anyone sniffing 39 want to throw me your splits?
best i've seen are:

26.156, 24.512, 20.197, 16.694, 12.925
That's still only a 1'40.484 if I can get them to happen on the same lap.

I am officially irritated. I put down a 1:42.4 right off the bat and thought I was off to a good start and would hit 1:41 no problem and 1:40 by the end of the night. Now I can't improve off that. I did some laps that matched it and they felt clean so now I am at a big WTF dude?! moment.

Seriously though I must be taking one corner completely wrong to lose two seconds. I don't know wtf is happening here, I have never been this far back off pace. Is there something that is happening in one of these turns that I am completely blowing it on?

Now is the time I would ask for a replay, because honestly I just got stumped, I dont know wtf I am doing to lose 2+ seconds on this track.

Same boat for me. The first turn is kind of hard to determine the braking zone. And honestly, it's not just one turn I'm off the pace at. All of the turns add up to 2+ off the top time.

For the braking zone, keep an eye on the catch fence. There's some black thing that stands out, kind of looks like a camera? Anyway, I hit the brakes hard when I get right to that thing, let the RPM's fall pretty low to help slow the car down, then quickly shift into 3rd for the first two corners. Throttle input is key here as too much when traveling over the transition from the oval to the infield upsets the car.

Another tip, I never shift lower than 3rd gear for the entire lap.

I brake at the first light (at least i think its a light) on the fence (to your left) that i see after i max out the last gear.

I just tried that and the car was bogging like crazy going through the double hairpins.

Yeah i cant imagine 3rd on the double hairpins. I do the first one in first then the second one in second. Sometimes i do them both in second. It depends what kind of angle i get going into the first one.

Works for me and I've got a 40.6xx posted. :sly:

I think we're talking about the same thing.

Yeah, didnt notice your post. Kinda funny how we use the same exact thing for a braking point. That thing looked like one of the caution lights that they put on the fence at allot of tracks. I was struggling at first to find something to use and that was the only thing i could find at the right spot.

Yeah, it's in exactly the right spot. Any later and you overshoot the corner a bit.

I use third for the hairpins also. The car has enough torque to pull off the corners nicely without having to worry too much about throttle control. First gear seems a little too outrageous to use on any part of Indy.

Why not 2nd though??? That seems like it should be the best choice. Not saying it is but just seems the most appropriate.

yeah i think its a camera, what ive actually tried doing is braking slightly after the camera and letting slowly off the brake while turning in, if you time it right, once your right tire touches the rumblestrip(or gets close) accel out. it comes out of t1 smoother and keeps you level for t2. i cant do it everytime, but when i have, ive lost .2 seconds off the first sector.

also im pretty sure i only got my time sub 1:40 because my right tire accidentally hit dirt while braking into turn 8, i went sideways in 3rd and came out ahead of my ghost LOL

How is everyone taking turn 4? This is the one turn I cannot nail consistently.
I've found slowing down early and rotating the car for a late apex to be the best way to handle turn 4, but I'm not exactly quick here at Indy so take that for what you will. I'd be interested to know how others take it.

Turn 7 has been the most difficult corner for me to come to terms with. I hate the way these rounded curbs push the car to the outside.

You guys dont drop to first on t9 or t10? How about T11 you guys stay in third or drop to second real quick? I also use that camera as a braking point. But i drop to 2nd and do find myself over reving so mabey i should just keep it in third. just feel like turn 2 is tough in third unless you have a good transition from one. I got a 1.41.001 today and i know i an do faster beause i was beating it but .2xx at a split at one point. Just need to race in the morning while im fresh. i get sloppy the later in the day it is

That sounds right. I'd add going way outside before turning in, too. 👍
Oh, almost forgot, don't lift until turn 6. :D

But TimeAttack obviously knows best.

Second gear should only be used in turn 9 and 10 IF you want. I stay in 3rd to help keep wheel spin down. Ditto with T1.

Stuck at 1:40.9. This place is going to make or break me. Weirdly, my Eifel time is solid and I know I can get another .3 seconds at least, a lot easier than getting it at Indy. The hairpins are kicking my ass.

Timeattack is blowing up Indy dang, and I'm with vega on Indy breaking me or making me. I'm finally starting to get comfortable with Eifel but just cant get the car round indy like it should.

Any of the top 5-10 share splits?

That's exactly how I started getting my T1's down into the 26.1's.
Brake full from between the camera thing and the 150 then ease off right before that while line across the road trail braking down to the kerb.
Best laps always involve putting a wheel over the kerb just inside the tire barrier, don't have to go below 60-62mph through there with that line.
I feel like I'm getting boned in T2... around turn 6.

It's official - I hate Indy.

On my personal best, I screwed up T6 and T7 but absolutely nailed T11 and posted a 1:41.058. The only problem is, I have no idea how I carried so much speed through T11. I've tried everything and can't get back to where I was. After some practice, I'm consistently ahead by 0.25s going into T8, but my ghost always passes me through T11. How the hell am I losing 0.25s through that corner?

How soon are you guys getting back on full throttle? If I get on the throttle soon to stay ahead of my ghost, I end up in the grass or the rear steps out and I get passed anyway. If I wait to get on the throttle, then my ghost just blasts past me.

I've just about had it with Indy. There is more time to be gained at Eifel anyway.

EDIT: Just went back to Eifel and beat my previous best after only 5 laps. :D Hopefully I'll be able to see what I'm missing in turn 11 at Indy after a short break.

TimeAttack is still sitting at a 1:40.044. I'm in at a 1:40.465 right now.

Edit: Tree'd.

Thanks, that's flying there. I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve there but know that it's an uphill battle vs. the guys that have a ton of time on the track. I'm just targeting a 40.4 and hope to really lay the hammer down in Eifel, which I'm loving at the moment and have already done splits for a time that is, well....ridiculously fast. :)

Any top guys courageous enough to share splits?

I see that 26.1 is a pretty good time through the first sector...my quickest has been a 26.5 which I believe turn 1 is to blame for that. Hanging onto a 1.41.797 atm.
