What's wrong with finishing second? Maybe you ran into a team/car that hit the right setup, no one IRL wins every race :sly:

Other than the obvious, second place being the first loser :lol:, I generally set my goals higher than second. If this was a real race I would have had the opportunity to qualify, with Long Beach as in real life qualifying would be would be very high on a teams list.

Obviously the drivatar's difficulty setting wasn't lowered with the other AI, but stayed at the higher.

I just did a race at Le Mans Classic at night with the new 300ZX. Only after I started did I remember it had no headlights. So, I would jump from pack of AI to pack of AI, hoping they could light the way. I ended up passing for the lead in the Porsche curves, which was scary on its own. More scary than driving down the never ending straight in inky blackness at 205mph? Jury's out.

Literally did the same thing two nights ago. Historic GT series final race. Stuck to the back end of the leader like glue till the last couple corners, then made my move for the lead under the saftey of overhead lights. It was a pretty hilarious replay to watch though.

My brother tried driving the Lotus F1 at Sebring in Night. It was hilarious to see.

I raced at Sebring in the rain (my first time racing with this new puddle system), I don't know how I should feel about it, because the Puddle System feel like it came out of Mario Kart but at the same time I don't know what driving on a Puddle is like.

I have hydroplaned in real life, it was in a Ford Explorer but I think T10 did a pretty good job of recreating it. I was only going about 45 mph but it was enough to lose control.

I still need to get some more night racing in. Are there any night endurance races?

While I do appreciate the detail and work that's gone into recreating the hydroplaning effect, I find it a bit silly to have something to deal with; IRL, puddles like that would never be parked on the track before a race!

Even if they were, the race would either be stopped, or they'd bring out the safety car and get those cleared ASAP.

I feel the same plus the interesting thing of driving or racing in the rain should be about it being something dynamic, after a while you start memorizing the puddles and it just feels wrong.

The puddles are just another thing to overcome imo. It's quite good fun to see how far you can push your
luck with them :eek:

I agree with what's been said about the realism (not) of the situation though. No way any race would get
underway with such an abundance of standing water

How do you access the split screen mode? I had a friend here, I looked everywhere but couldn't find it. I was on the wheel and my friend had the controller, it would still work that way, right?

Go into free play, should be an option for player two to press the hamburger and enter.

Is there any way to access the autocross tracks outside of rivals and the showcase events? I was thinking of using them for testing but not if I'm limited to only certain cars.

Driving in heavy rain is a curious thing, that is for sure. And I don't mean in Forza, but in real life. I was driving back from my parents along the motorway ( The M1 in the UK) in August, and the rain was so bad I had pull over. I didn't pull over because of lack of visibility, but for the fact that I could feel an insane lack of grip while driving. It was like driving on black ice. It was frightening, even on a road as straight as a motorway. And as I had my 14 yearold little brother in the car with me, I decided it was best to just pull over at the next motorway services and wait for the rain to slow down/stop. I don't think I have ever felt as much fear while driving a car, as I did that night. And I don't scare easily.

What I have felt in Forza, isn't too far removed from what I felt that night. Without the fear obviously. I think T10 have got a good representation of how are car reacts in the wet, but I also think the puddles are a little on the excessive side. There are a few things I hope they improve for when FM7 comes along.

I must say (this is probably going to sound quite silly) but I notice the "pull" of driving over standing water at speed far more than before I played the game... thanks Forza, lol.

I'm sure they went so full on with the puddles to showcase their new tech. In 7, the puddles will likely be confined to the track side, to catch out those who put an unfortunate wheel on the grass.

I tend to avoid puddles in the real world. But that mostly comes from the risk of 3 points and a hefty £1000+ fine if a pedestrian gets soaked, not to mention the added risk involved with driving through them anyway.

I really do hope that is the case, as T10 do like to show off. Such as the excessive sun in FM5, and how it is now reduced in FM6.

I reckon this game could've been much better than it already is if in Free-Play you can choose which cars race. Kinda stumped you can't have a V8 Supercar only race on tracks like Nurburgring etc.

I found it strange that the grid lineup you're faced with when using any Group 5/IMSA racer in Free-Play is made up almost entirely of modern GT cars instead of other early examples. The only other opposition being the odd S class supercar.

Surprised that Free Play didn't adapt the same settings that Private Match has. I would like the ability to choose the ai cars from my garage with the custom liverys, that way could replecate certain events, even with the same cars.

Scary indeed..

Slightly off-topic:

Good things lie in wait for sure, by the time FM7 arrives. I just hope they don't do a number on us like they did with the sound in F6. Was scratching my head yesterday, just wondering why in blazes they would tone down the sample quality and detail level of engine sounds. Either they want to keep the 60 fps rock solid with all that the game does now, or maybe (industry politics can sometimes get the best of them believe me) someone paid "a few people" off to half-nerf the sounds, in order to give a certain competitor an edge with their next game.

I'm actually excited to see how Horizon 3 turns out, particularly with regard to sound, as they did a splendid job in Horizon 1 and 2 (X1 version).

Indeed! I mostly find myself using Free Play as an alternative rivals / time attack mode because nearly every custom race seems to put the player up against one or more oddities of opponent cars. :grumpy:

I think the sounds are far superior than any other Forza game.

Seriously mate, you sure about that?!

Take any 10 iconic cars (stock in both games) and race them first in F5 from cockpit, bumper and chase cam, then do the same with those cars in F6.

TELL ME you're not hearing more depth, clarity, frequency and dynamic range in F5 engine/exhaust sounds?:boggled:

For me Forza 5's car sounds are 'louder' but that's about it. The samples sound so much better in 6, cars like the Aventador, E46 M3 sound so much better. New cars like the Z28 and M4 sound so accurate as well.

There are car sounds that have been noticeably improved for sure, no doubt. However, just to give you some examples, these cars had far more depth and detail in their "audio character" in Forza 5:

* F12 Berlinetta
* F430 Scuderia
* SRT Dodge Viper
* 2002 M3 (or was it 2004? The one with the upgradable M3 GTR bumper...)
* 2013 M5 (the twin turbo one - sorry, I'm terrible at recalling year of manufacture)
* Nissan 240 SX
* Dodge Charger and Camaro (60s/70s)
* Z06 (the one from the V.Deisel movie XXX)
* ZR-1 supercharged
* ACR Dodge Viper

Many other examples - I'll have to revisit the game to come up with a more comprehensive list.
In short, I find some of the off-throttle and downshifting sounds unrealistic, in some cases, even cartoony.

Forza 5 - It's due to the higher dynamic frequency range and detail level/sample quality that you're hearing louder sounds - the AI cars around you are just as loud, especially when you go off-throttle. Check out AI cars passing by the camera during replays, you can hear their engines so distinctly and clearly. Load up a F6 replay, no sirree...same depth, detail and distinction is missing.

Mate, are you on TV speakers or home theater?

The E46 M3 is the one I mentioned as being much improved for F6, it sounds like an S54, not just a generic inline six sound.

I'm using a 5.1 system with a decent sized sub.

Sweet! Some sounds have been improved indeed.. the Huracan or F50 sound for instance, blew me to bits! As did the R34 Skyline, Supra and RX-7 sound.

Then there are those that have taken a step or two back. It's this inconsistency that bugs me a little.

These are actually very well updated. The Scuderia was a step back from FM4.

Very pleasantly surprised with the latest DLC. I knew about the Cadillac and Caparo but the others are a nice addition-very quirky and something really unexpected :cheers:
