Road going rally cars.

Bit off topic but why did Nissan never enter the Skyline GTR in the WRC? Would've been a close contest in my opinion.

The Impreza RM ends up looking like a rally car aswell, and PD class it as a different car.

Cool thread but perhaps needs some separation? There are few true "homologation" road versions of rally cars in GT5, off the top of my head these are:

Renault 5 Maxi Turbo
Peugeot 205 Turbo 16
Ford RS200
Lancia Stratos
Lancia Delta S4 (road version not present in GT5)

As far as I know, the rest listed by the OP were road cars first, as the old 500 model homologation rules kinda faded out when Group B rally was banned, but i'm happy to be corrected!

The "other" Lancia Delta rally car in GT5 was based on the production Delta. There was however another Delta rally car called the 037, of which there was a limited production run also, and I wish either or both of these was in GT5 as it is a beautiful car!

As for the Quattro, I think the road version in GT5 was a model in its own right. There was a shorter wheelbase rally car called the Sport Quattro, of which again a limited production run was made, and had around 300hp (there is a nice Fifth Gear clip on youtube of this racing a Lancer) but the version in GT5 is the more sedate longer wheelbase version with around 100 less horses.

I'm not sure how accurate the comparisons are since group B days, or indeed before (the old Lancer rally cars etc) as I think the rally cars were simply based on their road-legal counterparts.

Oh yeah weird exception to all this is the Mitsubishi Starion rally car, as far as I can see it was developed for Group B rally but the class was banned before they had a chance to compete and offer a road-legal version. There are of course other rather different looking versions of the Starion made for the road, shame PD didn't include one of these as they were cool cars, fairly popular here in the UK and some interesting styling.

as stupid as its going to sound, any car that can equip dirt/snow tires in this game is in face, a road-going rally car of sorts. so i believe at some point, mazdas, hondas, toyotas, chevys, any car- was or is a rally car. soo play around with em all ;D

so you're going to tell me that the older fiat 500 premium is a rally car, a car not able to go up the hills on the Eiger courses. ;)

I was thinking of doing something like that, but to be honest i couldn't be bothered to do so, but since now someone else suggested it, maybe i will, but not at the moment.

Yeah there were a few rally versions of the original Cinquecento, some of which seemed to have the engine hanging out the butt, but where else could it go?

Youre missing a hyundai coupe/tiburon from the list! No idea when it raced, but there was an officail works car in V-Rally 2. 👍
