Should We Use Spa Francorchamps in a Future WRS Event?

Look guys, I don't mean to be totally dismissive of the ill-feeling about this - I partially agree in principle and its true that they will milk us at every opportunity but that fact is the track is cheap and if you want to run two accounts with it, it isn't about to break the bank. As Kev said, alot of people end up running their GTP account as their main one. Mine started out as my main one, as it probably did for many folks who have been GTP members since before GT5 and for them its a no-brainer, obviously... but you've invested alot of time in another non-GTP account and insist that you aren't going to buy the DLC twice, just change the name of your non-GTP account to GTP_yourname in the PS3 XMB and don't login to PSN. Then your saved replay will still show your GTP tag... problem solved.

That is true about changing the XMB and running offline, I may consider that. It's a crappy move by Sony though, considering it's not like that on most other games DLC. I may end up downloading just the track on my GTP account and the combo on my main. I know it's off topic for the WRS but one example of why it's bad is in GT5 forums thread a father mentioned that he and his 3 kids all have their own accouts on one ps3 and they will have to download it 4 times if they want to use it.

All of my Rock Band and GH songs were available not only on separate accounts, but I re-downloaded them for free with my account on a new PS3.
Neither can be done with this DLC.

Actually, the DLC stated that it can be downloaded to 5 PS3's activated on your account... (in text on the store)
So if you have to buy a new PS3, you would activate it on to your account, and *puf*.. DLC should be available to you once again..

EDIT: Sorry for going off topic..

Nice Chris!

Just ran my first couple of laps with the GSX-R from the Suzuka WRS, what a blast!!

Btw, for what it's worth and regardig the principle side of the issue: PD can't do much about it:

Resolving the problem with using the DLC on multiple accounts, is not simple. t would be best if we could attribute the entitlement to use the DLC items to multiple accounts in the same PS3, but there is nothing like that in the PSN setup, and we can only assign the entitlements per User ID. There just isn’t a good solution for this I can think of. The entitlement to these non-onetime DLC’s can’t be attributed to the PS3 console.

I don't believe Kaz's explanation. Every other game that has DLC allows it to be shared amongst users of the same system.

Why doesn't he just admit that this is their way of putting a stop to any potential gamesharing of content? That's how I see it.

Yeah, if his explanation is true, then why do my Chromeline cars from the Collectors Edition automatically appear in the garage anytime I start a new save?

It's not that there's no way to do it, it's that they don't want to.

Exactly that. It's almost just an immature attitude to it all. They seem more focused with stopping any minor wrongdoing from occurring in the game (Glitch-exposing, game-save sharing, and don't even get me started on the Track Chat..), which be all well and good but they just completely overdo it. Why don't they just accept the fact that people are always going to find a way round their 'policing' methods and just cater for the people who actually support them and their game.. It's high time they just looked at every GT5 gamer who loves to play this game and has spent a lot of money for it and the DLC, and just think, "Alright, what do these guys want, and what can we do to improve this game?".

Now to decide if I should play around with my new toys or do some practice for 3d3 to stay sharp for the race tomorrow. :D

No 3D3 practice for you. Go enjoy spa. Go enjoy the rest of the DLC. Forget your brake zones. Who needs practice anyway? Life is too short.

Obviously duping and glitching is what they're trying to avoid, but I can't help but wonder why my pre-order bonus Mercedes can be used on any account on my PS3 and these cannot
Just making me want to give them my money even less.

I don't like liars, especially when they play me off as stupid.

Maybe the poll should be reset. Release news changed the overall sight of it. My GTP_Duck account it's not my main and not going to buy Spa twice just for WRS.
After reading the whole thread I think it's ok a WRS week at Spa. Admins explained it well.

But I already have to complain about how PD is managing the DLC thing; now I just don't like to be discriminated if I use the GTP_ as main or not, nor encouraged to buy Spa twice for competing (one week) to WRS events 👎

I'm the opposite to you Duck - this news is the last nail in the coffin for my original account. I will start transfering cars over and spending the money that's on my main account to supplement my GTP garage. It doesn't matter that it will take forever, as I only run WRS now anyway.

Nice video Chris - appreciate the upload to help with my GT5 cravings!

+1 Carlos. My main account is now going in the cemetery alongside yours. I haven't used it in a while anyway. I guess that platinum trophy is now a lot further away, but I prefer WRS and 3D3 anyway.

My only concern is new recruits have yet another reason not to go through the trouble of creating a GTP ID. IMO, for the first time a legitimate reason. Especially if additional DLC comes and you have them all tied to your "main" account. Kind of stinks, but not an issue for me/us already on the registry as we created our GTP account prior to DLC and can now decide which direction to take.

Sorry Carlos, I had to re-edit the post, but I think it shouldn't change your reply

I made a GTP ID only few weeks ago. That account is almost empty, aside of some paints and cheap cars.
It doesn't make a great difference for recruiting. I guess Spa will be used only 2-3 times a year. There is still space to enjoy WRS.

I didn't vote on this earlier; I am still letting the news settle in.

I am entirely conflicted about the matter. Apart from the initial disappointment, I'm still trying to decide whether to let that become principled anger, or just suck it up and plonk down the hard-earned.

Perhaps unlike longer-term members, I definitely do not like racing in public lobbies with my GTP_me account. Not only am I effectively carrying advertising and declaring allegiance (which is probably fine for so long as I only have one and she also remains true, if you see what I mean), but I am also worried about the burden of expectations; being an ambassador, being fast/clean enough, and so forth. Yes, I'm overthinking it, but it's how I feel.

Maybe that will change with time and confidence, but for now, I will most certainly be retaining the main account, and will therefore need the DLC there.

In this instance, I might get the track, but it sets a disturbing and likely expensive precedent that I may not be able to continue to afford; every incidental cost means less for a wheel, also.

I'm also annoyed that I'll probably wind up with a revolving door of wasted credit from separate PSN vouchers, unless someone knows of a way to split them/gift credit or purchases.

For GTP offline runs, you can switch your name in the XMB as Chris suggested. 👍

I'm going to make a separate proposal in 3D3 thread for that.
Nevermind, we don't need Spa to race it online as of now.💡

But it shouldn't be a problem for 3D3 anyway, as you don't need to have bought the track to run it online. So you basically only need 1 guy with the track in his online GTP account, the one hosting.

So you could use Chris' trick to run it in offline mode, and since it should not be a problem finding one person with the track in his online GTP account it shouldn't be much of a problem anyway. Just an inconvenience for the guys who need it in another account than the GTP account and don't want to buy it twice.

/edit: I felt the principle thing as well, even thinking about not even buying it altogether, even though I only use my GTP account. But after running it yesterday and seeing how much fun I had, I think i'd just buy the full pack with my main account and just the track with my other account, it's only 3,99 and less than a Latte as Kevin puts it. The track is sooo much fun, I believe the extra 3,99 is worth it. Especially considering the hours you're going to put in.

But..but..I just said that. :(

I also only use my GTP account anymore, and since I only play GT5 (for the past 11 months anyway) it shouldn't be an issue for me...But I'm just buying the track on my GTP account, nothing else (on either account), on the matter of principal.

The track was the important part for me in the first place, so I'll get that, but that's all, if I miss a WRS week or two because of it, so be it, I'll live.
Maybe they'll fix it sometime down the line, who knows?

I think I can deal with buying the DLC on my non-GTP account and run the offline Spa events on that name while the rest of the combos not involving Spa or any DLC that might come will be on my GTP name.

It's still very odd that they have made it to be this way even though pre-order bonuses and every other game with DLC can be used on any account that is on the system. Maybe it is something to do with gamesharing.

Our Lattes also cost in the ~$4 region; however, Sony have chosen to charge us AUD $6.95 for the track pack; they haven't heard about the exchange rates, apparently (that's the charitable version). The full pack is $18.95. Amusingly, you can't acquire a PSN voucher less than AUD $30, leaving a useless $11.05 sitting there - not quite enough to get a second set of the cars (mutter mutter grumble).

To get a second copy of the track, I would therefore have to outlay $60 (for a second such voucher!), or locate a pre-paid credit card*, or one with a one-use code service; a little more commitment than just a doppio ristretto or two, one might say. And I avoid buying coffee out except as an occasional treat :grumpy: Multiply this by future packs and it may become ridiculous; at least it will tidy the leftovers.

I have put in a fair amount of effort into making the GTP account fully equipped, while not neglecting the main; it irks me to be forced to choose, though that's no longer particularly germane to the thread, so please pardon the rant. I will not regard it as the end of the world if I have to miss a week here or there, as life causes that regularly enough, and I may be able to participate via other means, as you say. Epic Saga, Luke.

I don't mean to be discouraging; it's not the awesome team here's fault, obviously.

*Not a real one. Oh no. Ha ha ha.

In case somebody has missed the frontpage. PD will bring out an update which 'fixes' to problem, and lets every account use the DLC:

We’re planning an another update for GT5 in December. In that update users who purchased cars and tracks from the DLC already, can receive a free “family upgrade” in the PS Store, which will let all users in the same PS console use the DLC.

Great news - thanks for posting that Joost 👍 Seems PD listen to consumer voices despite our assumptions to the contrary.

Some Spa pictures... in the rain. :)

The color looks sweet on that car, and the rain makes it look like a typical day in Spa 👍.

Yeah I was going for Spa as we all know and love it. :sly: The colour is Olympic Blue Pearl - TVR paint I think. :)

We won't get Spa for a few more days but I was able to get my fix of Spa in the GT-R stelth from the online area and I am just blown away. Another track that was in Shift that GT5 set the standard for....... just breath taking 👍

Thanks, Joost. (I really should say that more often. Love your work).

I think Kaz must have mulled my tale of woe over for a whole hour before tweeting <_< >_>

I went and bought it!

I hope you can wait next update before racing at Spa :embarrassed:

Sorry, not gonna happen. Had my first Spa experience last night in a friend's online lobby, and I'm already hooked after ~10 laps.

We'll be at Spa in 38. :)

Excellent  👍

My lounge is currently open for anyone who wants to have a play around at Spa. I'm going for dinner now but I'll leave it open. Maybe a race or two later on. :)

If you're not on my PSN friends list, just send a request. Registry members only.

I tried to connect, but I got errors that the network is offline :(

Are you having the same problems, or is it just me?

/edit is was just me :)

I need to add more registry members so I can race against fair drivers. Too many corner cutters and dirty drivers in public rooms.
