done about 10 or so races and the verdict is in....I suck at this event!
Best first lap: 1:38.4xx
Best lap: 1:31.7xx
Best race time: 4:43.8xx
I just can't run consistent laps - off track and penalties.
I also hate that people drive everywhere but on the track. Then when they do return to the track, they usually hit me and I get the penalty.
I also hate the low payout (at the time) for winning a race.
Therefore I will not be doing 600 races like I did in the Megane event.
Best of luck to everyone else. I will try a few races now and then and hope to race against you guys at some point.
Also, the best lap I saw in my few races was a low 1:30 by two people.

That's not a bad run TBH, plenty good enough to win a lot of races :) I agree that consistency is more difficult here a small mistake onto those long flat out stretches cost loads of time, T2 seem to be my biggest culprit!

@SCClockDr great run, it looked pretty familiar, I raced with a fair few of those guys last night ;)

I approach the sweepers differently, taking more curb particularly at T5 and T6. Interesting take on the start as well!

I have been holding revs high in second then lots of wheel spin and smoke :D

I have toying with the idea of trying TCS1 start then switching it off down the following straight, pretty sure I will forget half the time especially in the pack :lol:

Why ABS2, What do you feel that gives you over ABS1?

Mixed bag last night for me, my fast car was way to loose online and struggled with traction, just couldn't get under the 1:32 barrier, also struggled getting penalties when using it :embarrassed:

Fair few people at around my pace which lead to some good battles :) Not that fussed about winning if the racing is good...

...Why ABS2, What do you feel that gives you over ABS1? ...
I tune for lots of brake usually 6-10 to start after much running the Mégane QM I tried ABS 2 and found the feel to be a touch better. Watch my brake signal in the video, I rarely use 100% I get good whoa up with 60% & less. 100% is reserved for when I mess up and am tardy on the binders or when whacked in the rear. Reliably keeps me off the T1 & T2 walls.

I'm pretty much done with the car at this point, just need to drive better. My goal is a mid 4:40 race from 4th or better start in a field of 8 or more. That means a 1:37 first and 1:31's for 2 & 3. I've run a few high 1:31's, never a 1:37 start. Best there was a few 1:38.0##'s not many though.

What I like best about my tune is the experience of a wide runner joining the track beside me or a bit behind and pulling out to a 1/2 car lead early and then me just driving by mid straight and seeing tarmac in the mirror between me and them by my brake point. The second high is my tune's ability to out-brake nearly everyone. This tune likes throttle even when braking through the esses, it keeps the drift pointed down range and reduces wheel spin when I indeed exit & mash it.

I intend to publish the tune with my next video, please stay tuned.

Thanks for the explanation I shall look forward to the next video! Out of interest what capture gear do you use?

Some times its the little things that make a difference, like the diff... Spent half hour testing stuff off line purely for controlled environment. The result is a new diff, more inline with what you guys are running :embarrassed: 19/35/5 I can feel the wheels hunt about and do strange things if I plant the throttle in some corners but over all an improvement.

Can be seen in my online times two, running 1:31.5xx clean laps with a best of 1:31.478 :D Not had a clean first run yet :(

FYI 11 car grid pays 557.00cr and a full 16 car grid pays 668,400cr still buzzing from the 16 car race :D

Confirms my calculations based on other 1st finishes. I can calculate/extrapolate if I have 2 finishes in the same position for sequential field counts. (3 of 9 & 3 of 10 etc.)

Here is my latest QM Credits Chart it is available to view and share comments ie. more info.

To send me result info click on the cell you have info for and leave a comment (Credits paid out). That way the finish and # of participants are specified by the cell chosen.

Thanks in advance!:)

New PB all round from a pole to finish race :D

Lap 1 = 1:37.774
Lap 2 = 1:31.453
Lap 3 = 1:31.713 :(
Total time 4:40.939

Saved the replay of that one :D I might look into getting a video capture setup ;)

Tried playing with rear wing, no noticeable benefit for me to go lower downforce.

Not sure what to do now other than race the car...

Well, I was happy to have my personal best total time and first lap, only to realize the very next race Rajhcore has his car sorted out now very well.

First lap 1:38.4, best lap 1:32.0xx and total time of 4:43.1xx finally getting a little better with TC 0.

Then Rajhcore raced with a first lap of 1:36.4xx, best lap of 1:30.4xx and total time of 4:38.95x.

Alien Bass-Tard!

I also was racing with 4 guys, winning handily and was maxed out, credit wise, so race three I let them all go by since they had been racing me clean. Then when the room filled up, the very same guys started banging, one even pushed me into the sand trap, TWICE, so no accident...strange, or normal?

I attribute it to just being more aggressive when more is on the line? Where I'm in there trying to get credits while seeing how fast I can get my car?

You'll get there matey, it's only a matter of time!

A 4:39 run would be super nice as would a 1:30.9xx race lap, achieved off line but I always seem to be half a second or so slower when racing :(

I decided to give this event another try and the results were a lot better.
I won 5 of 8 races. Four of the wins came from a top 3 grid starting position.The best race win was the last one when i started from the 16th grid position in a full field.
The other 3 races, I started near the rear of full fields and was in the top 5 (including penalties) on the last lap only to be run off the track each time by some jerk that had it out for me.
Fastest race was 4:42.527 with lap times of 1:38.771, 1:31.962 and 1:31.794. The last lap included two wheeling around turn 2 and running wide in turn 5. Would have been close to a 1:30.xxx lap if it was clean.
Payouts for winning the race:
13 car field - 601,560
14 car field - 623,840
16 car field - 668,400
I am glad they increased the amounts.
I am using @Aussie_HSV tune and @SCClockDr advice of using ABS 2.
@graveltrap - Are you going to post your current tune?
Due to the good results today, I finally painted the car. Fluorescent orange should make it a little faster.

Tune

Changes listed in the update section but they are as follows

Rear ride height 57
Brake Balance 6/8
Diff 19/35/5

This is very much to my taste and how I get around the track so it's probably not much cop for anyone else :lol:

I did notice I'm not making as much smoke now and I drive the car through The sweepers rather than slide it which I think is where the time came from...possibly...maybe!

Messing with a flipped gearbox again, but no great gains to be had :(

[edit]
Gear usage guide was of help last time so...

T1 = 3rd
T2 = 2nd
T3 = 2nd
T4 = 4th
I up shift on the short straight between T4 and T5 to 5th for a short time...
T5= 4th
T6 = 4th up shift to 5th happens on the curb near corner apex
T7 = 5th
T8 = 4th

All great info guys!

Those are the gears I'm in as well @graveltrap, I find a BIG difference in lap times based on sliding. Once you slide it seems to cost a ton of time, even though it might not feel slower. But wheelspin doesn't cost as much time as it feels like it should?

All about getting used to it and laying down some seriously fast times.

I'm pretty happy where I'm at with the car and I feel competitive with all but the aliens.

My current set up is a little different from my original posting. I'll update it in my next post later tonight or tomorrow.

@wedjim

Struggled to get your transmission set up, had to go to max speed 112 with default FD to make them happen.

Tried the car in free run, great low speed steering in the tight corners, but it was way to eager to slide in T4, T5,T6 and T7, which made it a little inconsistent for me, I had to be very precise with steering, just a little bit of extra lock would see outside tyres turning red and a a loss of time (me and the wheel of course).

I would have to increase rear downforce to try and control this a bit better...

Mid 1:31s offline so with my .5 loss in a race high 1:31's low 1:32 second laps.

Disregard I had racing medium on the rear of the car :lol: :embarrassed: My bad! leaving all that here for reference to what RM does, it was a plan to test it anyway and something I need to try on my car!

Right sacked the tyre fitter and got a fresh set of RS fitted car will report back at some point!

Update:

Car feels very similar in performance to mine, With the right tyres I was running 1:31.1 to .3 offline will race it later...Nothing bad it ticks all the boxes :) going to try you gearbox in my car ;)

Not sure what is up with me this morning as I left one of @SCClockDr crate motors in the car, I'd say it has a slight edge for me over a single lap, I couldn't beat that ghost with manifold installed and further limiting, in a race I'm not sure you would notice!

Transmission setup depends on what car engine mod/performance. That's why do the engine mod first, then the transmisson gear ratio will suit to the engine mod on the default. Lose/tight ratio depends on your car power/weight/skill/track. :cheers:

My goal in this gearbox was reduced wheelspin in 2nd and 3rd, with optimized pull in 4 thru 6. 5 gets tweaked for sweepers to preference. This setup also allows for more adjustments in nearly every gear.

Trying not to be cornered into a max 6th, minimum 1st, 1 final drive and so on.

I've actually tweaked it more since posting it, lol. Update soon.

I know you guys will do the same?

I have done two more sessions of this event. Last night I took my freshly painted car with @graveltrap tune (less body rigidity)for a run. Major server problems. After many failed connections, I was finally able to race. Started 8th and was in the lead by turn 3. Last turn of the lap and...disconnect.
It took many attempts to get into another race. Started 5th and won by 8.5 seconds. Countdown to second race and...disconnect. After about an hour I had completed one race.
Stubborn me tried again and I got into a room with a full field of inept people. Half the field flew all over the place and the other half braked hard way before the corners. I started three races from the rear of the field and I have never received so many penalties before. After the 3rd race..disconnect for the final time.
When I was able to do a clean lap, I ran mid 1:31 which is comparable to @Aussie_HSV tune.
This morning I tried @wedjim latest tune with brakes at 6/8 and ABS 2. I also had to change the top speed to 155 to come anywhere close to the gear ratio settings.
I had my best times to date. I won 7 of 10 races. Here are the times for my best 2 races:
Started 6th: 1:38.745, 1:30.833, 1:31.238 (bobble in turn 3, wide turn 4), 4:40.816 total
Started 2nd: 1:37.576, 1:31.167 (scraped turn 1 wall), 1:31.273, 4:40.016 total
The times in bold are my personal best. In the other races, I ran a handful of high 1:30 laps but messed up on the other laps in the races. I think a low 1:30 lap and 4:39 total are well within reach.
I failed to mention in my other post that I had to swallow my pride and start going wide in turns 1 and 2. I got tired of getting penalties when the other people hit me when they returned to the track.
I would like to thank everyone here that have posted a tune. Without your help, I would be up the proverbial "raw sewage" creek without a paddle.

I am so slow at typing, your post came in before I finished my post.
I use AT and the other two transmission settings I use tend to bog down the engine revs in between the two left hand turns. With your last setting, the engine stays in the correct rev range. I think this was what allowed me to get into the 1:30 lap range.
Looking forward to your update.

Yesterday I tried a different approach to transmission building.

  1. Reduced power to stock
  2. Did a 5.500 final 112 MPH flip.
  3. Now 2nd launches bog on dumping the brake to launch
    • An Emerg. brake launch from idle in 1st is doable, more smoke though. Got to be swift with the lever 1>2>3 LOL
    • Still optimizing the interim gears with a 3.750 final ATM.

  4. Also added 10Kg of ballast @ -50
  5. Upped Rear DF 50 > 70
  6. Lowered Front DF 150 > 130
  7. Re-calibrated LSD settings to 7/55/6
Seems to be less drift and screeching through the esses. Still not able to crack 4:42.### but have seen some 1:31's and a few 1:38's lap 1, just to string 3 in a row together.

Raced with LSDHen with this tune and bested him thru the esses massively and could catch and pass him on occasion. Captured a video & will post it soon.

Edit: Here is the tune I'm evaluating:

I shall give it a run out later :)

I painted the car a nice dark shade of black from the Golf R in tribute to the VWs being run in the BTCC this afternoon ;)

I've made another step in the right direction, messing with camber, 0.5 front and 0 rear, the only trouble is it might be a little too unstable for big rooms :(

Nice little 5 car room was great for testing and making a bit of cash...

From pole a 1:37.086, 1:31.481 and 1:31.342 which gave me a 4:39.909 :D No idea where that first lap came from!

One target achieved just a 1:30.9xx lap to find...

@jlbmel pretty sure you will go faster by staying in the track at T2, everything I see indicates it's faster anyway ;)

There is a pass in the grass and some display of this tune's capability thru the esses. Still lacking in raw speed I think though.

@SCClockDr your build took a little getting used to, i could feel the front wheels hunt around quite a bit when I put the power in.

It's rear of the car is pretty mobile, but I struggled to get it to turn in at times :(

At this point I switched back to ABS1, this got it stopped quicker and I was now hitting the odd apex ;) :)

It's really good in the final two turns probably the best I've tried through there.

Was running consistent 1:30.8xx by the end of my test drive so it's fast! I rev the life out of the engine shifting up past the red line.

Note: I don't use active steering in fact I'm not sure where it is :lol:

Because it's pretty aggressive and the rear end likes to slide I might have problems actually racing it, I suspect I'd be spun out left right and centre if I didn't escape the pack :( I've found this to be the case in my more slidey cars :(

I need to sort out how to upload my saved videos, now that I know how to view them at least? ☺️

I got some 1:31's today, about 6. With a best of 1:31.44x! My best time improved to 4:42.6 as well! I didn't save it and thought it was lost forever, but the next run I ran back to back 1:31's and a total of 4:43.1xx and I saved that one.

I found lowering the back of the car and going slightly stiffer on the back springs made the car a bit easier to drive without sliding as much. As in @graveltrap set up.

@SCClockDr , I'll give your set up a try, but I can't believe how much stiffer your springs are than what I'm running? Have you messed with changing only spring rates and keeping the balance the same at all?

Interesting stuff!

My tunes for this car are a result of 200+ races. I've been up down & sideways. Nose down, up both high & low (slammed) you name it. Every time I think I'm done I have another idea & give that a try.
In theory the car should be undriveable but that is not the case in reality.
Now to buy another car and try all the tunes published just for grins.

LSDHen appears to have a new car today, the sponsored one, he's found more speed as I could not touch him. I could gain in places but over all a tenth or so behind each lap.

Hi, in my opinion you have 6th way to long, shortening just this gear you will gain some! ;-)

I had a few goes at this last night. My best laps were in the 1'33.xxx range but I won a couple of races.

In this one, me and a French guy just ran away from the rest of the field, but then he went to give me the win. I braked to stay behind but then he just quit. :confused:

And another win (this one earned.) I ran wide at the first corner as I thought I'd get hit, but it was plain sailing after that.

Looks good! Sounds like a little too much rpm drop between a couple of gears, mostly 4th to 5th? Check and see if there is room to adjust it and you may find a tenth or two?

That was just the stock gearing. I'll have a look at changing it later.

I've pulled over once to let the guy or girl behind past, this was because something odd happened a few corners earlier and they were leading the race. Turned into a corner as normal then *bang* I've hit them hard, but there was no sign of the car :( I don't think penalties were awarded and it seemed to be a connection issue, as the race was tight, fair and fun it didn't seem right to take the win so let them past on the start finish straight.

I really do like this sort event in quick match, and applaud PD for making them happen, but now I've found my pace and the car is working pretty good, checking out is starting to get a little boring :embarrassed: The fight through the back of the field whilst more entertaining as it is fraught with danger and penalties ;) I yearn for that good close exciting race where skills and setup come to the fore and that lets the adrenalin flow, these are few and far between but when they happen the reward is like finding gold!

Attached is the replay of my best run race so far, I'm naughty with the track limits at the exit of T7 :embarrassed: and its a boring lights to flag race. I did look at capture gear but with a PS4 purchase just round the corner and the want for a brake pedal with some feel its not money well spent right now ;)
