How important is the inclusion of rollover physics in Gran Turismo 5 to you ?

Subject seems to have been slightly overshadowed by people's release date expectations.

Just wondered If we could have some sort of discussion as to the impacts of this into GT5.
I'ts not clear if it's on every car or just as yet un-specified models so let's leave that discussion untill its fact.

Ok, so hypothetically if it's in it will mean that forces are calculated that would lead the car into the roll over, maybe this could mean wind speeds factored as well as the impacting forces. Hopefully we will see tyre's lifting off the ground on extremley hard turn in's for example. Possibilities are magical anyone else feel so?

It is intriguing.

I must say I am kinda bummed to only hear about it and not see it in PD's presentation. IMHO, they really should've walked us through some of the key points of their presentation.

But I digress.

If the cars can indeed go end-over-end, I'm curious if things like this would be possible...

For licensed race cars? Definitely possible. For licensed production cars? Absolutely not!

Yes, I think this announcement has been maybe overlooked by some, but not by me.:) Seeing the list of features coming include things like "new physics", "vehicular rollover" made me nearly fall over.

The effect of a freed-up car physics-wise should change the the whole feel alot I would imagine. Perhaps cars would then bounce around bumps and curbs more realisticaly. Landing from a jump might be a bit more violent etc.

This is only something you'd have to worry about if you were driving a 911 GT1 or a Mercedes CLR. ;)

Either way, I'm so happy rollover is in. Been wanting it for years, even more than damage.

🤬 the damage, at least rollover is in. :) At least cars won't behave as stupid as this Toyota Estima in Enthusia:

Why not? Like damage, other games seem to be able to do it so PD can surely do, and 100X better at that.

I have played the Forza 3 Demo and I think that is the extent of the damage any developer can do. The airborn and flipping part is okay but the damage would never be approved by car manufacturers.

If rollovers will let us finally, finally do three-wheeling around corners... then bloody hell, it's the most important feature in the world.

Sorry, that's my emotions :) I mean, if rollover is included, the damage problem is not very sharp for me :)

As long as the cars dont roll over to easily then yes it will be a good addition, I hope they also the model the undersides well.

It's a good thing to add, I think this will make for a better drivers. In the real world part of the skill in making a turn is getting slowed down enough to avoid rolling over. :)

True, but if you can push a car like a Vette or an M5 to rollover through cornering, you at least deserve a medal.

I remember watching a "making of" for Casino Royale...

They thought that it would be childsplay to roll the DBS with a decent stunt driver and some persuasion...

After several attempts they gave up and fitted a hydraulic ram that fired out of the bottom and rolled the car for them...

In summary - you're right - to roll most cars is a very hard job... without hitting a wall/bank etc that is.

I would Love to see my car roll over a couple of times...I can really see where GT's future is headed from here on. By then, I don't really think that there will be any other racing game that can really beat Gran Turismo.
