Situation is unfolding very rapidly. I'm not able to make heads or tails of this but it sounds as if half of the RU army is ready to side with Wagner and a bunch of units are already defecting.

Zero legit info about fighting. Counter terrorism measures in Moscow and Rostov. Search and seizure in Wagner related buildings in S-PB.

3 heli were down by Wagner. 2 EMW mi-8, one mi-35 with unknown role. Rostov is under Wagner control, Voronezh status is under bombing unknown.

It is the height of irony that Putin now faces his biggest threat for within Russia itself - after all of his bleating about 'the West' threatening Russia's future.

That said, I think this is a very dangerous development, and for those who want to see Putin gone, it may well be a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.

Prigojin is a horrible man, but he isn't hypocritical moron with unrealistic expectations. If he won:
1) War will be over
2) Negotiations with West would start next day
3) ФСБ will be exterminated

I think the biggest concern out of this would be if a power vacuum developed if no new infrastructure came in fast enough. Especially with a Nation that is home to a lot of nukes, it would become extremely unpredictable.

It seems like Putin’s speech has made him a Wagner target.

So you're telling me that treating professional soldiers-for-hire like unpaid interns and using the philosophy of "the more of them die, the fewer i have to pay afterwards" isn't a good strategy, especially when they have access to large amounts of military hardware and are in your own territory?

Are people still believing that this is some sort of 5D chess false flag thingy?

I mean, at this point, it's pretty much guaranteed that "something" is happening, and it's not some propaganda move by the russian government.

Even if this doesn't amount to much in the military sense, which most seem to think will be the case, the reputational damage it's going to do to Putin is extremely significant. There's no way the Kremlin will be able to continue to spin the war as being under control and going well when someone this high profile decides to go into business for themselves and directly challenges the leadership.

Though it does make me think of how even 20 years ago, before 24 hour news coverage and social media could instantly transmit this, the whole incident would have probably slid right by as a minor mention on most major news outlets. It really does show just how critical information control has become in in modern warfare.

Vladimir Putin's reliance on Wagner was always a sign of a fundamental weakness - now it may turn out to be a monumental strategic error.

At the very least, it is a colossal embarrassment and personal humiliation for Putin, as well as a challenge to the web of lies that Putin has created to keep both his military and the public on side. The Wagner/Prigozhin domino has fallen and it remains to be seen how many others (i.e. Russian military) might follow.
