Hi, people! I figured I needed a little more fun, so I ditched the Sidewinder gamepad for a newer one. I wanted something inexpensive, so I got a Retractable PC game pad by Profiler Software. It cost me about 16 or 17 dollars. I tried setting up the gamepad for rFactor, and it works pretty well. The style of the gamepad is like a Dualshock 2... meaning that PS2 types will easily adapt to it. It has these two small buttons with "ESC" and "Enter" on them, so that you don't have to touch those two keys on your keyboard.

I experimented with Force Feedback for this controller (which it has). The vibrating of the controller isn't like with the PS2 controller in rFactor. The feel of the road isn't really the same as in... say... Gran Turismo 4. My PC started slowing down considerably when I put Force Feedback in rFactor at Full. So I stuck with Low and Medium. Now, I don't really use the vibration feature. I suggest anyone looking for an inexpensive gamepad that's in tune with today's PCs, hit a WalMart and go get it. Nice controller for not much money.

I'm still enjoying the FIA GT experience in rFactor. It looks like on rFactorcentral.com, you got the Rolls Royce racing package including the Queensland track. There are a lot more Australian courses now available. Speaking of Australian courses, I recently let go of the V8 Factor championship on my PC. It was still great fun getting those V8s around these road courses. * The Radical Extreme Sports Car mod is in great shape with some nice renders. * The Sports Car Challenge has pretty much stalled in terms of new info. * The Le Mans Series is still looking good.

It's Spring Break for me, so I'll likely do much more of rFactor and more.

With in a few days I should have high speed internet(SO COOL:drool:),
so maybe I will finaly buy this game and start downloading stuff for it:).

I downloaded all those things for the FIA GT mod for rFactor. I think it's really great having the two cars that fought tooth-and-nail in the ALMS and at Le Mans with the Corvette and the Aston Martin. I tried out some courses as well. I didin't get to all of them because I was straddling trying to do home work and just "sampling" the other tracks. Only car I haven't used was the Alfa Romeo 8C.

I also downloaded Norisring and Adria. Norisring looks simple, until you actually race it. You get to cover so much ground in one lap. Its simple nature is blinded by the fact that your car can get completely OWNED without proper racing techniques. * Adria is strange. The track comes in at around 1.7 or 1.9 miles. The track layout, however, looks like your average Grand Prix-type race track. Read my comments on rfactorcentral.com (my screen name is Gold_Moon) about Adria. I mentioned that you could run 48 laps in one hour around this course. It's kind of like doing the Mills Metropark GP course, only more technical. It is a very unique course that really tests you in such short space.

And there you have it.

* The JGTC All-Star Package looks great indeed. The LMS mod is going pretty well, but the Sports Car Challenge thing is at slow progress. All I've heard was that there may be another mod group trying to take the project and continue work on this F1 Challenge conversion. If anything, I think the best chance for traditional sportscar racing with prototypes lies in the hands of the Sports Car Challenge mod, since it isn't seriously difficult. The Le Mans Series will look wonderful when released. In the meanwhile, however, I'm still playing around with the FIA GT package. Race that Howston and see what it's like to handle the car. Then try the massive FIA GT mod. Much more significant in handling and performance.

* Playing that mod and in some other cars, I have a greater appreciation for aerodynamics. Most cars without a front splitter or rear wing at high speeds won't be able to corner effectively. It's why handling those formula cars can be tough without proper aerodynamics and good suspension. I remember I did a 30-minute race at Mills Motorsport Park in my Murciélago GT-R. I was doing fine until these two Porsches spun themselves out as I hit one of them. Around the track, it felt more like a stock car than a GT car. Understeer in the corners and not getting enough speed. Out of 20 cars, I still managed to finish 5th.

* Also, have you checked out the latest video on the rFactor Drift Project? Here is a link to the rfactorcentral.com entry for this mod: < http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=rFactor Drift Project >. The newer picture uses the still-WIP Euro Ring. The first lap is everything you'd expect in a Grip car. The second lap is when the car gets sideways into the turns. The drift actually looks pretty nice around the Euro Ring. So check it out if you're on rfactorcentral.com.

* My last entry will touch up on the Euro Ring itself. I mentioned that most of the corners seemed like slow corners. Not really Brno slow, but a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear corners. I'm sure it's pretty technical. But I don't know... nothing really grabs me about the Euro Ring.

And that's all from me today.

I run the quality lower because with 22 F1 cars on track it gets a bit jerky. lol

Here's an rFactor question I'd like to ask you all. Gran Turismo's Grand Valley Speedway has long been an rFactor track. Which other fictional track from a console game would you like to see someone try to recreate for rFactor?

Here are some fictional courses from the three big console racers that I would be interested in seeing someone remake for rFactor:

1 - Löwenseering (Enthusia Professional Racing
I don't think I've ever shown any hate towards Enthusia. When I got to race this track for the first time, I got to understand how dynamic this track is. I think this is one of the most challenging fictional tracks ever. You have the banking in the normal direction... which leads to several twists and turns later. Enthusia veterans know about the Driving Revolution involving the 2004(?) Team Goh Audi R8. Imagine doing this track in rFactor. Only difference is that you probably won't see planes fly by like in Enthusia.

2 - Alpine Ring Raceway (Forza Motorsport)
Alpine Ring is probably the best of the fictional race tracks in Forza. I remember doing some Free Run drives around Alpine Ring in a number of LMP machines. It is a true Grand Prix-style race course. As an rFactor course, it would be great to use for a number of races including formula race events and perhaps any of the better race car mods.

3 - Pacific Gateway (Enthusia Professional Racing)
I love San Francisco. Such a beautiful place. This track is reminiscent of Gran Turismo's Seattle course with all the different elevation changes. This track is more technical than GT's Seattle Circuit. Again, I doubt that the beautiful lighting effects in Enthusia would be reflected in rFactor. The drive through downtown San Francisco lets you see the Transamerica Pyramid and the Golden Gate Bridge. Racing this course in reverse is greatly challenging since the second half of the circuit comes first. The second half of the course is much more technical and much more challenging than the first half.

What do you think?

I was also thinking about that point-to-point race on the streets at night from Forza. But I wanted to limit things down to closed circuits. Now let me get on to what I really want to bring up.

GTPlanet, check this out:

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Panoz Esperante

ISI has released a pre-release of the Panoz Esperante mod. I just found this out when I checked out my Live Bookmark for this website in my copy of Firefox. The exact words from the rfactorcentral.com entry are as follows:

"ISI have pre-released the Panoz Esperante. Initially available in parts to Standard and Premium Race2Play members, followed by a free public release on April 17." -rfactorcentral.com entry on the Panoz Esperante mod

So after waiting for a while with little or no updates on this mod, we finally get some big news on this mod. People who know Sports Car GT may remember the old Panoz models ranging from the base Esperante all the way to that wicked Esperante GT1. You want this mod right away? Better get your bum on Race2Play!

The LMS, Radical, and FIA GT3 mods on rfactorcentral.com have some new screenshots. One of the new LMS screenshots features something people wished happen in reality- a car leading the Audi R10 (the #20 Dyson Lola). There's even a close-up of the Flying Lizard Porsche. I'd sure love to be a Risi Competizione driver if we get Risi. You know I call them "Ferrari of Texas." But I'd take Risi's Ferraris and represent my hometown sportscar team with class and honor.

The Radical mod has a very interesting menu screen. While I'm not obligated to directly link to it, the latest picture for the Radical mod gives a very interesting look at how the main menu screen will look when you're ready to throw down in your Radical. So check that out on rfactorcentral.com. Don't forget that there's also a new YouTube video of this mod on rfactorcentral.com. This will give you the best idea as to what kind of racing to expect on your favorite rFactor tracks. This even includes an idea on how each car will look in addition to their performance capabilities. Part of the reason why I wanted to join rfactorcentral.com was just to follow this mod. Now there are about eight other mods I'm deeply interested in.

Times are looking great for rFactor gamers! Cash in.

Feel free to comment on this material or maybe on what fantasy tracks from GT4, Enthusia, or Forza 1 you think would make great rFactor tracks.

FSOne 2006/2007 is shaping up to be one of the greatest mods for rfactor and definately the bst F1 mod. Just look at these screenshots from what will be the next release of the mod (1.1)

I don't know... I haven't picked up any of the F1 mods probably because of how challenging it's been for me to win a Formula IS race or against that BMW Sauber. Last F1 game I ever really got into was "Formula One World Championship" on the Nintendo 64 (also for PS1). But I look at screenshots like what Allianz posted, and those extra screenshots look amazing. They probably could have put a few more curves on the lady in the fifth picture ;-). Otherwise, it looks great. I sort of wish full pit crews could be textured and modeled for a number of different mods. I'm probably sure there aren't full pit teams because of frame rate issues. So I'll tell you what. I'll look into perhaps downloading this FSOne mod. Then I'll test my lack of F1 driving skill (except in the GT series) and give these cars some wicked test drives.

I'm almost compelled to give this specific F1 mod a try.

It has to be said, it is the first time any team has attempted any detail in the pits so it could go horribly wrong:P As for the Formula IS I always found them challenging whereas other F1 mods are a bit easier, if you fancy an open wheel mod with loads of teams and reasonably forgiving physics, try the RFGP challenge:)

I had a chance to do a little FSOne racing for rFactor. I'll talk about the finer points of this mod and how it performed on my PC.

This mod features beautifully-modeled and textured cars. I'm telling you. The detail is incredible. I did a test run around Shanghai (Jiading) using Scott Speed's Toro Rosso F1 car. The cars have incredible performance. The sound package is more like the older F1 models rather than the distinct note of the V8 F1 cars in today's F1. As I mentioned, the cars are modeled beautifully. Trust me. It ran pretty slow when I tried to get more cars on the track, but the racing is awesome. I still managed to lose it all in one corner and lose. But I was actually able to lead at one point unlike in the Formula IS deal. Check out the different onboard views. The detail is amazing. It's the thing I love best about this mod. It's beautiful all around. I'm talking flawless beauty. It comes in as a 254-megabyte ZIP file. It may take a while to get everything down, but it's all great in the end. I think F1 fans are going to get a lot out of this mod. I didn't get to install the 2007 paintschemes in my test drive of this mod.

Tracks I used in practice races include the Grand Prix of Malaysia (Sepang (F1 races there this weekend)) and Surfer's Paradise. I think this is one of the best F1 mods for a great reason. Give her a try, will 'ya?

In my next write-up, I may talk about racing in rFactor on perhaps one of the world's most popular race tracks- Brands Hatch.

you dont think that the ctdp 2005 f1 cars are much better modeled? i never downloaded the fsone, but from what i've seen, the cars dont seem to be modeled as well. there doesnt appear to be as much detail and the cars appear blockier in some spots.

I dont get it. I dont have any engine sound in the fsone mod. You only hear gear shifthing. Any help:dunce:

I believe I have reported my findings on the Formula Nippon 2006 season. I noted that the steering was incredibly heavy. So I tried the 2005 Formula Nippon cars. And let me tell you something. The 2005 Formula Nippon mod features better-handling cars. These cars are also hellishly fast. I never realized that Formula Nippon race cars were so incredibly fast. They pack about 530hp and carry a beautiful engine sound. They can reach speeds of about 180 to 190 mph. To give you an idea of how fast they go, I was able to do a hot lap around Surfer's Paradise. I managed to log a time of about 1:36.829 around this great street circuit. Surfer's Paradise is a mostly flat street circuit which features decisive hairpins and high-speed racing. Formula Nippon race cars are wicked fast with a six-speed transmission. In fact, these are almost like F1 cars. If you were unhappy with the steering of the FN2006 cars, then try the FN2005 cars. Look for the "Nippon Racing" mod on rfactorcentral.com. These are some awesome cars.

I did some rounds around Brands Hatch for rFactor. I only raced with an rF3 car. I had to get adjusted to new cars after using the FIA GT mod so religiously. I had a little fun in rF3 with this track. I may go around in a Ferrari 360 Modena GT. I only did the Indy course. I haven't done the GP course yet. The GP track makes you want to drive fast, but cautiously. Because going too fast heading into a corner will make you fly off the road and into either grass or a wall. You have to be very careful around the Grand Prix course. Take it from a guy who raced this track countless times in the ToCA Race Driver series. It is still a great track. It should greatly compliment the ETCC 2003 mod (there's an ETCC '80s mod in the works. Check it out on rfactorcentral.com).

That's all. Have a great weekend!

Good question..I might compare the 2 next weekend properly when I have my DFP back.

Meanwhile, it looks like a wet weather update and a new ISI track are on the way, http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=287136

On the last page you can cleary see in the photos, the BMW Sauber has wet weather tyres on ,theres wet weather reflections on the road, murky clouds etc. So watch that space! The new track appears to be Sepang.

I don't have too much time right now. Let me just touch up on a few things.

--- Texas ---
I downloaded the Texas Motor Speedway for rFactor. It's a tough oval that's almost like road course width track. Then too, someone thought Texas Motor Speedway was in Houston because the Houston skyline is in the distance! I thought it was in Fort Worth last I checked. Anyhow, it's a tough oval.

--- Panoz-Mania ---
rfactorcentral.com has a few Panoz Esperante mods available, all to be released April 17th. I think you can buy it on race2play or whatever it's called. Panoz in rFactor? You bet!

That's all for now.

I had a chance to play the final build of the Porsche Fabcar Challenge. Granted I don't particularly love Daytona Prototypes, I did take it for a ride around Orchard Lake's road course (my designated test course). The car actually handles quite well. There are some times in which the car will probably oversteer than it's actually supposed to (like exiting a corner), but other than that, they handle surprisingly well for cars not specifically designed to be all-out LMP killers.

So pick up the Porsche Fabcar Challenge and play with it a bit. In fact, I'm almost inclined to use the Daytona Prototypes with the NGT cars of the FIA GT mod. You know, just to make for some proper GARRA action. (And then, I can just take a standard Porsche and beat the Daytona Prototypes like in 2003!) Oh wait... did I say that out loud? Anyhow, check it out. Not a bad mod.
