Republicans are generally more happy than Democrats, survey says.

Makes perfect sense. Republicans tend to be richer, and tend to be more “settled”, so why not?

Republicans tend to be religious... I can see how thinking that you and your loved ones are immortal would make you happy (not that that makes it true).

Let's see what else,

Republicans are richer, that would help.

They tend to be white and male, I guess that keeps you from feeling like a victim of society (ironically).

I could argue that republicans are smarter and so they're happier, but I've heard that ignorance is bliss...

 "ignorance is bliss"

Well, from an objective standpoint, Republicans have a kind of rosier viewpoint of the world than the more "liberal" Democrats... if you don't feel like there's anything wrong with your personal world that needs changing, you do tend to be happier.

Truthfully, though, being white would only keep you from feeling like a victim only if you live in a white community. Live anywhere else in the world and you'll feel like an outsider. A liked outsider in some places, "white devil" in others.

But even in places where whites are generally liked... take here, for example, it's not always a good feeling, being "different", or of another class... when my cousin once complained about it (she's almost 100% white), my Mom quipped "Now you know what it feels like" (Mom's nearly 100% Japanese; 50% German-Irish + 50% Japanese = 100% Japanese... made it difficult living stateside right after the war)

As for religion vs. non-religion, I don't know how that would affect the issue, but yes, I suppose the more religious you are, the more contented you'd be with your life, as you're not questioning everything like atheists or agnostics are.

Whether the lack of dissatisfaction is a good or bad thing is another question altogether. :sly:

Hmmm... smarter? dumber? Depends... If you know you've got everything, don't you have the right to be happy?

Those poor Democrats..... Seriously, I think this is as good as Astrology, etc. Generally happier or sadder, depending on if you are Republican or Democrat? Big deal! If they surveyed like million people, all over the country, then I'd take it bit more seriously.

Damn, niky beat me to it!

I agree with him -- with the way things are going in the U.S., liberals are displeased with many more things -- and want many more things to change -- than conservatives do. (Of course, each side is living up to its name in doing so... )

As far as foreign policy goes, many conservatives are content to say "**** off" to foreign powers, so they aren't particularly concerned with the way things are these days. Liberals, on the other hand, tend to be more concerned with how other countries view the U.S., so they're rather concerned about foreign perceptions of the U.S. these days...

These are generalizations, of course.

But see, they're missing the point. Democrats are only happy when they can have something to angry and unsatisfied about. They need injustices to overcome, wrongs to right, causes to celebrate. That's how they justify their overbearing need to control society.

Democrats rationalize it for socio/economic excuses. Republicans rationalize it for religious/moral excuses. Politics is where they meet in the middle and that's why America is currently governed by the worst of both worlds.

I don't like to think of it as Republican's and Democrats. But conservitives and liberals.

I consider myself a conservitave and republicans tend to be more towards my views. (actually, libertarians are the closest except for a few things ;) )

But the reason I think most liberals are unhappy, as Duke mentioned, is they need something to overcome to feel that their existance is justified. They also believe that it's the job of everyone else to take care of them instead of them taking care of themselves. This is the fundamental difference from republicans and democrats.

It's also why there is a slow shifting in this country from the left towards the center. People are getting bored of being told the gov't will do for them, then it doesn't happpen and they get told the same lies all over again. Granted, the republican party isn't perfect but their record isn't as horrendous as the democrats.

clap clap clap... 👍 A truly objective way to see it!
