So there's this driver in the GTP club who has a Subaru Impreza 22B tuned to B700. He shows up in my rivals feed over and over. Every time I race him, it's a struggle. I don't know how he does it, but it has ungodly acceleration and top speed. It's like a Saturn rocket tuned by John Force. The saving grace is he's not actually that good a driver. He makes plenty of mistakes. Overshoots braking points, tries to carry too much speed through corners, etc. I can catch and pass him with good racing. But if there are any straights, he always passes me. So it's become a real puzzle on how to beat this guy.
I've tried plenty of different cars and have settled on the Evo IX. I've tried buying setups for it, but I haven't found anything better than my own tune, which is pretty minor. I worked on a single race against him last night for three hours, the Redstone Strip Cross Country race. I worked on my line over and over. For the first hour, I couldn't get within three seconds of his time. In the second hour, I started figuring out where I could find a tenth here and a tenth there. Cut that corner tighter. Aim a little more to the left on that jump. In the final hour, I was finally even with him in time but kept making mistakes. Finally after three hours I beat him, and it was by 2 seconds.
While I don't want to spend three hours every night just trying to beat a single rivals race, it is very satisfying to finally get that win after so much effort. Also, I was ranked 25th out of 45,000 in the world by the time I finished, which is icing on the cake.
