Linear games like Last of us, Uncharted, GOW and also RDR 2 choose to tell their own epic coherent story. All my favorite games of all times are linear and do not think story choices would have improved the experience. Personally I never understood the fuss about linear vs non-linear games. To me a story told well always beats a game with a mediocre story that gives you multiple story choices. What do player choices add to that experience?

That said different people like different games. Some like non-linear games like Skyrim some like an epic story about betrayal, love, comradery in RDR 2.

To explore non-linear story telling. Any tips on which games RDR 2 should have taken an example?
It's not the fact it is terrible, Rockstar just haven't given it a shot, Some cases a fully Non-Linear story can work(such as Fallout New Vegas) but even just a bit more options now and then would be a massive difference, the quality can still stay high when the options don't get excessive.

It's clear though coming into Red Dead 2 that it's choices where not going to be possible due to the fact the first instalment is giving you answers for the second before you even play it. But it would be a good addition for the next GTA.

To be fair there are significant differences between the story if you play with low or high honor. Any suggestion for a game with good implementation of story choices?

My personal suggestion is Fallout New Vegas as said before, it's a game you can play the story a near endless amount of times due to the fact you can change soo much of the story from your decisions. It would be excessive for a Rockstar title though but would improve the Single player element tenfold in re playable gameplay.

But it is something that Rockstar would have to make themselves with this one, each new title isn't related mostly to the previous ones so it can be done and make sense.

I wouldn't really consider Skyrim non-linear. Because the game starts and ends at the same point, no matter what you did.

The only thing that makes it non-linear is the character customization and some of the side quests. It changes the experience, but not necessarily the story told.

When I first played Skyrim I expected more choices than I got. And all you get is the civil war thing really, outside of character customization.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is a ps3 and PC game though. But if implemented well I think it will be their focus in future RDR. It's slow pace and honor system invites such implementation.

Can be bought and played through the PS store of the PS4 and the Microsoft store through the Xbox One as well though.

I have a PS4 Pro and its only vailable through PSNow. Which I dont have.

edit: I might try it out for both new vegas and RDR 1.

What are everyone's favorite spots in the game? Might as well include areas only in RDR1 as well.

I feel like saying Saint Denis is a cop-out

Shady Bell was an instant favorite due to the camp and the surrounding areas; Rhodes was also a quaint town I fell in love with.

However nothing beats the mountain views in the game.

Upper Roanoke Valley to The Loft is probably my favourite area. The Heartlands are probably a distant second. Braithwaite Manor is above and beyond my favourite specific location. Just thinking about the map a bit has reminded me how much I miss it. Not enough to turn it on and put up with the hassle, though.

I got RDRII for Christmas and started playing it, I'm having a good time so far. Though it seems there's a long road ahead of me, I'm only in chapter 2 and still have multiple things to do.

I can't pick a favorite. I love the Heartlands for it's open plains, the Grizzlies for the vistas, New Austin because it's the perfect west scenery and Rhodes for the contrast between the red sand/soil and the green vegetation (especially in sunny weather). The swamps are amazing when it's foggy and Amberino's snowy region is very peaceful.

The enviroment is top notch in this game. The best ever imo. But as many others, I haven't picked up the controller in 3 weeks now...

You say you haven’t picked up the controller in 3 weeks now.

I’m just wondering is that because you find the offline free roaming part of the game uninspiring?

I have no interest in any of the online capabilities so offline is a vital part of any game for me.

Absolutely hate the swamps. Worst part of the map. I also hate the upper Annesburg/Van Horn area

it's a waste of space and you never have to go up there until the very end...it's just so out of the way it's annoying

Also not a fan of Tall Trees either...the mountains would be cooler

it had further significance in the campaign.

Come to think of it I don't really care for Saint Denis either. It's too tacky and almost doesn't fit in with the game. And it's almost too big, especially since very few buildings are enterable anyway.

Valentine and the center of the map is the best area for sure in my opinion. I also really like Blackwater and the Great Plains but

they have basically no significance in the campaign.

And like others I haven't played the game in a few weeks. Maybe if they release more missions but right now online is just hunting and massive gunfights. The massive gunfights kept me occupied in GTAO for awhile but it's just not as fun in this game.

Oh, no. I've played the offline mode for 150h at least. And the online, I've leveled up to lvl 40 but the lack of content and fixes of exploits made me bored. The world is amazing but it's not enough to pull me in again atm.

Just finished the story and am into the epilogue; left speechless and amazed. If I wasn't going to start my second semester soon I would replay the story again. It is so good!!

Quick question:

Are there multiple endings? Because it feels like there could be multiple endings to the main story line. Also does each ending of the main storyline affect how the epilogue starts?

I helped Rain Falls behind Dutch's back.

I broke Marston out of prison with Sadie before doing Dutch's mission because I thought having the extra hand was going to be useful.

This is when Dutch became less trusting and I became more and more suspicious of Micah.

And then you get the two choices at the end of helping Marston escape or going back for the money.

I fought against Micah on top of a mountain. Dutch intervened but didn't believe me so he went his separate way. Micah split off as well.

Arthur is left atop a mountain breathing his last breaths looking at the rising sun before it cuts to the buck you've been seeing throughout the entire game.

That really hurt seeing him go out like that.

Also ran into a really annoying glitch where the AI won't do what they're supposed to or they stop dead in their tracks or your cinematic camera transition into a cutscene stops and your character just stands there.

Doing a mission where you're overwatch and your gang members don't move is really annoying.

Okay, I do have a few complaints:

1. It could be my system, but I've encountered severe framerate drops sometimes. One instance involved a mission in chapter 3 upon open-firing on a gang.
2. I've noticed some glitches with the AI such as npcs phasing through each other.
3. Um, why am I still being berated for not donating to the box when I'm contributing all the time?

Seems so as thats not the ending i had...

Um, I found the feminist lady in RDR2 protesting for women's rights. It's kinda interesting to see references to the suffrage movement (this and that one mission involving protesters). Though, Arthur Morgan seems to think voting is for idiots.
