RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Thanks for giving the Odyssey a review! 👍

My first and really only problem when tuning the Odyssey was dealing with that 5-speed gearbox. I had to keep first gear short to give the car a great launch off the line so I lost a lot of potential top speed there. A 6-speed gearbox would've made things easier.

I'm surprised it can stick to an R32. Not bad for a van with no trick differentials eh? :sly:

Well, the R32 has around 35 bhp less, and more than 100kg more - the game takes care of the trick differentials in the PP calculations it seems :) The car is still impressive, though 👍

A quick review of Roj's Castrol Supra:

I needed a car for the 1000km of Suzuka and this car was perfect. The car was already an easy car to control to begin with, and this tune makes it so much better.
The acceleration is good, but the NSX's were a bit faster in a straight line, so the race was really close.
Overall, I really like this tune. Its easy to control, very user-friendly, and has superb brakes. Though its Achilles heel is the straight line speed and most of the other GT500 cars outran it.
The overall tune gets an 8.5/10

the mclaren tune is absolutely awesome thnx guys

Sounds like praise! :D but which McLaren? We have four at least...bet it won't be mine though!

Speaking of which, maybe I should make a mini competition to see who can do the fastest Nurb lap in one of my three racing cars, the SLR, Viper GTS and the MP4 :3

I'll join with my S2000 GT1 and clean up the competition. :D

Thanks for the quick review! The Castrol Supra lacks a bit in top speed, probably because it's a lot older than the GT500 cars. It makes up for it in the corners though. :D

You're welcome. Which McLaren though? :P

There's a 1 in 4 chance it'll be yours. 3 in 4 that it'll be mine. I like the odds. :D

You totally should.

Another pink S2000 for the stable. :P

Is there anywhere I can find a post that explains what every setting does for the car? For example what in the world does Toe Angle do?, and if you stiffin the front springs, what happens. A forum like that. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure a GTPlanet user made a guide to tuning for GT4, still applies to GT5. Can't remember who it was for the life of me though.

Edit: It's Scaff. His guides are in the tuning guides sticky in the tuning forum.

Tuner Comments:
Oh look, it's that BMW nobody knows or cares about! But wait, "Sapphire, Y U NO TUNE FOR REALZ?" I hear...because I wanted a good stock car just to have fun in. No need for 400bhp lunacy or a giant spoiler, this is a fun to drive 450pp weapon I am rather proud of.

what about the transmission

It doesn't have transmission settings because it uses the 6-speed close-ratio gearbox, not the fully customisable one. 👍

I have done a lot of tunes, usually I consider my self a good tuner but I always seem to have problems tuning the transmissions right. Any good tips for that?

By the way love your tunes helps save time when I'm in a rush and done have time to run a track over and over for my own tune :)

It depends on what car I'm setting the transmission on. If it's a high power FWD or RWD car, I'll set 1st and 2nd a lot longer to keep the wheelspin down. 4WD cars can get away with anything but for the ones with low power you need a really short 1st gear if you want to have a good launch from it. As for the other gears I just space them out so I'm always in the powerband when I'm accelerating.

I love keeping 1st nice and long for higher powered cars, or ones with little grip at the rear...my Lancer 1600 and AE86 both hit 60 mph at redline in 1st :D

I make my 1st gear long too but everytime I try to launch off the line in something like the weider hsv Honda, chapperal cars, and and escudo,,they just bog down and I have to wait 5 seconds for it to go off the line.cars like the zonda r or Tvr speed 12,and ferrari f1 cars, they need a long 1st gear so it would have a better start

The Chaparral cars have 3-speed gearboxes, so you're not going to get a good launch out of them without sacrificing a lot of top speed anyway.

Yay! Go RKM! :D

Hell yes, RKM might be back for a while!

Tried out the BMW 330i CSL the other day and rather liked it. As stipulated in the setup, one should be able to have fun in machines some way removed from 400bhp and I certainly did in this car. 👍

The car handles rather nicely and will suffice for most of the 500PP seasonals - tried it at TM and CRP and easily got way ahead of the pursuers (R246 is always a bit more problematic for the lower powered machinery and I have yet to try that).

It is definitely a grip over power tune and a rather front heavy BMW (I suppose most of the weight reduction comes from the seats and the boot carpet? ;)). Irrespective of the weight balance, you will not get an understeery beast but a very neutral car, the puny engine not quite sufficing to kick the tail out in most circumstances.

Overall it is largely the engine that will hold the car back, where acceleration is necessary - as the car carries really good speed through corners. On the back straight at TM for instance, the car really struggles to reach 205kmh, where many only slightly PP stronger contenders will easily get to 220kmh or more. Still, it is in keeping with the character of older naturally aspirated BMWs, which were always a bit weak chested, when it came to torque.

That aside, it is a lovely little car and definitely something that less handy drivers can use well to train in FR dynamics. Very nicely done 👍
