RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Really you are coming here to for the Volvo tune.

Well, they helped me out for so long in this game, with their several tunes, and since my driving always fit Roj's tune, so why not use on of his tunes when I can't make one to save my life? Besides, Roj is one of the best tuners around, I can guarantee you atleast one of his tunes you will use for some time!

Hey Roj, could you do me a favor and see what has changed to the C30 (your setup) because of those last changes in physics? I'm using it in an online league. :D Pretty good car by the way, I'm loving driving it!

My Lolvo? I haven't driven it since the FF shootout and it never got updated for Spec 2. Whatever it drives like now is not what it drove like last year.

Oh I won't be taking it off my Volvo.

It drives good, I can tell you that. Would you like a review for it? Since I'm not doing nothing.

Nothing really formal, but the Lolvo is suffering from understeer in the entry and the middle of the turns. I can minimize the understeer on the entry and in the middle by reducing much of the speed of the car... 1:33.742 was the best I could do, it was a perfect lap to say the reality.

As soon as my TV arrives I think it's novelty tune time...anyone wanna drive the legendary StanceJag?

Oh MAH GODD!! RKM IZ BACK!!! HURRY, WHERE'S TEH CONFETTI?!

But didn't someone say that they aren't going to post any tunes now that they are worn from it? :P Good to have you back…even if it's just for this 86 facsimile. :P

So it has gotten a bit worse over the past year then. I remember the brakes on it being terrible but the overall handling was pretty good for an FF. At least you got a 1337 lap time. :D

You need to give me the camber settings so I can go and stance my own XKR.

I didn't post a tune, the tune posted itself. :dopey:
Congats on being featured as the tune of the week in the news section of GT Planet.

Thank you! I didn't even see that until I read your post. That's made my day. :D

Tuner Comments:
The BRZ is like the GT86's more civilised, grown up brother. Not only is it different in appearance, but there's a few parts under the skin that are different too. As a result, it behaves differently than the GT86 and FR-S even with the same settings. Because of that, our BRZ ended up requiring a slightly tweaked version of the GT86/FR-S setup.

Do you have a lap time for this tune mate?

Do you have a lap time for this tune mate?

The only track I drove the BRZ hard at was Trial Mountain and my lap time there was 1:32.5 with my rusty driving. I've had 1:31 with the GT86/FR-S so the BRZ could go a bit faster still.

Any ideas on where to change or what to change to make most or all the understeer go away?

I believe she runs a 5/7 camber, although I could well be wrong...I know there have been a few paintjob revisions since my last retune

Honestly, nope. Everything I'd normally do to dial the understeer out has already been done to that car.

That's a lot of camber.

Might be 7.5 at the rear...all I know is on S3s it's surprisingly stable unless you plant it and let the supercharger kill you

If you use too much camber,it make the car jump around the nurburgring

…not that she, or anyone who uses the stance camber for looks, would really care. To be honest.

It's not just for looks, although it looks better than 99% of the photoshopped stance crap I see...

The stanceJag is a troll car, nobody expects it to fly off in a cloud of tyre smoke and not pummel the nearest wall

Nice to see that RKM has made another tune after what's felt like forever. 👍 And yes, I do want to drive the Stance Jag.

Damn straight ya do! :D I'll see about getting stuff like my FTO and maybe the SP1R

Thanks guys and turtle. :D:tup:

Also don't take this as me coming back or anything, I'm just having a bit of fun with the game again. :D

Quick reply of the BR-Z RS. Not played as much lately as a while ago but try getting some time in each week now and wanted to give some of your newer tunes a try :)

At any rate, the 500PP category now being thoroughly familiar to me (good return on investment in terms of credits / minute played) I took the Subaru to R246, CRP and TM to see how it works and of course how it compares to some other 500PP machinery.

Turns out the little Scooby is lively for a start, with a fairly darty front end and good levels of grip at the front, with the grip at the rear really being in your hands - a hooligan throttle application will get it to play but it is all fairly benign and delivered in a playful rather than willful fashion.

I found the car to be a fairly good alround tune, with it perhaps (surprise surprise ;)) working best at TM. This is not to say that any weaknesses were apparent at other tracks, only that the times managed there in my hands lagged least behind the best I manage to squeeze out of a 500PP car :)

Two more comments - I guess the tune was intended without the first oil change (was not mentioned, to be fair), as it comes out at ca. 504PP with, and I did not manage to get the first three ratios to match yours irrespective of how often I reset the gearbox or what order I did it all in (4 to 6 worked fine).

So overall one of the easier ways of propelling 500PP of FR metal around, with excellent levels of grip overall, solid acceleration in spite of the small, not exactly torque imbued engine, and a lightly playful rear end for when you are in the mood. What's not to like? 👍

Welcome back to the reviewing stage! :D

The BRZ is pretty much a GT86 with a bit of extra rear grip, so when it decides it wants to play, it does it without putting you into a mad spin. I'm the same way, my times around other tracks are average, but I can go pretty hard at Trial Mountain to the majority of my tunes do their best there too.

It was intended without an oil change, but changing the oil doesn't harm it any. The ratios shouldn't be affected by oil in any case. Were you using a different exhaust perhaps?

Hey, I tune Hondas, a lack of torque is not an issue for me. :dopey: Thanks for the review! :D

And one of the VIP Odyssey. I have long been intrigued by the idea of tuning the life out of the truly unlikely candidate. At 485PP it comes in practically at the same level as a lightly breathed on R32 from another tuning outfit, which makes an interesting point of comparison.

First of all the looks - properly lowered and painted it actually looks as good as any MPV available in the game (I suppose they are a rare breed anyway). The driving is the larger surprise. Acceleration is pretty solid, especially up to 200kmh, after which the barndoor aerodynamics start kicking in to make further speed gains more leisurely.

In terms of handling the first characteristics is security - i.e. the car is pretty much unflappable. So secure braking, a well tied down rear end, no nasty surprises when clipping a kerb or so. The front end grip is of course finite, so the car will eventually wash out at the front in faster corners. If you have plenty of space and are not fully committed, a nailing of the throttle will eventually tuck it in somewhat, otherwise easing off is the solution (so far so predictable).

So just a brief comparison to a similarly well endowed AWD car from Nissan. Given that it is a van, the PP equations endow it with a better P/W for the same PP, giving it a stronger accelleration (after 200kmh the situation reverses). The front grip would be weaker, handling otherwise relatively similar. In terms of times, I managed laps about 1 second down on the R32 on R246, which is very respectable for a glorified grocery getter :D

So overall a car that can run with others in its PP class, will easily win the 530PP AWD seasonals (even though it needs SH tyres there), and will not fling you into a wall all day long. So apat from a slightly higher laptimes than achievable at the PP level, you will hardly be making sacrifices for the looks - and you can take six more like minded nutters with you while doing so ;)

Thanks for giving the Odyssey a review! 👍

My first and really only problem when tuning the Odyssey was dealing with that 5-speed gearbox. I had to keep first gear short to give the car a great launch off the line so I lost a lot of potential top speed there. A 6-speed gearbox would've made things easier.

I'm surprised it can stick to an R32. Not bad for a van with no trick differentials eh? :sly:
