Thats what I'm after with the sound, my flowmaster just sounds too tame for me. Any details/tips for the headerinstall? I know it's a huge pain and I want to know as much as I can before I do it.

SLP loudmouth + ORY... hope you don't have noise laws where you live because you WILL break them

Remember to upload sound clips when your done 👍

Haha I doubt itll be as loud as my trans am was, a half hour in the car and my ears rung like crazy. I shouldn't get too much hassle since it does technically have a muffler.

If I may chime in, I think Flowmasters sound like garbage. Too hollow and generic sounding for me, and EVERYONE has them.

The SLP Loudmouth stuff isn't bad. Magma flow makes some decent stuff.

Personally, I'd just stick a couple cheap cherry bombs on it. No different than running that SLP stuff honestly.

The 80 series single flowmaster muffler with 1 inlet and 2 outlets duals does indeed sound weak on those 4th gen Camaros and Firebirds. Its 1 muffler and just never sounds good. Best way to make these cars sound really good is true dual exhaust. I personally still love the sound of true dual flowmasters but that's just me. Especially with 3" in and 3" out. Sounds so sick.

The setup you are going for will sound really good especially with the cats removed. You should hear those 4th gen Camaros and Firebirds with true dual exhaust and no cats. Sounds soooo good!

Really? I can't get over the cheapy "hollowed out" sound they produce that almost sounds like a faint whistle.

Ew. Just about everything with Flowmaster mufflers sounds like that.

I'd rather have something much more full sounding. Magnaflows aren't bad.

Besides displacement, those engines are identical. They should sound like the one with Magnaflows. Flowmasters sound like poop IMO.

Those do indeed sound like crap in that Mustang video. It must have small exhaust pipe and a fairly weak engine. As you know, it all depends if the car has headers, the size of the engine, and the size of the exhaust pipe. There are plenty of really good sounding flowmaster videos out there.
For example I had the exact same 40 series flowmasters on my 67 Fastback mustang and in my 69 Camaro. The mustang sounded very quite and very weak. However they sound incredible on my 69 Camaro. 2 different engines, the mustang didn't have headers, and the Mustang exhaust pipe was small. All boils down to the engine, if it has headers, the exhaust diameter, and the muffler install. If installed properly, flowmasters sound amazing.

Stock 302-2V, 2 1/4" pipes, stock manifolds.

I still think they sound pretty rough. I've heard many combinations and can agree with you that a it changes based on your setup but overall I still think they sound like crap. And I've used Thrush, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Walkers etc.

Perfectly proved my point. The audio difference will be MASSIVE between manifolds to headers, vs stock V8 to beefed up V8, 2" exhaust to 3" exhaust. The difference is truly night and day depending on the build. Hearing my Camaro and my Mustang running side by side you would never know they were both running the exact same mufflers.

Flowmasters can sound as good or as bad as you want them to sound like any other mufflers. ;)

I realize you can make them sound ok, but their design just won't allow for anything other than that rotted out hollow sound that you hear. Apparently a lot of people like it.

The most important part is how close or how far away from the headers you place your mufflers. The closer you place the muffler to the header the worse it usually sounds. Not many people know that. So that's your tip of the day. :)

That's true.

You're actually the first person I've heard that one from in a long time.

Just to clear up the flowmaster thing, the trans am had true dual super 40 flowmasters and it sounded plain nasty so I'll agree there
for sure. I'd love to do duals on this but never again for a daily, between the fumes and the noise it's a little too much. This is a compromise for me, it'll still wake the dead though
Edit: I also know the only way to really make something sound good is to a head/ cam build, an exhaust can only make a weak stock motor sound so good.

I did get to hear the exhaust that I'm planning on running today, it sounds super mean but second thoughts are creeping in, it's race car loud with the headers on it and I'm stuck daily driving this thing.. So it's still down to the loudmouth or the hooker catback now, the hooker isn't stainless though.

Yup its all about how the Flowmasters are installed and how the motor is setup to get the optimal sound. 👍

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, go stainless. Especially since you have already seen what rust does to your car, and especially since this will be your daily driver.

I was just thinking that. Get some cheap $150 cutouts on Ebay. Quiet for the street, loud when you want it to be.

I'm with Camaroboy here, go stainless pipes. Always worth it in the end.

Just as an example...We put exhaust on our truck around 2004. Stainless pipes. I was under there the other day. They look brand new.

I want stainless but my cat back budget isnt high enough. I refuse to spend more than a few hundred bucks for a catback when so much more needs to be done too. Either way I'll have something in
The next two weeks before Carlisle gm nationals. As of now though I only have a little less than 300 to spend though.
Edit: more than likely I'll run a cutout at some point. I'm going with the hooker cat back as soon as I get the last 50 dollars together and I'll be replacing the cat with a cheap high flow one next week. Headers will have to wait another couple weeks.

Wow it's been a while, so far I have the catback done, blown and fixed an axle seal and had the catalytic converter go bad. Heres the exhaust, sorry no picks of the install, it was a long day.

Thanks guys, it took a while with the level to get them tucked up just right, ive seen too many exhaust that look bad from hanging too low or being off on one side.
As soon as i find a decent camera ill get some exhaust clips, the muffler is still breaking in anyway.
@Slash I did that in the spring, I guess I forgot to post them up. I did light tint to dull the red too.

Sorry about not getting the mandatory video, my catalytic converter was bad so the rattling was embarrassing. I just got a new high flow cat on this weekend so I'll post a video up tomorrow. I will say though, test pipes are overrated, Its nice and loud but with out any of the rasp or smell of deleting the cat.

Sounds mean! Little quiet but sounds good.
Thanks man! It's a lot louder in person but the camera didn't really get the loudness of it. Im really happy with it though. Next up, more power tomorrow with my tuning hopefully and my third try at fixing the headliner.
