I'll just quote what I got for myself and family. Thanks to the gift card for the controller my entire Christmas spend was only $48. Perfect thing about the controller is that it has two options for controller input settings. One for modern games that support controllers or the other to let you configure keyboard keys to the controller.

Thanks to a best buy card I got last Christmas I only had to pay $1.74 in sales tax for this Logitech F310 gamepad.

I also got some other stuff for Christmas to gift to my parents and my brother. Bought 3 12" Olive wooden stirring spoons for my mother(one even doubles as a spatula!), 3 car door panel removal tools for my father, and a 9-In-1 Emergency Tool with Hammer, Flashlight, Seatbelt Cutter & Screwdrivers for my brother. In total $46.

I got a pair of those Logitec controls free from a friend, though, I think mine are a previous generation of them but I do agree they are good controllers, especially for mapping a keyboard as I can't play Counter Strike with a keyboard. Also work with some PS3 games but functions are limited.

All I want for Christmas is...

Build your own engine kit. I'd love to know how engines work, so this would be a nice start.

I built one of those years ago with my son! :D Ours was a Haynes one as well. If I remember right there are little bulbs for spark plugs.

My granddad bought me a second hand lawnmower when I asked to learn about engines as a kid. Never did get it running. :(

Of course it was! It'll give you a good idea of how a real engine is put together as well. I can't remember if it was OHC or push rod though.

Now that sounds like a great gift. 👍

Thanks. Not too expensive either since we're splitting them both. The attitude we take with gifts is that experiences > materials.

For £25 I'm really tempted to just buy it for myself.

I never want anything for Christmas; this is the first one since I was 13 that I've actually wanted something.

Just bought an epic gift for my grandma:

It will be quite the talk piece of the Christmas dinner at grandma's.

Nope. They are 3.25" stamped leather coasters for your drinks. They are made of some really thick leather so I bet it will last a long time. There are businesses out there that will allow you to make your own custom designs but I found this on ebay.

.................. what are you buying for your friends or relatives?

A variety of items; watches, chocolates, toys, tools, videogames, movies, books, a tablet, a camera, etc. I usually start around the end of November, and try to have it all done by the second week of December.

What are you wishing for from the fat bloke in a red doublet and unshaven face?

I am he.

How will you spend that special day celebrated by half of the world?

With family, counting my blessings, and happy that humans are intelligent enough to still have days where we actually have to shut down everything and enjoy what we are working for, with whom we are working for.

Me, I'm a bit stuck for ideas. I'll be trying to get a new iPhone for Mrs Shem because despite my negativity towards it she's made up her mind. I'm sure I'll find something else nice for her too.

No Galaxy III? Latest trend, you know . . .

.................. I really don't want anything, but a nice block of cheese and a bottle of Jameson's wouldn't be frowned upon ................Bring it on!

So, how about it?

Time to treat yourself to some Black Bush, instead, Shemmy? I myself will ususally treat myself to a more expensive bottle that I usually cannot afford to drink as a staple. Maybe some 18 Yr old Single Malt, or a good Cognac.

I make sure I treat myself well at the end of the year. Many of us work long hard hours - or even, may be bound to a wheelchair, unable to do that and instead are trapped hour upon hour to that seat - either way, one needs reward themselves now and then with no guilt attached to the happiness whatsoever.

Take the time to spoil yourself - and if you have something left over -spoil someone else (or many), too.

Some good gift ideas in here already - and I do hope all wishes made come true - esp the non-material ones. They say there's magic in the air.. . . . 👍

Cheers
Harry.

Well I just spoiled myself with a binary watch for $12.

I don't care! I've been a geek for 5 years and still I don't own one! It's about time and it's something that you can easily make sense of.

I'd personally take anything in the Bushmill's lineup over Jameson. Treat yourself to a nice bottle of 21 year if you can. It's sooo good. :)

I do like a Bushmills but it's become a sort of habit that I get bought a bottle of Jameson's for Xmas. Also, only 6 weeks to go!

I don't know what I'll be gifting. My family isn't really big on gifts, so there's none expected. If I see something cool or good, I'll pick it up. If not, then meh. :indiff:

I may be giving a couple of members on here Premium though, as I think they deserve it.

As for me, I'm not expecting anything for myself.

Girlfriend and I bought each other tickets to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert and a trip to Yosemite National Park in December. 👍
My uncle has seen them live, said they were great. Grandfather lives real close to Yosemite, its very pretty there.

I like it!

Not planning on buying yourself anything, Crash?

Ehh, I'll probably buy a new pair of shoes and some pants I guess, but other than that, I have nothing specific for Christmas. I just buy stuff when it makes sense to do so?

Also, discretionary purchases partly depend on how much money I anticipate I need to sink in my car in the near future.

Mine mainly consists of Ken Block merchendise, amongst other things like... Hoonigan merchendise, and... DC clothing, and... Ford WRT merchendise, even though they're pulling out. Also looking for a decent drifting R/C car, and a BMX, and, basically, a lot of stuff.

Luckily for me, my Christmas wishlist is also split into my birthday wishlist, as my day of birth is exatcly a month before Christmas day. :P

Like most of the time - I don't need/'want' anything.

However, I know I'm getting a 3DS XL with Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 64 for it.
So, I'll spend a-lot of time doing some awesome nostalgic gaming!

My main concern is I haven't got much money for gift giving to my friends. I'll either have to dig into my accounts or go on a 'hitting streak' with finding 50 pound notes in the middle of the street

Easy solution: home-made gift. Seriously, just go online and search; they're cheap, simple and often better than a bought pressie. Try this perhaps: Take a photo of your face with a big smile or some silly look on it, put it onto a PC, edit it to look monotone black and white (it's really easy*), print it out, cut out the black bits to make a stencil, spray paint onto a plain t-shirt. Bingo.

In fact, I might do a few myself.

Here's one I made earlier...yes, this is me, it took about 10 minutes to make.

$12? That's pretty damn good, nice watch.

Parents are getting me a load of band t-shirts I think, I'll just end up getting money off most other people; suits me.

Well I started off with a $50 budget(which is 31 pounds for you) for the household. I held it at $46 with free shipping for my mother(3 wooden stirring spoons imported from the UK. The spoons were $8 each), father(Car panel removal tool kit for $12. My dad is too cheap to buy special tools so it's a good gift), and brother(flashlight that's also has various tools to get out of a crashed car. Cost $10).

I also bought those leather coasters for my grandma for $20 with shipping. It made the budget go over but that's fine since I can afford spending an extra $20.

I bought the watch from buy.com. That price included shipping since the watch sold for $9. Amazing how cheap these things can be.

I found a website that sells gadgets for cheap. Click. Spread the cheap holiday cheer! You can find all sort of cool led watches for cheaper than amazon. Only thing that you would have to deal with is 7-15 day shipping time.

I really shouldn't be buying any more in general for the next 4 months... I've been spending about $400 on diecast cars in the past few months like a lottery winner.

but if I was to make a Wishlist, I'd want more hot wheels, a hurdle of crustaceans for my aquarium, I'd want someone to buy a certain figurine off me, and most of all, time and motivation to clear up my to-do list which includes painting a bunch of Hot Wheels, drawing, building foamboard trays, and completing the rest of my hobby projects.

I'm quite lucky that I live in China with regards to Christmas, there are tons of things I can buy for cheap that make good gifts.
