I suppose they could try to take out Ukrainian formations at the front lines but if you're targeting the front lines with very powerful weapons then you're basically targeting your own soldiers as well.
Yeah, that sounds about right.

Ukraine transferred their nuclear weapons to Russia under the guarantees to respect territorial sovereignty.
Russia said that they don't need anything else after they annexed Crimea and started a conflict in Donbas.
Russia promised that they won't attack and they don't want any wars, but they tore up the Minsk agreements.
Now they are proud that they stole not only land territories but a whole sea, and it's not enough for them.
Putin said that he is open to negotiations, but what to discuss? You can't trust someone who constantly lies and brakes agreement.

Welp, that's one way to guarantee a continued downward spiral.

The airport fire department couldn't put out the fire because the airplane was armed. That's no fun.

I thought he was kind of funny in some tv series about medical interns back in the day (saw a few episodes of that). Just checked him out now and turns out he is just a complete nut job. Apparently he said that he will become president at some point? Hope not, seems like even worse than Putin.

Lyman got liberated by Ukraine.

5k Russian troops either withdrew or surrendered.

One thing for sure they were trapped and the Russian command refused to reinforce while ordering them not to withdraw.

Not a pretty sight

Returning to historical borders? Perhaps it’s time to take back St Petersburg and Kaliningrad then.

Biggest question is, why the EU and US aren't really doing much if anything at all for diplomacy? when you see a quarrel your immediate instinct is to either call the police or try to separate the people fighting, basically end it as soon as possible. But I think we all know why it's yet another crisis that must be prolonged, war is a very profitable business.

Russia does not honour its agreements just after the grain deal was signed the Russians missile striked a port

Has any other state in history, whether internationally recognised or not, ever annexed territory it was actively retreating from?

Yeap, it was great show. As an actor and screenplay writer he is superb. Such a shame that we are in position where he became symbol of aggressive war.

Its because of previous event. De jure, those regions becomes part of RF after Soviet of Federation and our parliament say it is. But there zero chances that Liman would stand for 5 more days.
That seems mostly like a bunch of people just showed up to see what was going on.
Its trick that russian government using since Soviet Union times. Everyone who working for government (teachers, medics, firefighters, etc) should come to rally or would be fired.

Assuming that Prussia is long gone and Finland is now independent state from Sweden it would be hard. I could see Karelia as part of Finland.

RF doesn't have any diplomats. Putin is mad and you can't argue with him.

Nope. De jure its not recognized yet

This isn’t a quarrel, it’s a war. There’s no police to call and no way to separate the people fighting. The only diplomatic solution Putin is interested in at the moment is one where he gets to keep the land he claims to have annexed, and that option is not on the table.

Other people have already answered this so I won't bother to do that, but let me ask you a question instead:

After Russia launched this war by immediately making a beeline for destroying Ukraine's capital on damn near the opposite side of the country before they even rolled into the regions they claimed needed protection from the Ukraine government, why should they?

So Putin has had his Anschluss moment. Let's just skip straight to the Führerbunker moment.
Knowing what happened to the six children of Goebbels in this bunker besides the Hitler's suicide, I'm not eager to see the history repeats itself. This time, a good chunk of humanity could play the role of the children.

Kherson frontline moving as well. Meanwhile, in Russian Z-community we could see typical example of struggle for existence between corrupted bureaucracy and ultraright criminals. Lets hope that they would eat each other alive.

Rumours are coming out that the Cherson front line is collapsing fast too and that a serious number of orcs, 20k, is in danger of being surrounded.

Ukrainians cutting RF forces from Dnepr, they are in few dozens miles from NovoKahovskaya dam. I don't think they would start attack similar to what was done at Izum and Liman, more likely they want to finally cut any possibilities for supply. 20k is still 20k - frontline attack would be too costly.
