Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO (PS4/XB1/PC) - Milestone

Purchased this for Xbox one and hated it til I figured out that you have to go in the car setups and change that as the default one is pretty much un-drivable, at least for me. Once I changed the settings am really liking it and it will hold me over til Dirt arrives.

I also noticed that, I need to find a good brake set up, it still feels like I'm not braking on tarmac until I lock up.

I expected it to feel like the WRC games, but I was wrong.

I'm enjoying this so far, it's a fun game, but the driving is a little tense... almost too unpredictable and I am having more trouble than I care to admit trying to slide around hairpins without losing control. Try to take it slow and steady it's fun.

I encountered an odd glitch where the co-driver read the pace notes for a single corner in another language and very loudly too it sorta scared me.

I know some corners where the co-driver would talk louder than normal, but I never encountered him talking in antoher language :D

Been pretty addicted to this so far, but I have a few problems with the game.

-Muffled engine sounds from cockpit and hood views. Can barely hear exhaust pops from views other than 3rd person camera, despite the flame spitting exhaust sounds being very loud from outside of the car. This makes me sad, but maybe it's my speakers.
-The cars roll very easily, sometimes it seems as though the car will roll for no reason around a corner.
-Load times are very, very long on PS4. This is especially annoying on short 3 lap races.

The game is quiet, not helped by the default volume levels being at 90%, changing that helps. However I still had to turn up my AV system in comparison to most other games.

Rolls can occur if you drop off the side of the road (so roadside drainage is deep, but you can also use these to help you corner by dropping a front wheel in and using it to help get you around. However a modern rally car is short and tall, so it will roll easier than a track car even on a tarmac set-up.

Yep - load times are a pain and the rally cross seem to be the worst, taking longer than a 6 or seven mile stage.

So, after playing this more and more I finally discovered a setting that made the game 10x better for me. I turned "stability" on in the race settings and I feel like I can properly enjoy the game without crashing all the time.

I realize I probably am not very good at the game to begin with, but in all honesty it was becoming frustrating before I found the setting. I had to feather the throttle (playing on PS4 game pad, since I lack a wheel) or else my car was spinning out unexpectedly. Forget about sliding around corners or good old Scandinavian flicks.

Realism or not, I prefer flying through the stages. When I hit a tree I want to hit a tree on my own terms. haha

Got to say I really did enjoy this game and I think Milestone did a great job, but picked up Dirt Rally on the weekend and it's in another league! Consistent 60FPS during gameplay and replays, SLRE just can't compete with that!

Agreed, its just better in so many ways. Though I will occasionally still play SLRE cause it has a better car and track selection than dirt rally. But DR has way cooler career mode!!

Unfortunately I traded SLRE in to buy Dirt Rally. In all honesty, I just couldn't see myself playing it when Dirt Rally is available. The sound alone in DR Is addictive!

I bought this game digitally, so I am not going to get rid of it just because Dirt Rally came around. Unfortunately, SLR Evo will not be touched in a long time though. Will be hard to go back to once I've become so used to the quality of Dirt.

Fair enough. I was considering that but it has Australia in it, A 8 gen lancer and the escudo for which I payed flipping $15 for, I'm not trading it in. Unless of course Dirt rally gets the same content.

I am having a hard time getting my head around the difference between the two and while I would not go so far as PS3, it is like comparing a late PS3 title with a PS4 title in terms of graphics (which is a shame as the core physics of SLRE do stand up).

Dirt is a lot harder. SLRE has decent physics but I found that they don't transfer as well to the inputs. Also rally techniques are less important in SL than DR. Mind you I have only been able to have a few hours of play so far. Insummary the main difference is that SL is slightly more arcade but better content while DR is quality content but missing key cars and only a few tracks.

Really wish I could use a keyboard with my wheel in SLRE. My handbrake is wired to my keyboard for Pcars, and it'd be very handy in this game for obvious reasons. I play with all assists off on the realistic settings, and due to not having a handbrake (it's mapped to a button but that's as useful as an ash tray on a motorbike really), I have to set up my cars with a lot of rearward brake bias, to get the back end out on corner entry, but this also means sudden emergency braking can get very interesting very quickly lol.

I don't disagree that Dirt is a better sim, simply that SLRE surprised me with the depth of the physics engine.

I actually however find Dirt easier, as I almost always do the better the sim, as it's reacting more in line with what I expect to happen.

Australia is definitely a loss. It was one of my favourite in SLRE

I can see what yo mean with dirt being easier, tried it again toda with the wrc cars and was easier to drive. I think i just need to get more used to it, and not be just driving the 60`s cars.

I'd describe the key difference as that in SLRE the cars tend to slide over the surface even when you have oversteer, whereas in DiRT Rally you can use oversteer on a loose surface to slow the car down much more.

So in SLRE it feels like you spend far more time and effort braking, and have much less effective brakes, but I think it's more the simulation of the loose surface and how a car will scrub off speed which differs.

SLRE also has much smoother roads with less noticeable undulations and camber changes. Not sure if that's SLRE having more accurate reproductions of the actual road whereas DR is taking actual roads and amping them up a little to make things more exciting, or SLRE simplifying the challenge of these roads for ease of use or due to game engine limitations....

Difficult to say - I do recognise element of the same stages in both games, certainly the Welsh rally. DR certainly feels 'bumpier'.

Oddly enough, I think that playing SLRE before DR has helped ease me into the latter, making it less of a culture shock, as it were - certainly after coming from the semi-sim road environment of Driveclub.

Has anyone else noticed the Group B 205 T16 lacks pretty much any ffb? I've just gone from doing 70's events in the 2002ti (such a fun car!), which I get plenty of feel through ffb, to Group B events in the 205 T16, and the wheel feels like it's turned off... Apart from the odd slight vibration, I can't feel anything of what the car is doing, the wheel is completely slack. It's making it extremely hard to find the limit of the front end.

Edit: Never mind, turns out it was only like that on the first two rallies I tried, one of which was icy and the other wet tarmac. Just tried Australia and it's fine. Strange that it's so dead on wet or icy roads, considering the other cars I've tried still had plenty of ffb feeling on those roads.

So after getting used to DR, it is much more satisfying to link corners together than in SL. Also there is none of the annoying understeer in all the cars in DR.

I just downloaded this full price on PS4. Played the demo and lots of PS4 users say it's great. Granted, the PC version seems to be a disaster. Based on what I saw on the demo, this game does not deserve all the hate it's getting from people.

I was going to wait, but I figured I would rather support Milestone in this so hopefully their next rally game will be much better. I'm glad they got rid of the WRC straightjacket. Milestone definitely has made some crappy products, but my last experience with them was excellent with V8 Superstars. That game was a blast on the PS3, and I even won a free copy of GT5 for competing online!

Much prefer SLRE to Dirt Rally; I really can't be doing with the pretensions and pretentious of DR. Also with DR, where is the rest of the game? £40 for £20 of game is really not on.

Myself, I only have the one nerve left and DR gets right on it

I love DiRT Rally, but I agree that it is woefully thin on content. Only two stages in each of the six locations.

SLRE is a great game once you get past the iffy graphics and pathetic sounds. 32 unique stages and all the RallyX tracks, plus Pike's Peak! Set the difficulty on realistic and enter a four-day rally and you've got quite the challenge, rivaling even DR's supposed difficulty.
