About the Russian nuclear sub going to Antarctica - do you think there is going to be a nuclear weapons ''test'' (demonstration) soon? I can't think of any other reason for the sub going there without even trying to be stealthy.
How do you think US and Europe would react to that? And China?

I'd be more concerned about southern hemisphere countries getting annoyed about that as well.

No chance at all Putin needs allies and China / India wont back any of that nonsense. The sabre rattling / petulant moves of sabotage / targeting of civilians with missiles and drones is all he has left in the short term, his mobilisation is his last play. When his own people and treacherous sycophants he surrounds himself turn on him this will be over. The atavistic strategy and greed he is pursuing has blinded him to the present reality. He cant back down, and this is his downfall playing out. In the grand scheme of things he has fallen into a trap, the hawks of the military industrial complex in the west seed wars. Redrawing the boarders of Russia and Ukraine was deliberate to this long term end of stoking conflict. The military industrial complex now gets to sell its wares, and have a country with natural resources laden with debt for a generation to fund the prosperity of some of the most disgusting greed heads on the planet. I don't think its too tin foil hat to say replacing the word "aid" with "debt" explains a whole lot of the long term game here.

I get the feeling that Ukraine would much rather be in debt to the Western nations than be utterly and totally erased from history by Putin.

@inCloud yeah, probably. But given the context of what's going on globally and within the context of Russia's war with Ukraine, anything that Russia does is (justifiably) under a lot of scrutiny.

I mean, keep in mind that most of what RF doing currently was done for ages and most likely was scheduled few years ago without current situation in mind. Keep calm.

Any escalation with strategic weaponry would be lethal for RF, its not an option.
I understand that. I just wanted to mention that with the war ongoing, normal stuff can be seen as suspect. I'm not freaked out by it, just playing a bit of devil's advocate to your point. 👍 How are things looking for Russia's general population right now? Any more protests?

And, to be fair, Putin has (metaphorically and literally) gotten away with murder by making a habit of normalising suspect things, and his regime is also built from the ground up in the art of misinformation, so everything Putin does now really ought to be considered through a different lens. This is most definitely not business as usual.

That said, Russia will clearly still go about it's 'normal' business (though circling the globe with nuclear weapons being 'normal' is a sad fact in and of itself) as well as keeping its adversaries guessing. And I wouldn't trust Putin as far as I could throw him* (presuming no open windows or balconies are involved)

So apparently I missed in early September Russia saying they'd stop all gas flow through Nortstream to Germany. Weeks later it was sabotaged of course. The way this Real Life Lore video explains it at about 5:00 (they're not specifically talking about the sabotage but it put it into context for me) it sounds like it was clear that Russia committed sabotage specifically as a response to the sanctions and to hurt Germany's economy. This is probably about as close to a direct attack on NATO as Russia is willing to get. Up to this point for some reason I hadn't thought about it as an attack on Germany's and Europe's economy through gas shortages and price gouging from other pipelines. I wonder what has been discussed in NATO so far concerning a possible "attack on NATO" at whatever meetings have convened since the sabotage.

Any more protests
Looks like first wave of mobilization is over. I expect some protests within mobilized soon, when they finally arrive at battlefield in bigger quantity.
Then again Putin does not act completely rational anymor
He is cornered. I can't see why would he threaten with strategic weaponry before tactical.

He's comfortably dumb.

Aaaand apparently this is my most popular message on the forum ever. Not sure what that says about me, or about you lot 😂

Maybe Putin is on the submarine 🤔 not many windows on a submarine ;)

Russia, February: Makes it a crime to tell the truth about the war.

Russia, October: Why ministry of defence keep telling lies???

Like any leader, Biden says a lot of things, but I'm inclined to believe him on this:

It's weird to think this is how my parents felt during the 60s.

This isn't how our parents felt in the 60s. They were actively doing nuclear raid drills at school, hiding under their desks and tables or in hallways away from windows. They were constantly reminded that the entire country could be obliterated tomorrow and were actively training for it to the point where it became routine. @Dotini @whoever else is old. At least that's how it was in Dayton, right next to Wright Patterson AFB.

The only thing I'm worried about in life is why the hell they won't give me a high-limit rewards credit card. Our country might be all sorts of messed up but nuclear holocaust is not high on our list of real, tangible problems.

Promoted to tunnel.

Edit: Will be interesting to see if the engineers dimensioned the bridge for a train engulfed in flames. Steel loses about half of its strength at 600°C.
