RVV Motor Works - White Knight - 10/02/10

Blood Mask is impossible to be hated . My review tomorrow. Already won the "Race of Red "R" Emblem". Its an unbelivable unbalanced series. The first race takes 22 minutes (10 laps at Motegi full course:ill:) the third one is just 4 laps at Fuji 80's :indiff:

Oh I'm not angry or anything. At least not at you, I'm just not used to leave our reviewers with empty hands that's all.

Have you ever thought about using the 787B enduro tune Rotary made instead?

I thought about it, but then i didnt found the brake setting on it and i didnt understood whats sitting and coasting ("The car has a noticeable rear-high rake sitting still/coasting...") so it kinda scared me. I guess i didnt understood the words in that context because im not a native speaker or im a noob at GT . Anyways ive read a couple of comments that say its an epic tune.

Yeah it was an early enough tune that I was still scared of the brake balance controller

Yet the suspension is amazing. Hmmm...

EDIT: Rear high rake means the back is higher than the front... In this car's case, if you're not on the throttle or stopped, the rear is higher than the front. If you're accelerating then the rear squats down lower than the front.

Wow, thanks. Doubt solved. Still, what does "coasting" means and how should the bbc on the Mazda be tuned?:dunce:. Thanks in advance ;)

Coasting means to be off the throttle and not braking; leave the BBC stock as it's what I've always run with the car. (Although some improvement may be possible)

Hey RVV, have just noticed you're coming up to a great milestone in the life of the garage. Please accept my hearty congratulations.

@RJ: I remember testing the 787B (pretty sure reviewed it too) and was just astonished at how good it was, cause it looks bloody awkward on paper IIRC. And I simply can't drive cars that go fast, at least not before trying that tune. My driving partner has less experience with the game but the reflexes of a 20yo and he just flogged it round the track. When you get your console back you simply must update the tune, if it can be possibly improved.

@Carbastard: You should use coasting to shift the weight of the car before braking or cornering, it's especially important in FR cars with high power and weight like the fat Euros. To get an idea of how the game treats weight distribution you should read Scaff's Tuning guide here; in fact you should read it, at least twice, to get a better idea of the physics of the game.

Consider the dogleg before the first hairpin at GVS: in a fast car with a stiff chassis you will need to lose speed to steer it properly and predictably. If you ease off on the accel the weight shifts to the front and the front tyres can steer properly, then you jump back on the throttle as soon as you get your line back. If you accel all the way to the dogleg and tap the brakes to lose speed, the movement of weight in the car is more violent, and you have a far greater chance of losing control, not to mention doing more damage to the tyres, which I believe prompted the discussion in the first place. Try the experiment by putting a few more horses on a top-end Merc or Aston and you should see what I mean.

I should also add that I only learnt this after giving a lukewarm review to a car that I could tell was truly brilliant, then the tuners had to essentially teach me how to drive before I could do well in it. An excruciatingly embarrassing experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. If any of this is wrong, could someone correct it please? It's a bit simplistic, but only cause I don't want to make a mistake.

PF

Thanks PF and CarBastard! :) Yeah we've been here for a while now, and I think we've accomplished quite a lot. At least we're seen as good tuners and have a, discutable, reputation around the forum. :P:D

That's because RJ is odd PF. :P

But 2.2 sounds possible for the rear, the Carina has one of the lightest spring rates of all the cars.

Haven't you seen another odd thing about the setup post?

Okay, gotta say that I've never used this car, and I don't have access to the game right now. For all I know it's not even in GT4. But assuming it is in the game, I'll put these suggestions up:

1: Spring rate (as mentioned)
2: Ride height seems awfully high, but I dunno the car (as mentioned) so could be okay
3: The bound/rebound/stabs look rather violent, but I reckon they'd work well for an understeery car, so that might be good
4: Cambre seems rather over-the-top
5: LSD of 22/45/5? Like I said, I've never tried it or owned it but 45 Accel looks awfully high
6: Are you using the BBC to try and mitigate suspension problems? From what I've read here it's not the way to do it
7: Positive toe as well? Yet another unusual choice but yet another that sould be left to go. If it fits with the rest of the setup you should be applauded.

Did I get any of them correct?

Am looking forward to a response from both Vince and RJ.

There is reason for all of it, although the ride height may be a bit tall.

Then again, the spring rates, dampers and stabilizers are all that should really look out of place on a FWD.

Lastly, as it would seem Mafs has experienced the Carina, I think he knows why I grabbed this car for April the 1st.

Great news! My PS2 is now replaced. :D

Oh and for those who didn't notice the white text, I built the Carina without ever driving it. Or even having one on GT4 at the time. I did have Roj test drive it and then made a few adjustments to my initial setup, buut... :embarrassed:

Blah blah blah. :P

Nah, seriously....great news RJ, now you can get back into organising TCv5, let alone building cars for RRV. :D What's going to be on the menu?

So what do you guys want?

I've got a few cars pretty much at "ready" status, needing only a few more tweaks to be considered finished...

One is the most nutso S14 on S3s I've so far seen, another is going to hit anyway (full power Supra), then I've got a ground-up version of my circuit FD, and I wouldn't be opposed to releasing my secrets for my drag FD if people are actually going to use it to try and make said car quicker over the 1/4 mile.

There's a few others sitting in my garage as well though, expect a list and status report on each soonish...

Anyhow, once that's up, it's up to the public to decide which get my attention first, and which get released first.

Anything more than one person requests will get done so fire away with suggestions as well ;)

Vehicles in progress/stats/status:

1996 240SX (S14): 403hp, 1250kg, S3; Complete for non-winged use, downforce setting pending.
1998 Lexus IS200 US spec: 160hp, 1510kg, N2: Built entirely for A-spec points at Capri, finished. Most work was gearing, then suspension to try and handle the mass.
2002 RX-7 Spirit R: 372hp, 1079kg, S3; Completed
"Something"
2004 SL65: 999hp, 2028kg, S3; Tries to kill driver under braking, high weight does not help this condition. Otherwise fast, stable and easy to drive.
1996 Legacy Touring Wagon: 379hp, 1430kg, S3; Needs differential work and perhaps a bit further suspension work. Still very "rough" as a tune overall.

I'll vote for the Lexus @ Capri, still have another 14pts to chase on that one and can't remember the car that was used for it.

Second vote goes for the RX-7 drag tune, in the hope that it can teach me a thing or two.

You can stick with that. :P

No thanks.

Nice, want to see that one.

This will be a good challenge car to my garage as I'm releasing the SL65 Black at GME. :mischievous:

Legacy's suck when tuned, I don't know why but they do and I'm trying with the lighter B4 RSK. Even MFT's effort with the Blitzen wasn't 100%.

And oops PF, I'll send that tutorial to you. ;)
