SCC Old Timer Event - 365 GTB/4 - Dec 6th, 2009 - *Event Complete - Results Posted*

Don't lose that setup Henrik--the 365 Spyder is on the list for an up-coming old-timer race. But it won't be the 'next one'. ;)

Well i dont know how good it was since nearly nobody raced it.there was only
6-7 people on the leaderboard on silverstone where i tested it.But my time was 5-6 sec faster than number 2 and he had all asssist.didn't look at the times after the trophy races,but it was vallelunga-redwood and nurnburgring i think.only did the pole lap and the 3 lap race and still won by 25-35 sec.
 
Well, had some of the best races I've had in SCC this evening, with 'Turner_047' and 'eddietrout' (365GTB), and later with Mario/Derek/Frawe. Did races at the event circuits. Had a couple of serious classic races at Silverstone. One in particular, myself and Turner were dicing the whole race, passing each other on the last lap. He got the lead in the latter half of the final lap. Managed to pass him around the outside into the final corner (Luffield). He got his revenge later though! Great stuff.

It's looking like a great event on Sunday, because several people have a strong pace.
 
Do you mean ChilledAnt is simply connecting his PS3 via a local WiFi network he set up or is he actually using some sort of wireless broadband technology? Either way it could potentially be an issue.

What I mean to say about hard wiring the PS3, is make sure you don't have any kind of firewall or router or switch between your connection and PS3. It's not something I would recommend for general use. But if you're having difficulties connecting, it's worth a shot.

hi j. its just broadband technology. its the more common way to connect here. for most people. somewear along the line everones connection goes satellite... my diagnostic tool at work called isis (intergrated service information syestem) its over a lan to our plant in pretoria, at our plant there is a satellite dish which becomes a broadband connection to germany were we can diagnose our cars together with technicians in munich were they program any car. So called WI-FI is the future of high speed internet traffic.

That reminds me when, a few years ago, I was playing Enthusia Professional Racing and, late night, my wife cut the electric power to the entire house (restoring it again after a few seconds). :banghead:

Here's my review of this event:

Paul Ricard:
Started near the back. Bit of "argy-bargy" around me into turn one. Pretty clean after that.

Silverstone:
Started 2nd last. Got a good start. Slipped past Arvore before turn 1. Jeff and Derek I think went off into turn 2. Got passed them. Going into Club tight-left, got wholloped from behind, which sent me into the middle of nowhere on the grass. Recovered and got passed Turner and newsoul soon. Managed to build a gap when in first place after that.

Hockenheim:
Started mid-field. Pushed wide on exit of turn 1. Shoved again through turn-2, although it seemed to be the usual 'bad network prediction' thing. Exiting the chicane was just mayhem - cars and smoke everywhere; serious lag problems there. Caught up to Jeff. Had a good little battle. Tried to come alongside into the stadium section, took a little tap which put me onto the grass, and of course then on to the gravel. After that, caught and passed Jeff. From then on, had 10 laps to try and close ChilledAnt down, 13 seconds ahead. Slowly got it down to 3 seconds. Then himself and newSoul lost a lot of time and was much closer on lap 13/15. Newsould went into the gravel at that awful Mercedes-grandstand section, and Chilledant followed him, so I could sip through into 2nd. Henrick was a mile in front, so no chance.

Infineon
Started near the back yet again. Made a couple of places near the start. Jeff got shoved onto the grass, which let me into 3rd. Caught up to newsoul and got passed at the back-hairpin. Was closing on Henrick slightly. Final lap, 2nd last corner, someone who I was about to lap crashed on the left and ended up stopped on the racing line. Smash and bang. Lost around 10 seconds. newsoul was a few seconds behind, so could pass me before the last corner, so that cost me 2nd place.

Vallelunga
Finally a good race. Started near the back again for some reason (not sure how eutechnyx made their random generator...). Made a couple of places. Was right behind Bullie into turn 2. Took a nudge from someone (Derek said it was him afterwards), so onto the gravel again. Rejoined in 8 I think. Had a good battle with Jeff again, eventually passing at the back straight. Newsoul went off exiting the tight hairpin, so I slipped through. So then it was Henrick 1st, me 2nd. Every single lap I put in was low 1.55, a few in the high 1.54s - over 8 laps or so, the gap was around 2.5 down to 2 seconds; incredibly consistent. I closed a couple of seconds in the last few laps. I'd say it was better driving from Henrick, because it's not easy to do the running, especially when someone is 0.5 behind, and you're braking into tight corners - it's easy to worry about being hit from behind (which is worth worrying about...), and end up outbraking yourself. So it's was seriously good driving from Henrick, and more so extremely solid under pressure.

POUL RICARD
started 1st and got past turn 1 clean.After lap 0ne chilledant was 2nd with 3 sec to me.
He hold that gap until he was disconneced and there after i had a lonely race.

SILVERSTONE

Started 10th but got a great start passing 3-4 on the right before turn 1.After the fast chicane I was 4 i think with derek close behind.Had a good battle with new_soul (one of many)and when i finally got past him alan was nowhere to be seen.

HOCKENHEIM (wet)

Started 13th (last) but again got a great start passing several people before turn one.
Took it very slow through the next couple of turn but tap someone under breaking to the hairpin.Had a tuff time passing jjaisli and new_soul (i think) with jeff going sideways
i every corner.When i finally got past i was pulling sligtly away watching the battle with
new_soul and chilledant.I think they changed playses 3-4 times.Won by a good lead

INFINION

Got a great starting posision (3th)
Was trying to stay out of trouble at the first lap but there was some contact in the righthander on the hill.I was tight on the curb and saw jeff going wide and out of nowhere derek was 100 meter infront of me.I think he ran wide after that and i started to close on new_soul.He is a wery hard man to pass,and i ran 4-5 laps just on his bumper
hoping he would make a mistake.I could see on the times that alan was closing fast.There was some lag from new_souls car where it suddently whould jump backwards
and then back in front.I overtook him but i didnt think it was clean so i waited for him to take back the position.On lap 5 or 6 i passed him under breaking after the hill.On the last lap I lapped a car and i could see in the rearwiev mirror that he went off,and i coluld hear
a big crash when he hit alan(to bad alan,that it cost you 2th)

VALLELUNGA

That was an all time great race.
Again i had a close race chacing new_soul with derek behind.Got past new_soul on lap 2-3.When i got my fastest lap it was beatin by alan who was closing on me.On lap 5 he was only 2-3 sec behind and was lapping at a wery fast pace.We ran close all the way to the finish,and i had to keep telling myself that i should stick to the breaking points that i pratice.At vallelunga im close to the curbs at all corners,so i knew that it would be hard overtaking.Luckely he didnt try a kamikace attack,and after what felt like forever i finish 1st with alan 1 sec behind.great race.
 
Supercar Challenge - Old Timer Event - 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 - Sunday, December 6th, 2009 - Race Results

Once again, a big thanks to all those who took part in the 365 GTB/4 event. In this case, a few less people showed up than I assumed would and many people who wanted to be included in the event weren't on-line during the race. I'm assuming they either forgot or had plans elsewhere. As there seemed to be so much interest, I purposely didn't do much promotion for the last few days both in this thread and by way of PSN messages. None-the-less, we had an excellent turn-out with 13 people for the first few races.

So with that, let's get right to it. And remember, we have a new points format for this event: 25-20-16-13-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 and 1 point for Fastest Lap!


A) Practice Session : Paul Ricard - 3 Laps - Dry - Random Grid

As mentioned, points don't count at the first practice session. But I make a point to tabulate them anyway just for record sake. It was unfortunate that the new patch with updated collision handling was not available for this event. On the very first corner of the first practice event, I had a lag issue and another car immediately put me into the wall. I decided it would be best just to wait for the field to go by rather than risk rejoining and push somebody off. And with that, I was at the back of the field. Despite this, I was able to capitalize on mistakes by other people and eventually finished in 7th. It could be worse. But as it's Paul Ricard, worse is relative.

1) Race No 2 : Silverstone - 9 Laps - Dry - Random Grid

For all intents and purposes, Silverstone was a bit of a boring race for me. The guys in front, were simply too fast for me to catch, and most of those who started behind me weren't quick enough to catch me. At Maggots, Arvore had a bad line in and there was no way I could avoid him coming out so we both ran wide and allowed AlanG & mhm66 to come through, although that was probably inevitable. There was some further slicing and dicing for the first lap or two but things eventually settled down. For a few laps I was able to keep pace with new_soul but he was simply too solid and the occasional mistake on my part made catching him impossible.

2) Race No 2 : Hockenheim - 15 Laps - WET - Random Grid

About half way through this race, I remember asking myself, why did I ever decide to make it 15 laps. I never really felt comfortable with the car and it seemed to drag on forever. Compared to the guys up front, I really struggled with my pace and I also suffered a strange problem where the car seemed to lack grip in any form whenever another car was <.5 away from me. It seemed like every time AlanG or mhm66 was coming up behind me, I couldn't get any power down, my car was oversteering like crazy, the brakes were locking, the car was underteering or then oversteering like mad. And when they moved on, things would settle down. Perhaps I just couldn't handle the pressure. :lol: But it seemed once again, to be a rather lonely race. I did have one rather bizarre moment when I didn't realize that AlanG had driven off the road at the hairpin and found myself in front of him, and suddenly he came flying by. For just an instant, I thought he was lapping me and was aghast that he could have managed to do so in just 3 laps.

3) Race No 3 : Infineon - 9 Laps - Dry - Random Grid

To be honest, I was really a bit annoyed at Infineon. Let's face it, Infineon is a tricky track to attempt a pass under the best of circumstances. And it's off-camber corners and and "S" bends make it a difficult place to race. But I had more contact from both lag related issues and simply poor driving at this race than all of the other tracks combined. I started the race in first and held it for the first few corners. New_Soul had a better line coming out of turn 3 and I figured he might run a bit wide at turn four and I would pass him again going up the inside. But then I was hit from behind and by the time I was back on the track and had momentum again, I was down in 6th. What happened from that point forward was simply a comedy of errors that will hopefully be revealed (and laughed at) when the video is done.

4) Race No 4 : Vallelunga - 15 Laps - Dry - Random Grid

I had some serious doubts about including this track. In a way, it's tight hairpins make it even worse than Infineon. But this is the 5th Classic car event and we have yet to run this track. And I figured it was better to do it with a 'slower' car than with a rocket ship like the 512M. At least from my point of view, those worries were unfounded and aside from 'near disaster' on the first lap, people were well behaved and respectful and there were no lag related issues. Well, expect for lag related issues of another sort. Both new_soul and TURNER_042 were kicked out of the lobby and (I believe) Arvore left on his own but he has yet to confirm it. It's really a shame as new soul in particular looked set to have a good result. With no choice left, we'll just say that their cars had 'mechanical issues' and consider it a DNF. The new revised points system sees that they at least received some compensation.

Final Results:

Using the new points system, plus allowing an additional point for fastest lap, probably didn't make that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. But the winner of the 365 GTB/4 event has a new face and for the first time in 5 events, somebody other than AlanG is stepping to the top of the podium. Congratulations mhm66--a well deserved victory for taking the trouble to change your work schedule JUST to take part in this round. That's dedication! 👍

Once again, I hope everybody enjoyed themselves and was able to appreciate the 'spirit' of these events and the manner in which they are intended. I envision them to be more or less like real life historic events, where the thrill comes from the "chase to" and not necessarily the "order at" the finish line. With any luck, by the next event, Eutechnyx will have a patch for us and the ridiculous prediction code will make it easier to cope in larger lobbies.

My intention is to run one more event before the 'holidays', either on Dec 13th or Dec 20th. I'll make an announcement in the next day or two, depending on the patch status.

Sorry Henrik--it's corrected now. Your fastest lap of Infineon was actually a 1:52.12. Alan had the fastest lap there. Points have been adjusted.

hi guys event was great... had fun silverstone was a nightmare for me pad died after start it was a up hill battle there, hockenhiem was cool had a great battle with new soul even though he liked the wider line through the last two corners, infieon will ok the lag i think was the overhaul winner there. 2wice on the start finnish straight i lost it funny how the car loses all grip and braking ability WEARD, good ding dong with jj and turner, vallelunga, will had a good start came to go past bullie wanted to turn right into turn 4 but the car of bulli said no go left.LOL lag.. well done to henry for his the GTB4 champ. good racing besides my small problems, second time i race in the events second time i tie with turner. lol lol... chilliiiiiiiiiiiiii

I remember that, I was struggling to turn right and your car was forcing the car to go left towards the wall... lag is quite frustrating

I'm glad you made it through the full race Chilli. New_soul is not a member of this forum; something I didn't consider, and I probably should have specifically mentioned to him about the track rules.

You're not kidding about Infineon. I'm just waiting for YouTube to process the videos and will post them (with timeline comments :lol:).

Timeline for Infineon:

0:43 - new_soul has a better exit out of turn 3 so I decide to let him have turn 4 knowing that he'll probably run wide and I'll take him up the inside. At 0:45 I'm hit and pushed wide and pivoted off-line. At 0.52 Ghost_Yelo comes shooting through at impossible speed. So I'm 'guessing' he gave me a slight tap and the rest was lag.

1:05 - 1:12 - totally taking a beeting from ChilledAnt who then suddenly appears to the right of me and then at 1:14 gives me a friendly 'tap' to say 'hello'. LOL

1:24 - braking late didn't stop a tap from behind. And a slight push wide at 1:27

2:05 - Easy there Derek! ;)

2:46 - Hold your horses Alan--I need to pass him first.

3:01 - Really now Arvore, you lost the corner back at turn 4, just accept it. LOL

3:30 - Nice dice with Turner

3:52 - I put two wheels off the track on the left and it totally put me off balance. (stupid) And as a result at 3:53 I completley lost it. Tried hard not to get in Arvore's way but did anyway. (sorry) Came back on at 4:01 and side swiped Derek (double sorry). I let him have the corner again. But Arvore, you went wide on your own--so you get no free ride at 4:10

4:28 - Ooooohhh, this looks...like...it's...going...to...be...messsssssy.

4:36 - Hmmm, well, not a relief for Turner, looks like he's off the track and into the wall on the left. (lag?) I'm not sure but I think he thought I pushed him off here as he made a comment in the lobby.

4:44 - Arvore decides to follow my line off the track and explains his take on 'closing the door' at the hairpin. :D

5:07 - BANZAI!!!

5:14 - Turner INSISTS it was me who pushed him into the wall at turn 2 and returns the favor. :D

5:22 - L449KUX decides he's had enough and buggers off.

5:44 - Either quickly feeling remorseful (or knowing that I likely had a camera rolling) Turner wisely lets me through again. :lol:

6:15 - Possibly the only time in this race I passed another car or was passed BY another car and didn't make contact. LOL Thank you bullie!

7:16 - I'm telling you Arovre, if you keep making that Kamikaze approach into the hairpin, you're going to run wide. ;)

7:50 - ARGH! There go the cones--how embrassing.

3:00 - both on the limit of adhesion - I remember I wanted so much to apply power and the car was already starting to understeer. Great stuff!

4:00 - Total Nail biting stuff! Great action!

4:51 - Chillie you wimp--Arvore would have attempted the pass from there! ;)

5:29 - ARGH! Those %^$# cones!

7:38 - I get a bad exit and run a bit wide which allows Turner to close right up to me. I decided to defend the inside because it was the last corner on the last lap. At 7:43 Tuner decides he's not having any of it and smashes me. But before he can take off and out sprint me to the finish line, Chillie then smashes Turner at 7:50. Whoah! Thanks Dude! LOL

What a race. All tongue in check--hopefully no egos are too badly bruised here. :)

On Infineon the lag / timing problem must have shown up badly. I was the one involved in the overlapping crashes. But to me it appeared different:
I was driving focused on getting a "fast" lap time when suddenly someone hit me hard from behind and a huge spin out followed. I didn't even notice blue flags before.
That was probably hm66, but from his report he didn't touch me.
Soon after recovering another one hit me, probably Alan_G.

I'm guessing here, but I'm confident that everyone had their own setups, tested throughout the last couple of weeks...
 
In a way, it has become a bit of fly in the ointment. Some of these extreme setups are quick but they're just not realistic. Can you imagine setting up a real 365 GTB with an additional 12 cms of rear ride height, -4 degrees of camber in the front and ridiculous levels of toe? It would be almost impossible to control. But I think as drivatar has painfully realized, using the car in stock form, it's impossible to run competitive laps. And as such, the amount of work that goes into finding a good setup and running practice laps is turning these events from weekend blasts to week long projects. And now that we know about assigning different set-ups to liveries, it's going to make it even worse. Soon I'll have to start announcing the events a month in advance. :lol:
 
:dopey:I was very eager to watch the Infeneon video because in the lobby right after Alan paged me saying i rammed jeff twice like "crazy" as by the time i couldn´t remember what happened(beginning of the race) i didn't answer Alan and paged jeff apollogising...
I was worried that in the upset state i was with what happenned to me in hockenheim( min.5.14 of infeneon video x 4) i had made one more agressive move but now looking back to it on the video i see it was more lousy driving rather than malice (really have to work on breaking points without the breaking zone aid) because at min.3:01 i take the inside of the corner loosing the proper breaking point and push jeff off the track because i was running wide and slammed right into the wall after as a result but it was a stupid move sorry Jeff:tdown::nervous:
Also a bad move at 1.26 not malice my car was skidding off the track because i missed break(again) but i think that you've concluded this yourself by the watching of the 4.52m (and the funny remark:dopey:) and 7.16 m incidents where the same moves happened on my own, that the situations between us where just plain bad driving skills and not purposely trying to shove you off:ill::ill:
But don't worry because in Vallelunga (i thought i had enought in Hockenheim but it seems not) i was punished enought and quit...👎

Was impossible for me to show up, so my yellow/blue 365, so carefully tuned and tested these past two weeks ... was left in the garage while you guys were having all the fun ... :indiff:

Anyway, I see you guys had another memorable racing event, congrats to you all and especially Henrik on your win! 👍

PS - Alan, your laptime at Silverstone is absolutely in-cre-di-ble :crazy: !!! Great stuff!! :)
 
Well Arvore, if you're trying to make a case for allowing the racing line at the next event...it's not going to work. :lol:

No worries Arvore, I know there was no malice behind it. All kidding aside, throwing your car into that corner is, IMO, very risky. If you get away with it, once and make a successful pass (see 5:07), 👍 you're a total hero. In fact, quite impressive. But there's no way you can get away with it lap after lap. But I guess you know that in the meantime. :sly: I actually didn't realize you hit the wall yourself after the 3:01 incident. In the video it's clear but in the race I just assumed you were waiting for me. :D Infineon is tough anyway because it's so tight, and you really have to have trust in your fellow racer that they'll give you enough room. It's why I had to change from dash view to bonnet view during the races. When cars are along side you in dash view, you can't always tell. And of course with lag, it's tough to tell anyway--just look at the 1:05 ~ 1:12 with ChilledAnt as an example. Who knows where he really was and how he saw it.

At any rate, I'm sorry to hear you had so many lag related incidents at Hockenheim and Vallelunga. Hopefully next time will be different.

Interesting watching the videos.
Two things that occur from watching them is that A) people try to overtake regardless of the outcome, which if clean racing is the objective then in my experience you have to brake a fraction early sometimes when somone is in front to avoid the inevitable collision, and just wait for your opportunity

B) the poor handling of the older cars makes the whole thing a lot more difficult to judge!
 
Well, in fairness, lag is often the single biggest factor. Sometimes, one on one, it's fine. But when 14-16 people are going side by side at the start, it's difficult and the cars can be somewhat erratic in their reactions.
