"Customizing" could mean anything. We can already "customize" cars in GT, mechanically speaking. Visual customization has yet to be confirmed.

The "You will be able to CUSTOMIZE and tune your cars” from autoweek interview might be a hint. But It's PD...you never, never ever, will know for certain what's in the final game :nervous:.

The Civic's front bumper is stock Type R.

So far the mods I can see are wheels, bonnet/hood (including pins and minus the badge, maybe painted carbon?), mirrors, rollcage, maybe seats.

Jesus Christ don't you people read the interviews and big new's stories, Customization was confirmed, around a month ago..Through a interview with Kazunori.

Damn, for the First time, im not the only one moaning about that....Jeeez, people still see car customization as a Myth that would happen only in the 9th Dimension

Yes, the only thing is he have mentioned that you can change visual parts, beside of all the Mechanical Parts.

Like i said Before, he has said before that exterior, aero parts will be changeable and thats the main reason of modelling the car by parts.

Yeah, but it's good considering it's they're first attempt. But I've though of a genius idea to avoid having to look at the damage. Don't crash 💡

Not to mention we haven't seen the realtime deformation damage KY has said GT5 will have (and seen behind closed doors in a secret trailer).

god the AA really makes it look disgusting!!!!!

Why even bother using it!

I really dont understand why people think the screenshots are the exact gaming image when its not! They are glorified to give ppl the WOW factor! Hopefully in photo mode u wont see that ugly UGLY jagged shadows!!!

I don't know if this is an abortion of an attempt at sarcasm, or an abortion of an attempt at trolling.

Either way, it has nothing to do with this thread.

This is how carbon fiber should be

Warning really bad language, make sure kids are away

Also some comparison for the Civic.

So far in game are different side mirrors, wheels, and the hood thingies (two dots)..

great looking game but im really hating the shadows, they are kind of annoying, it takes me out of the general imersion of the graphics, i would prefer other type of shadows, ones in other games. This shadows are very box looking and moving too fast, so we see swadows boxes in different shapes and sizes all over the car, i would turn them off if i could.

Arnt boxy shadows dynamic shadows? which could be a major hint at a day/night cycle and/or a moving light source (sun)

Why would i even be here if im a GT fan since the very first one? Tell me that big man...

Dont be stupid.

I was giving my opinion on the poor AA in the game! its not just in that video, but in many others too. You would think they would try and make it half better then what it was in gt5p and in those videos.

I mentioned the AA is bloody horrible so boxxy it really ruins the lovely graphics!

But i got flamed at by children thinking i was trolling about it pfft

even if GT5 had minimal shadows so be it! i much rather it have no shadows on cars then that gridded ugly shadowing that they produce now..

that was in reply to the person you quoted too. couldn't find his post lol. 👍

It was actually sarcasm there. I had a pretty good idea why the damage isn't on par to say other racers. I was commenting like an idiot would by comparing the GT5 damage screens to that DTM video.

I have only noticed "UGLY jagged shadows" in videos like this one, where it was recorded on a 3-5 Mpixel camera-phone, with really bad quality.

I've seen with my own eyes (not through a video on youtube) these "UGLY jagged shadows". On 1080p mode with my copy of Prologue, on 1080p mode on GC's 09 demo and also in 1080p mode on the TGS 09 demo. It was quite easily noticeable, because the game looks almost photorealistic and very beautiful so aliasing and ugly shades are like a big stain on the screen... Visually, it's the only point where GT5 fails, I hope it will be fixed before march 2010.

By the way, that g37 looks very cool, even bumped. Thanks for digging these videos ;)

If you notice the shadows in gran turismo HD were not dynamic (they were part of the track) and driving under the trees did nothing. However, with the updates to prologue they changed to dynamic shadows (I think with the second patch).

This clearly meant the we are on our way to day/night cycles - they may not be perfect but they are much better than forza's shadows IMO, and I also agree they are more pronounced on youtube than in 1080P.

Oh yes, because PD can just go and increase the AA when they have pretty much maxed out the PS3 hardware already with their high poly car models, high detail circuits, 16 cars per race and full 1080p HD running at 60fps.

Give me a break, no racing game on console even comes close, and they all have just as many jaggies as prologue.

prologue (plural prologues)

1. A speech or section used as an introduction

Jaggy shadows are not a mystery in Prologue, but it's just that a prologue, corners had to be cut, i doubt we will see the same in the full piece.

Yup massive +1!!!

Its noticeable in a lot of videos recorded in HD, like the lancer on Tokyo and a few other cars.

It really does ruin the beautiful graphics that are what gt5p and gt5 are.
I do understand that they are using about 98% of the ps3's power! BUT you have games like Uncharted 2 and many others that have great shadows done! If they can do it, im sure PD have enough technology to do the same.

So i did some research into the shadows, and why they would appear pixelated. And here is what i found.

http://members.shaw.ca/phroggrafix/tutorials/spinning/spinning.html

For those not wanting to read the whole thing. Pretty much what it comes down to, is that GT5 uses a more advanced form of shadowing that uses multiple lights at different strengths to create a more realistic looking shadow, however because this puts more demand on the hardware they have not (atleast on the build shown) applied Anti-aliasing, or motion blur to fix the pixelation.

That being said i imagine that the shadows will look much better while playing the game and traveling at speed or during the replay's when more post-processing effects are used.

Issues with the shades are more noticeable on 1080p than on youtube videos. They are more or less obvious depending conditions of the scene rendered. We can witness it during gameplay and replays, post-processing effects don't fix it (yet ?).

On another note, when viewing the replays the game has a higher level AA and you barely notice any jaggies. Although that comes at a cost, replays only run at 30fps. 30fps would make driving the car harder, in a similar way to fps making a difference when aiming in shooting games. Higher fps makes your steering more precise and means there is no delay so it is easier. In 30fps, you can often get a very slight delay on your steering.

I would rather we had 60fps with the jaggies, than 30fps with slightly less jaggies.

Correct mme here, but i remember seeing an FPS analyzer on GT5P replay and it was only 30fps during the short intro segment then jumped back up to 60 when the replay\race began.

You are right, right before you take control of the car game is 30 FPS.

I don't think thats possible, the FPS rate gets capped at a certain level. The PS3 wouldn't be able to handle the extra AA at 60 frames anyway.

GT5P could probably hit 70-80fps but it would be variable depending on what is on screen, so they cap it at 60 to keep it as smooth as possible.

Some older pc games running on high end modern computers can run at 150+ frames per second, i find that amazing.

Anyway if you could find that vid again and give us a link it would be interesting to see :)

If you saw GT5 with no shadows, it would possibly look like one of the most unrealistic games on PS3.
I play PC games, any game with shadows turned off looks very very bad, even Crysis :)

About the AA, you can have a sharp image with slightly jaggedy shadows running at 60fps etc or you can have a very sharp game with high AA, nicer shadows running at 30fps. Still, high resolution shadows eat performance and so does AA.

At the end of the day, they're not gonna change it for a group of people who are not keen on the shadows.
