I'm sure after a week it'll seem normal, it just took me off guard how much it likes to squirm around on main roads, completely worth it though. You get used to it. My Camaro's summer setup was 275's up front and 315's out back. It's perfectly fine.
Honestly it's all toasted, it needs a whole new exhaust including a cat and a passenger floor. Also it need a panhard bar and lca bushings in the rear.Once you get that done I would give the entire car one good look and make sure nothing else is toasted. If it is, keep it. If not, then start thinking about other options.
Yep gotta love being a Chevy fanboy...
Its not the F bodies fault, its previous owners that don't wash their cars in the winter climate. I cant emphasize enough on how important it is to underbody wash your cars in the winter states during the winter months. The salt ruins everything. However if you keep the car washed, and keep off the salt, cars can last a VERY long time up here without rust. This is not directed at you, but clearly the previous owners did not keep the car free of salt in the winter. ANY car will rust if not taken car of. I always recommend taking your cars through the local car washes during the winter months. Its a must. Especially if they have underbody spray. What started as me just changing steering spindles to put my new brakes on Thursday has become a complete rebuild of the front suspension, first I messed up the ball joint boot on the drivers side getting it separated so I figured Id change it with a spare I had bought just in case. Fast forward to today and both my control arms are too rusted to do anything with, the drivers side actually has visible holes in it. I have to pay a guy who runs a junkyard just for camaros and firebirds ( yes its amazing and sad at the same time) a visit to pick up new control arms. Replacing them means new bushings for control arms, sway bar links, pretty much everything under there, the worst part is I dont have the tools to do it so most likely ill be paying to get them done along with a new alignment. After this mess Im actually considering getting out of f-bodies and just buying something a little newer and with a little less upkeep. It would really depress me to sell it and get an econobox but im not sure what I can do, the next couple of weeks will tell.
Oh god this. I've seen a '74 Duster here that's in amazing shape and has always been a NY car. Never seen a winter. Its not the F bodies fault, its previous owners that don't wash their cars in the winter climate. It wasn't me, i spent many cold days washing the car this winter and it hasn't seen a winter in about 6 years until this one. Overall for being 20 years old in Pennsylvania nothing was overly rusted. It just seems it's all rusting from the inside out and I can't figure out why, I keep it very clean all the time, there's not a speck of body rust on it anywhere. Its not the F bodies fault, its previous owners that don't wash their cars in the winter climate. Like I said, the reply wasn't directed at you. Well unless you are not underbody spraying the car properly. If you are, then again, not directed at you. Its more advice for anyone reading this thread than anything else.It wasn't me, i spent many cold days washing the car this winter and it hasn't seen a winter in about 6 years until this one. I wasn't getting defensive, I just HATE rust, and having so much in a car that has the most ridiculous unibody design in the world really gets to me, I mean the floor is a structural piece so I have to remember that when I patch it.Like I said, the reply wasn't directed at you. The "inside out" rusting is from previous owners not properly underbody spraying the car in the winter. The underbody MUST be sprayed during the winter or this will happen to every vehicle. When I say underbody spray, I don't mean spending $1.00 to walk around the car and try to spray underneath it. I mean taking it through proper automated underbody spray car wash. Those usually cost about $5.00-$6.00. Its better to spend 5 or 6 dollars now instead of paying hundreds to thousands to fix your car years later.
You think so? I thought it might look a little tacky even though I really want to lol. The silver doesn't look too bad, I might paint the other one to match.Paint them red!
Yes I do. They will pop against the rest of the car and make it stand out. I think they look great on Camaro's.You think so? I thought it might look a little tacky even though I really want to lol. The silver doesn't look too bad, I might paint the other one to match.
Oh theres no way I'm buying new calipers, I was just deciding what to paint them now that they're on.Stencils can't be that expensive. I would imagine doing that would be cheaper than buying red calipers that already say Camaro on them.
I wouldn't eitherOh theres no way I'm buying new calipers, I was just deciding what to paint them now that they're on.
The one in the picture is brand new and the other one only has like 59k miles on it. This whole thing was supposed to be a 100 dollar budget brake upgrade and now it's cost me over 500 dollars so I'm not looking to spend much more on it. I will need some stainless brake hoses soon though.I wouldn't either
