Roj's Golf

First off thank you guys for all that you do for the GTPlanet community.
👍

Review:
This is the first time I've ever used a tune period. I must say I noticed a drastic improvement in my car's performance. Before I used the tune you guys made I was getting frustrated with this car. It wasn't very fast but it showed great potential in the handling department.

Once I added the parts to the car and adjusted the settings with what you guys provided I started to have the time of my life with this car. I was eating corners like they were a turkey on Thanksgiving. The speed picked up as well. Managed to knockout a SLR and M5. Even managed to slip by a R8.:sly:

All in all this is a great tune in every department. Thank you guys.

Overall score:
[8.5/10]

Would be higher but I know if I was to use one of your tunes for the R8 or M5 it would demolish the Golf.

I think you were a little mistaken with the actual tune itself and the car itself. In your overall score, you don't evaluate your score on how good a performance car it actually is. If people did this then hyper cars would be getting 10s all the time. You evaluate your score on how good the tune actually is. What differences has the tune made compared to the stock car? How does it feel compared to before? Is there anything better, or worse? Have your lap times or consistency been improved? Is it more enjoyable to drive? This is how you would evaluate and score your review.

I may be mistaken but I do believe I covered everything you mentioned except for the lap times.

Maybe I didn't go as far into detail as most people do but I mean hey how many posts do I have? So forgive me if I made a mistake on my first post on this forum. I only signed up in the first place just to thank these guys. I'll know to go more into detail next time.

I think I came about this wrong. There was nothing wrong about the review until the very last part. You said that you would have marked it higher if it could compete with certain cars. Each car has it's limit. How well a car can perform against other cars should not come into consideration when reviewing a tune, in my opinion anyways. That should be done as a review of the care itself instead. 👍

Reviewing a tune for a car and reviewing the car itself are two different things. Make sure you don't get mixed up.

Oh okay my fault there, I see the mistake I made and I'll correct it.

@SiCkOnE87 you did fine in your 1st post and welcome to the planet.:gtpflag:

Us tuners love hearing as much detail as possible but even a short review like the one you gave is great to see. Let's us know that our tunes are being seen, used and appreciated.

As for your rating of the car and tune, that is a much more subjective thing and there is no right answer. I recently tuned a car I didn't much care for to compete in a contest. The car shocked me by winning and receiving great reviews from several respected members of the community. I still don't care for the car and plan to have RJ and Roj here tune it to slightly higher specs. I'm expecting a much more exciting car that will be more enjoyable.

Point is we all have different preferences in cars so what makes a perfect car for you is not necessarily the perfect car for someone else.

Hope you'll continue to be an active part of the community and find many more great cars to drive here in the tuning forum.👍👍

That will change soon. :)

Looking forward to when that happens. I love long, rambling reviews. :D

That said, given that was once my Golf I do like hearing it's made a large enough difference for you.

Only reason Roj ever got it off me was because I didn't quite like it (wasn't terribly impressed with the car on the whole),

I wasn't sold on the car right away. It took me about a good 4-5 races for it to grow on me. Once that happened I started roaring through the course without hardly ever touch my brakes. That's when I got hooked on the car. So far it's got 500 miles on it and I've been using since late this afternoon.:dopey:

I thought you liked shorter ones? But if that's the case, let's see if I can spend a week writing one for you, see how long and rambly I can make it

Chose to try the R34 Black Edition tune. Working on the review right now. Hopefully it's better then the Golf review.
If I were you, I'd take the RKM Signatures out. The NSX-R 3rd Anniversary and the RX7 R400. The NSX, especially, being the car that had me raving and rambling for 10 reviews straight (maybe more, actually), it's safe to say, take the plunge, don't look back. If you hate that car, you just have no soul :dopey:
It was just begging me to do it ^__^
 Imagine a dormitory filled with year 6 boys singing that song in the middle of the night (5AM) at camp, while playing with torches  Yea, now you see why this song has a particular…attachment to me and my childhood.
Assuming Onboy knows the song. He was completely clueless about ABBA last time. :dunce:
Well, as I told Dylan, I don't listen to your stuff :D

Base (With Oil Change)
Top Speed: 170 mph
Lap Times: 1) 2:14.885 2) 2:14.488 3) 2:13.871
Handling Grade: 5/10
Fun Factor: 5/10

Sse7Sl.jpg

Comments: Okay so right out of the gate this car is a beast. Every turn you make you have to ease up on the throttle. Very hard to handle the car. It just won't turn for you at times. (Not as bad as an Enzo though)

btXnPl.jpg

Upgrades Installed (Un-Tuned)
Top Speed: 172
Lap Times: 1) 2:01.780 2) 2:01.569 3) 2:00.666
Handling: 6/10
Fun Factor: 6/10

Comments: Not much improvement is speed but a drastic improvement in the handling department. With the upgrades installed it'll start to turn better. Drastic improvements in lap times just with the installment of the upgrades. There's more improvements on the way so let's keep it moving.

ekIFUl.jpg

Fully Tuned
Top Speed: 190
Lap Times: 1) 1:59.994 2) 2:01.640 3) 2:00.576
Handling Grade: 7.5/10
Fun Factor: 6/10

Comments: With this tuning from RKM you get a nice speed upgrade. Handling gets a nice boost as well. Lap times didn't change much. (Probably cause I'm still a newbie) Although I did see slight improvements.

Final Comments: It may be my driving style that this really didn't work out for me personally, as I thought it would. The tune is great though. Did a drastic improvement in handling for me. Improved my lap times. Had a decent time driving it.

Final Score: 7.5/10

Questions for RKM Motorsports:
1) No turbo upgrade?
2) Why didn't you guys install stage 3 engine?
3) Could racing softies make the car handle and accelerate better?

I think I can answer the questions, but I'll leave it to Roj to explain and elaborate.
1. Because it's like trying to harness a hurricane
2. RJ was planning on building one with stage 3 anyways, I'm guessing that's why. That and the fact that 490hp (with oil change) is more than enough power to deal with
3. The former, no, it'll feel more numb due to the extra grip. Not the case for most cars, so you'll just have to try yourself. The latter, yes, more grip = earlier on the power when exiting a corner = faster. And I think you could get away with stiffening the springs even more (?)

By the way Roj, any chance revealing what your BCC car is? If it's something that's miles better on paper than my Merc, I'll whip out something from the leaderboard of another budget car challenge :mischievous::dopey:

kind of a review thing but more of a thanks for a good tune.

I looked at the new Seasonal 90 Japanese time trial and really didn't know what car to use. I looked at the leader board to see what others had used and once again people had used a super car style thing road going version of a race car, the Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car '98. I like to use a reasonable car for the seasonals. so I looked in my garage for a Japanese car as close to 1000kgs as possible. I found the Civic type R (EK) right age and weight was only 1050kgs.

That was going to be the car for me.
Now to tune it to 345BHP and make it sit on the track right.
popped on to the forums to see if I could fine a decent tune. My very first port of call was RKM. I know they do a lot of JDM cars so thought it was a sure bet they would have something I could put on my car and of course they did. The Ricer.

Now I'm a bit of a ureist when it comes to things like Type-R's I loved the fact the early Intega Type-R's were only available in white with white wheels so i have made sure all my Type-R's are white with white wheels I have had to re-buy standard versions when a white one come up in the UCD. some might say I'm a little OCD about it all. But I digress.
So I bought all the parts needed to make the car the right BHP level.
Started adding the Ricer tune to is. Now my BHP and weight was a little different to the specs of the tune car but the numbers still worked fine.

First lap round and the car had too much power, and the front wheels where spinning up all the time on the Comfort soft tyres.
Back to the work shop and I took a couple of little bits off including Clutch plate and flywheel. bringing the BHP down to about 320. I also increase the LSD settings by about 5 to 10 points each initial and accel.
Back out on the track. the wheels were spinning less which was nice. I could now accelerate out of the corners properly.

For gold I had to get I think it was 1:35.xxx with this little rocket i managed it in 1:32.xxx I was really happy.

Thanks for the tune guys, I know I changed things a little but it was your tune that made the difference.

can somebody here kindly explain how the transmission setup for each car works if I want to use kmh unit instead of mph?

Because some of the top speed there reaches more than 400kmh when converted. Isn't that really as it is? For example, the top speed 261mph is 420kmh when multiplied by 1.6km/mile. Its kind of very high for a street car isn't it?

Can someone help?

Thanks a lot

The top speed setting can seem a bit high but a lot of the time it makes sense when you adjust everything else too 👍 or in other cases the cars are just extremely fast. I can say with confidence though that every transmission setup I have used has been perfect for the car :D

Well, that and the fact that Roj might decide the car spins its wheels too much so he sets it longer to keep it from spinning too much. That and to leave some room for drafting.

I've started setting mine with the longest possible first and shortest possible last. Always seems to work :D

Well…since I took up drag racing, I've actually started tuning the gears as opposed to just 'tranny trick'-ing the gears to fit. And the result is that I'm just marginally faster than I started

I just use RKM's Corvette RM tune for those rare moments when I want to drag...launch in second, beat all the kids in anything but a Viper, Veyron or Speed 12, ????, profit!

I'm assuming this is on SSR7? And next time, bring me along!!! :D If anyone does whip out a Veyron, I can finally race mine again! :D

Usually TGTT with all the wee kiddies :D SSR7 is dangerous, since I have drafted it to 268mph and still accelerating o.o

I'm currently running 893bhp, max for the ZR1 RM is 918bhp :sly: I need to draft a Veyron...

Go to arcade mode and SSR7.

Speaking of drag racing, I think I've just come across the single most dimwitted, illogical and thick host ever. Me and Temetias of KMW were drag racing, rare enough a thing for me, he's in the lead. Half way down the 1/4 mile, this royal bastard in his ricey Audi RS6 rams me. I wouldn't be that mad at first, but then he goes around knocking seven bells out of everyone else. Me, Temetias and a few others take turns at smacking some sense into him but his RS6 is like a house compared to our JDM sheds. So I whip out my RAM, Temetias takes his X1 out as we assumed the host was sleeping and just as we were extracting our revenge, he gets kicked. What's the most stupid thing here is that if the host was awake enough to notice an X1 on the track and to kick it, HE SHOULD BE AWAKE ENOUGH TO NOTICE THAT COCK IN HIS RS6 AND KICKED THE CAUSE OF THE X1'S APPEARANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

I swear, I have never been this pissed off at any host. I have never felt the urge to smack some sense into a person than this, not even when Roj threw me off the track.

Sorry, I just can't tolerate idiots who can't use any logic. We shall return to tuning talk shortly.

Overall score:

Welcome to GTP and thanks for the review! Despite it's low power, the Golf is a proper pocket rocket. :D I love it to bits. Glad you like it!

Considering we love Evo's, it'll be something like the Emperor tunes we've done, except for rallying. :D

Thanks for giving the R34 a test! I undertand not every car will suit everyone. 👍

Answers for you:
1. The stock turbo is very capable on it's own and upgrading it will add too much power for sports tyres anyway.
2. It would be too powerful for sports soft tyres.
3. Kind of. You'll notice the car will feel more numb with racing tyres and it wont accelerate any faster. If you boost power then put racing tyres, then yes it would handle and accelerate better.
By the way Roj, any chance revealing what your BCC car is? If it's something that's miles better on paper than my Merc, I'll whip out something from the leaderboard of another budget car challenge :mischievous::dopey:
No, I always keep my car a secret until Airrider reveals it. :D

Thanks for the tune guys, I know I changed things a little but it was your tune that made the difference.
Thanks for the review! The Ricer is a decent car for comfort softs, although if you're going to use it for racing or time trials, I suggest the VTi-R settings as they're a bit more suited to the higher power stuff. Glad you liked the tune though and well done for beating gold by such a margin! 👍

It is, yes, but the final drive and last gear ratio usually bring the car's top speed back to something reasonable. I use high max speed setting jut to get a longer first gear that supresses wheelspin. 👍
