RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Hey guys! :dopey: Couple of questions if I may...

  • The tune for the Golf V GTI [Birdie RTI], will it work on a Scirocco?
  • In some tunes, mainly, the EVO VI [Empreror VI], I am unable to set the gearbox according to the recommended values. Obviously I set the top speed first, and it has worked for many others. However, this particular one doesn't seam to be working. Any reason why?

Thanks for all the hard work. I will keep applying your fantastic work into my cars. 👍

Nope. The Scirocco needs radically different settings than the Golf and most other FF's I've seen. I do have Scirocco settings somewhere but they'll need a polish before I post them.

Either you are not using the exact same engine parts (yes, that affects what gear ratios you can have) or an update has messed things up. I'll have a look when I can and get back to you.

I see. That was my initial thought. I will await for that tune then.
Does your policy of review=tune request still applies? If so, there's plenty of tunes that I'd like to review! :sly: (I've been applying several RKM tunes into my cars lately.)

Indeed that was the issue. It seams that I accidentally installed the titanium racing exhaust instead of leaving it stock as the tune requires. My mistake. Will pay more attention next time. ;)

Thanks for the review ^..^ I do love the slower FR cars, they're worth a try for practising

As promised, managed to find an extra 10 minutes this morning, and the BMW turned out to be good enough for a win at the 500PP R246 seasonal, too. One has to say here that this came with the TVR Griff starting from pole (the feat would have been a lot harder with a Shelby SC One or a Lotus Esprit leading from the start) 👍

Will definitely check your other slower FR cars when I get the time :)

Sorta, kinda, maybe. The only person who takes requests is Dragonthing now, since I'm hardly doing this anymore and RJ's PS3 is still derpy. :dopey:

Yeah, common mistake. It doesn't harm the tune any if the gear ratios are out by 0.100 but if you want an exact replica then yeah. :D

Also how much power does your Scirocco have? My one has 400bhp so I don't think these settings will do you much good if you only have 300bhp or something. I'll just build another Scirocco with similar horsepower to yours. 👍

Man, this reminds me of how much fun the Scirocco is. I would drive it but my PS3 decided it would like to be like RJ's and is pretty useless right now.

If you had noticed that I've pretty much only been playing counter strike or signing in and right out lately it's because the Blu Ray laser died on me and I can only play downloaded games or PS2 games. I don't think RJ's has the same problem if I remember correctly, but it's still a paperweight right now.

I ordered a laser and tried to fix it but now even though the laser itself works, the casing that surrounds it is all screwed up too so when I put a disc in it wouldn't spin the disc.

Now I need to wait a week or so to get the new part and try and swap it in. :ouch:

Still, even though this is the second time the laser has burnt out I've had it for nearly four years and it hasn't YLOD'ed on me yet, so there's that.

*Sigh* I miss GT5. :nervous:

Someone do me a favor and put a few extra miles on that new Vette for me. :sly:

You could've just downloaded GT5 off the store. You would have to pay for it again but still...

That's a good idea, and I would do that if I was an only child. But, I'm not, and my brother would flip out and do whatever is in his power to make me miserable. Trust me, he's got waaayyy more power than any eleven year old should have. :grumpy:

If he didn't get to play those awful FPS games (CS doesn't count, CS is fun ) he would push me down a flight of stairs. For the second time.

The Scirocco really is fun to drive. Best handling FF (bar the racing models) for sure. :D

Sucks about your PS3. :scared:

I put 4.7 miles on my C7 for you. Happy?

Fair enough. 👍
Recently I decided to apply most of RKM tunes (especially yours) into my cars in GT5. If I like the car, and the PP fits the seasonal events that I want to complete, I simply apply the tune.

The tune for the 106 was perfect for a few. Brilliant is not enough to describe just how great that tune is, and still keeps the PP low enough for some good money.

My Scirocco is just over the 400bhp. I want to drive it, but without a decent tune, it's just too much power for two wheels to handle.

I know the feeling all too well. I wish you the best, and that you can hop back into GT5 soon enough. 👍

I spent a lot of time making the 106 seasonal-proof, so I'm glad it's working for you there. :D

Perfect. I'll keep working on mine then until it's polished enough to see your face in the paint. :dopey: It is too much power but if you have even the slightest bit of throttle control, it won't be an issue and the Scirocco's handling will shine through.

Now, I need to judge interest...I finish work at midnight, and I have vodka waiting for me at home...do I load up GT5 and post a tune or fire up NFS Carbon or maybe Oblivion o..o

GT5 so we can go cruising. I wanna see what names KiroKai will call me today.

who ever did the purple devil z tune thank you so much but i took your write up as a challenge and i clocked over 300 khm :) the devil z is alive

i crashed shortly after.....true story

I don't want to admit that I made that tune, I'm scared you'll come after me with a lawsuit.

Quick question: On a few occasions while trying out some of your tunes, some of the gear ratios don't completely match up. For example...it might say to change 1st gear to something like 3.101, but I can't go any lower than 3.356. I have the Fully Customizable Transmission and the PP and HP are the same. Am I missing something? Have you heard of this happening before or am I crazy? Well, I may be crazy sometimes, but not now...haha. If this has been asked before, I apologize, but I can't seem to find any definitive answers in the Forum. Thank you in advance.

P.S. Your tunes are very nice, even with the transmission confusion. You have let me start turning off the aids and I can see myself getting better.

Something to try before setting the transmission to the advertised number.

1. Set to Default
2. Set Top Speed to lowest possible value
3. Set Gear ratios
4. Set Final

If that doesn't work try;
1. Set to Default
2. Set Final to highest value
3. Set Gear ratios
4. Set Final

If this one doesn't get you there try;

1. Set to Default
2. Set Final to highest
3. Set top speed to lowest
4. Set Gear ratios
5. Set Final

If that still doesn't get you there;

1. Set to Default
2. Set Top Speed to lowest value
3. Set Final to some value
a. check gear ratios to see if they can hit targets.
b. if one or more gears will not hit target adjust Final one way or the other until they will.
c. I find this method also requires the top speed slider to be bumped to the right then back to lowest to get the gear ratio value ranges to change.
4. Set Gear ratios
5. Set Final

If none of the above works then you will have to fiddle with the final and top speed sliders until they will.

The thing to keep in mind is, the range for the final gear and top speed is fixed and effects the range of the transmission gears. Final gear being the differential(s) and the top speed slider just a way for us less than educated tuners to set a transmission to a different set of ratios without spending a lot of time testing.

Hope this helps.

I heard a rumor that changing the rims from stock to aftermarket will change gear ratios. Is there any truth to that?

Been there buddy...here's what I was recommended to do.

Either you are not using the exact same engine parts (yes, that affects what gear ratios you can have) or an update has messed things up. I'll have a look when I can and get back to you.

It's very easy to assume that a certain tune would include a part that you would normally install. Double check that you have the exact parts so that the tune can match.

Yeah as Deko Wolf quoted, it's the actual engine parts you install that affect the gear ratio ranges.

And thank you! Glad to see our tunes are helping you improve your driving too. 👍

Very nice information there. 👍
I heard a rumor that changing the rims from stock to aftermarket will change gear ratios. Is there any truth to that?
There's no truth to that, but on certain cars, changing the wheels will make it slightly (literally like 0.001 seconds) slower or faster in a straight line. I believe there's a thread in the Drag Forum with more detailed findings.

Been using RKM tunes for various cars and various purposes since I started online racing last Feb. Had some problems hitting the transmission numbers back then and after many hit and misses and some help from the likes of the folks at PURE, CSLACR and Owensracing, have arrived at that process to hit the necessary marks. That is provided all else is equal with the rest of the car. Sometimes, even if all else isn't equal, I've been able to hit the tranny marks with that process.

CSLACR gave me this as a general rule for setting up trannies;

CSLACR
"1st gear: Longer (Usually within 200 clicks of far left)
2nd: depends on first, if first was moved all the way left, 2nd will go about 100 clicks left, if first is shorter, 2nd will be shorter as well.
3rd: Almost always quicker, in the event of a long 2nd 3rd will stay put, usually 50-100 clicks right.
4th: Move until it shows on the graph as beginning at a slightly higher rpm than 3rd.
5th/6th: A little quicker than fourth.
6th/7th: Depends on the power band, if it's narrow the gears need to be specific for top speed, if it's wide I just set it as long (equal on graph) as the gear before it and make sure the car has enough gearing to run most any track."

I have never not gone faster with an RKM tune applied to a car.

Mhm. If only I had that magic gear ratio formula that could convert gear ratios from a light tune to work with a max tune. Someone in here had it but it was too confusing to understand at the time.
You guys could use this as a customer testimonial 👍
We totally could. Even if the tune is faster by 0.001 it'd still be true.

LOL. RKM tunes, faster by just .001? Over stock or anything I ever scabbed together, RKM tunes were always 2+ full seconds faster.

Whenever I use Adrenaline's site to hunt up a tune, RKM and CSLACR are the links I hope to see.
