Interesting watching the videos.
Two things that occur from watching them is that A) people try to overtake regardless of the outcome, which if clean racing is the objective then in my experience you have to brake a fraction early sometimes when somone is in front to avoid the inevitable collision, and just wait for your opportunity

The skills of the drivers are, obviously, very different and these old cars have a demand of a much sooner braking than more recent ones, which can make things a little bit tricky to judge. However the huge lag problems that sometimes occur, specially in large lobbies like the one we had yesterday, also do have their (significant) share in some of those rear-end bumps - sometimes the front car suddenly stop in front of you.

Yeah, sorry for smashing into you Drivatar. Your car came upon me very quickly; suddenly found it in the racing line and couldn't avoid it.

wow ... just finished watching Jeff's Infineon videos. Considering the last corner/last lap crashin'& smashin', I can only say we need the patch badly!

So hozes, are you trying to say we're all lousy drivers? :D

I tried my best not to make any (hard) contact with other cars but still make an effort to stay 'racy' and fight for position*. But it did happen a few times. Don't forget, as mentioned to Paulzx, a lot of the contact you see in the video is the result of lag and bad prediction code. I'm still hopeful it will improve once the new patch is out, but I'm not expecting a dramatic change. So long as cars no longer shove you into a wall or shoot backwards like a cannon ball, I'll be happy :) satisfied. :indiff:

* Except for Hockenheim where I just fought to keep the car on the road.

I think GT prologue operated its online racing to match the lowest quality connection of the drivers in the race so as to try and cut this lag problem down or out completely, obviously thats not the case in SCC?

I'm not sure but I assume so as well. And I suspect NFS:Shift does the same. But private lobbies do exist in Shift and I've been in lobbies with players from far ranging continents and the lack of lag and stuttering was impressive--it's almost off-line like smooth and I don't know how they do it. In that sense, EA does have an advantage in that they have their own dedicated servers but I guess that doesn't tell the full story.

With SCC, anybody can open a lobby and unless it's made 'private', anybody can join that lobby. So by nature you're always going to have people with good connections and bad connections paired together.

At 0.52 Ghost_Yelo comes shooting through at impossible speed. So I'm 'guessing' he gave me a slight tap and the rest was lag.

I do remember that, and it was completely clean from my side. At least we don't have to deal with these 'grey area' knocks anymore. Besides lag the online prediction is much better.

I was actually quite dissappointed with this event to be honest. Just from my side I know my tune was good, but was at least 2 seconds a lap down on the front runners. But on the upside at least the guys in front of me in the end results were all faster.
Bumping was absolutely rediculous during these races and I was taken out so many times and put right at the back of the pack!!! I just know I can't complain because we weren't patched. But heaven help me at the next event if someone takes me out again and it's NOT lag related then I don't want to race. It just ruins the entire race to be taken out.

There were some extremely WTF moments with Bullie and myself on Infineon. Getting pinned to the wall down the pit straight.. Rammed under braking... pushed wide while trying to go the long way around. And I do apologise if there was anything from my side, but I was so conscious of keeping everything clean especially knowing about the prediction code problem. So I was always giving more space than needed.

Not complaining, don't get me wrong... just super happy about the patch and really keen for the next event.

cheers!

I'm just curious, do you actually remember seeing me go off? Did anybody give me a tap or did my car just go off on it's own. From my perspective, it looked like you were behind me until I was well off the course (and then came flying by at warp speed) but I'm guessing you were in reality already long gone by the time I was off the course.

Don't feel too badly. I felt the same way after the 330 Race. And I feel the same way about the pace. Guys like Alan & mhm are in a different league completely. It's just depressing. :yuck:

Yeah, the patch was sorely needed. I've had so many races ruined because of incidents like this. Hopefully the 'test' this weekend will show good results and we can start the next Old Timer event on a different foot.

I do remember having to dodge some obsticles there. Judging from the vid I wasn't slowed by you or stuck to your side as the vid suggests as my car is still hauling ass like nothing happened. If I was behind you and had just given you the tap then I wouldn't have been able to get through you as you were sideways and woulda been blocked.

It was definitely my car that tapped you even though it was no so on my side. Flip, I really need to buy a camera...

LOL! Don't worry, I'm not looking to point fingers--just more curiosity than anything else. I was actually fascinated during the 330 event when Mario had his camera rolling as well when I had the incident with bullie. From my camera you could see him pushing me off the track. From Mario's camera, I went off on my own. Just really bizarre stuff. And I'm curious to how other's see it.

I'm really looking forward to the test on Sunday. From the racing last night, it looks like a major step in the right direction.

hehe yeah and like we say, we may not have to worry about these discrepancies again.

I'm a bit concerned about the Fastest lap bug tho.
