Nationalism natural drifting to the cult of its most prominent incarnation. It works well in western country too, to a lesser extent. And in US where it's concerning... And it ends to war.

Edit: rewriting
If you think it's incomprehensible why so many Russians people still support Putin after all these years, consider that they are bombarded with a constant stream of pro-Putin misinformation. In the US there is a much more active free press & access to a great variety of information, yet some 40% of the population believes completely unfounded theories about the election being "stolen", Covid as a gigantic hoax, that the Democrats are "communists" etc.

1)Videos of captured conscripts in Ukraine

2)Putin: no conscripts in Ukraine

3)MoD: there were conscripts in Ukraine, Putin doesn't know about them

TB
1) You'd have thought that after the first two times they invaded a country and the ruble value dropped that they'd stop doing that, but you'd be wrong.

2) That is a heck of a correlation between Crimea being annexed in 2014 and Putin's sharp approval rating increase.
Survey participants were mostly positive, and all other choices were mostly thrown out.

Is it true that Russia has prohibited the sale of rubles for foreign currency? If true, the ruble is done. Great job, Putin. You finally brought back the spirit of the Soviet Union.

I'm all for government sanctions on Russia.

I'm also all for private actors withdrawing products and services from Russia, though I may believe the withdrawal of some services inflicts more harm than necessary on the people of Russia and even plays into Putin's hand.

It's ****ing insane, however, to attack* things with the most superficial link to Russia that isn't actually a link to Russia at all. It's "freedom fries" all over again.

*Used in the broadest sense.

I feel like you're holding back some examples. What did you have in mind?

1) You can buy as many as you want, but cant transfer more than 5000$ from country.
2) You cant get more than 10.000$ from currency exchange office in total until 09.09.2022. I dont completely understand, but it seems like you can get $ in cash only if you have that amount pre 09.03.2022.
3) There are BIG problems with cash right now. Like in my bank(Tinkoff) you can get cash only from ATM and right now there are 15.000$ for all city(5+ mil). Bank constantly feeding ATMs, but its obviously not enough.

Hitting a childrens hospital, doubt even the most pro putin supporter can still be for this pointless war anymore.
Thanks God no one was killed.

That's quite disturbing.

I imagine that there has been a been a big run on banks in Russia, with people hoarding as much cash as they can?

Of course this includes actual physical attacks, but some responses don't go that far.

I agree. Putin and his supporters are NOTequal to all Russians. Unfortunately it will become harder and harder for people to distinguish between Putin and Russia as time goes on, unless Putin can be removed.

Heineken have ceased operations in Russia today. I really hope Heineken can reach the Putin other beers cannot reach.

I understand your point.

I still think a petition should be started for Barber Chicken to rebrand their Chicken Kiev as Chicken Kyiv though.

More news around the convoy, wonder if they'll be temporarily abandoning it for warmth.
Russian soldiers who have been stranded in a 40-mile-long armoured military column of tanks and heavy weaponry near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv for days, could soon face freezing conditions.

Already facing sub-zero temperatures during the night, Ukraine is expected to witness a cold snap over the next few days with temperatures dropping to -10C with snowfall.

Temperatures could dip further to -20C on Wednesday because of easterly wind combining with arctic air. Such icy weather situations are expected to make living conditions worse for the Russian army, whose troops remain stuck in the huge convoy of iron tanks that have barely moved and have been bogged down around 19 miles away from the centre of the city.

The tanks would act as huge refrigerators for the Russian army if they are not running the engine and would force them to flee, Glen Grant, a senior defence expert at the Baltic Security Foundation, told Newsweek.

Russian soliders, interview. Nothing interesting from combat point of view, but emotionally heartbreaking.

A former Russian foreign minister claimed that widespread corruption was among the reasons for the Russian military's apparently poor performance in the invasion of Ukraine.

In a Twitter thread over the weekend, Andrey Kozyrev, who served as the foreign minister under President Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s, put forward what he said were misjudgments by President Vladimir Putin in ordering the invasion.

He suggested Putin had overestimated the Russian military — while Putin has dedicated billions of dollars to modernizing Russia's forces, this money, Kozyrev claimed, may have been lost to endemic corruption.

Doesn't really surprise me. One of the more interesting things I've been reading since the war started is the story of Russia's "Ghost Soldiers", where commanders request money for 'x' amount of troops under them, but there's actually much less so they pocket the money.

Sounds like the mega-yachts weren't the worst possible thing that money could have been spent on.
