my roommate and I drove up to pick up his Supra about a week and a half ago. The parts started pouring in immediately. Right now he's just waiting on the Greddy 4 row which will be here today (Saturday), everything else is here though. He's looking for around 720hp running a high stall, built tranny, stock engine and the fuel management. We bolted the setup together really quick and snapped a few pictures of it in the garage with it on jackstands. Sorry, I'm no photographer, just have a little point and shoot:

That is a really really sweet looking part.. They just look "right" !....

And you can just tell that exhaust (not quoted) is purposeful compared to the stock part... And Sweet pics for a point and click camera !....

Can someone explain to me the logic behind Toyota's original exhaust design?

How is that more beneficial than a single pipe? Does the fork-and-merge act like an X-pipe on cars with duals for cylinder scavanging?

Noise and Pollution... Toyota has to follow those whereas aftermarket producers of exhaust can do, more or less, as they want. If you get pulled for a too loud aftermarket exhaust, it's YOUR fault, not the makers of the exhaust...

Toyota has to obey the rules to get the car approved, aftermarket exhaust makers don't - They're free to search for horsepower and noise as they like..

The 2JZ is bulletproof till well past 1000hp. For longetivity and reliability you would want a built motor at that power level (1000)

It's a common cheap upgrade for some cars to use a Supra pump, apparently it's comparable to a Walbro intank...

Toyota really did their homework when it came to the 2JZ/JZA80.

That's whats left of my roomie's MR2. He was making around 550hp on a completely built motor, GT35R turbo, full race manifolds, etc. It was a really nice setup. He ran a mid 11 second pass with it on pump gas, it was capable of 10's. He had it set up for road courses too so it can go straight and take turns really well. He's still got most of it but I'm sure he's going to end up parting everything pretty soon.

he will be running stock internals on this setup. I'd give it until the spring before he builds it and switches turbo setups, they never last long (last meaning they aren't on there for long, not that they break). Not sure what boost he'll be running.

he just parted out his EK hatch, it had a K24 (TSX motor) in it, full CTR interior and exterior (excluding RHD), Tein coilovers, etc. etc. etc. He's going to get a truck I believe and the Supra will be the track car. I'm sure it can be a daily though, guys with much more HP can run them on the streets all day long, just set the boost low and everything else and you should be fine.

he's running a MAP ECU, he's also got an AEM wideband to help him make sure everything is how it's supposed to be.

Bad car Jester, big single Supras are awesome. Your roomie must have the shortest attention span ever, having been though a 550hp MR2, K24 EK Civic and now onto a 700hp+ Supra.

The SP GT800 kit uses a Garrett GT40-63 turbo, which is a 63mm compressor wheel turbo. Its basically a slightly smaller version of the GT40-67 that is very popular. The 67s can very easily hit 700hp on 2JZ engines, so I would think with proper tuning, this 63 should hit that number as well.

Good question, I was about to ask that and what his room mate does for a living in order to find the time and money for all these cars.

I'm 22, a college student, waiter, about to be a sales rep at a Sprint store. He's 19, ASE certified mechanic, currently works out of the house until he opens up his shop but he's got people lined up waiting for him to work on their cars. We get a lot of traffic coming in and out of the house. After rent, car payments, insurance, and all that other good stuff we've still got plenty of money to spend so we throw a bit into the cars. Neither of our parents are helping finance anything so it's just working and earning it. We're not just barely getting by or anything like that at all, we're doing just fine. I'm getting rid of my S2000 pretty soon and probably picking up a Supra as well before spring hits, if I can find something decent that is.

it's a custom turbo, I think I remember them calling it a GT65, it's a little bigger than a GT40. To be honest I'm not sure of the specs on it. The intercooler is Greddy 4-row, I looked up the dimensions on it and it says it's 24 x 12 x 5, pretty damn thick.

Well, then it might not be the GT800 kit. The GT800 comes with the GT40-63 turbo. And, I've never heard of a GT65. Who knows. Its a big turbo, whatever it is. Try and find out, so we can know for sure.
