Not sure who would benefit from this. For Ukraine, the bridge was a nice target and representation of Russia's hostilities, but also a humanitarian corridor and bartering tool for Ukraine if they managed to get to a Russian surrender.

Russia can use this as impetus for more fight much more than Ukraine can.

Imagine if, like all their other corrupt or non-existant stock, Russia finds that its nuclear weapons haven't been maintained as well as they thought and that none of them works.

As there weren't any nuclear tests since 1989 and with level of corruption in RF its plausible.

Crimean bridge, train exploded. Happy birthday.
I'm going to assume a simple lack of...something lead to this on Russia's part. Systemic negligence lol. Analysts have been assuming that Ukraine would hold this bridge as a bargaining chip or as a last resort which is partly why the US hasn't provided any longer-range weapons.

If it was deliberate, killing the occupants of the overtaking car and trying to take out the car travelling the opposite way seems like a very Russian military thing to do :(

Russia has once again put a stick of dynamite through the spokes of its front wheel.

"Argh! Ukraine!"

(I'm too lazy to edit the comic myself but would be a nice idea)

The Russian military trained dolphins got distracted by a passing shoal of fish... Flipper be trippin

They were heading from Russia to occupied Crimea which is a crime(illegal border crossing). Still, its a tragedy.

Reminds me of some of the weapons Germany promised to send to Ukraine early on. Some of them were old stuff from East Germany and apparently covered in mold and not working

Loss of civilian lives is impossible in a war. But, maybe the bridge was hit so late at night to reduce the amount of civilian losses, at that time there were very few cars on the bridge and even the train that was hit was a cargo train.

Also, the fuel fire must have damaged a long section of the railway bridge for sure. I imagine they were using pre-stressed steel rebar in the concrete sections of the bridge, if they got hot enough they lost their strength for sure compromising the structure.
I'd say that entire section needs to be replaced and thats going to be expensive and time consuming.

edit Yeah the train bridge sections need to be replaced, that concrete got HOT.

I don't think that's necessary, current power structures in Russia probably fall apart on their own after losing the war.
Yeah but Putin and his bitches are going after civilians, and perhaps to persuade the Russians a bit faster to revolt against the bitches, they need to see their infrastructure demolished.

@inCloud any Russian news talking about Moscow? Ukrainian government is reporting that the Russian National Guard is in Moscow and arresting members of the armed forces?

TL:
"Military arrests began in Moscow
📌 In the Russian capital, a complex of "measures" directed against the military began.
📌 Traffic in the center is blocked.
📌 Units of the operational division named after Dzerzhinsky - the "elite" of the Russian Guard - entered the city."

TL:
"📌 They are moving to the center together with police units.
📌 It is known about numerous arrests, detentions and blocking of military personnel.
📌 Instead, all military units on the perimeter of Moscow have been put on high alert."

Yeah but they'll probably just leave it and it will be on an episode of Plainly Difficult in a couple years; assuming the whole bridge doesn't get dropped.
