Since car setup / tuning is proving so important in this ROC, I decided to let you know that this Second Round will also feature a DRY race.

Start testing/setting up your beloved Vettes. As usual, the track will only be revealed Sunday

Hi!

Just a silly question from someone who hasn't got the game yet (an hour or so and that'll be solved...): why are these events with automatic gears instead of manual?

Sorry for the answer

Hi!

Sorry for the answer

I think you meant "... the question" ;)

It's a simple reason. Auto transmission isn't considered an assist like TCS, ABS or SC are. And by setting the lobbies like that, all options remain available (auto, semi-auto and manual). On the contrary, if you set the lobby to "manual", no other option is available.

True that the vast majority of players use MT (and you'll be able to notice that by checking the leaderboard), but some, normally because they are driving with a pad, prefer AT.

This thread has now all the info and settings on this Second Round of ROC.

As you know, in this Round we will have 6 race-pairings and another "leaderboard battle" to sort out the 2 fastest among the race losers, getting ourselves the 8 players that will proceede to Round 3.

Looking at the pairings, I guess the battle on the leaderboard will be as fierce as the races, because there are some very even, and very strong, race duos going to happen.

Anyway, whatever, this is just a game and I hope you all have fun! 👍

I would say AT is the opposite of an assist - it just slows you down. It's especially important on a circuit like Infineon, with all the rises and falls, to be able to keep the right gear. Using AT, the computer changes gear at all the wrong positions.

Also, I think using a pad doesn't really make it anymore or a reason to use automatic. But I've always used MT on pad, so maybe others feel differently.

I never could use that many fingers using a pad. :D

Opening thread updated with the Blitz switch to RSRacer.

I think we're clear now to start practising, testing, tuning and ... racing! ;)

I've just been on the 'The racing elite.com' website and they're not very happy that we locked out the top ten leaderboard places with 360gt whilst practising for ROC! So they're now trying to lock out the top places with the 'vette C6R. So hopefully that'll give everybody a bit of extra motivation!

Great! Come on Sarrinen - no time from you yet on the leaderboard!! Pity, it's almost spoiled it with some random-er in 1st place with full driving aids; unbeatable with no aids.

It's a real shame about the time-trial/qualy bug thing - would be great to do a time-trial league or soemthing between GTP and The Racing Elite and any other groups, like a weekly time trial league with particular car on particular track. But the bug just ruins all of those kind of things.

despite being kicked out off the competion by a better racer than me-GTP_Theewar(cheers m8)-and being sad because i know that i'm
faster than some of the drivers who were qualified:guilty::yuck::grumpy: That's life unfair:tup: and i knew the rules:indiff:, i keep track of what's happening in the competion and i find refreshing and salutable the time trial competion with the racing elite crowd(where i'm registered)-cheers wayne & eddie, that will give a purpose to always trying to improve one's driving and bringing togheter two scc racing clans in one competion more championship like idea brought up by firedshot in theracingelite.com late september but never came real probably due to connection & server issues in scc:nervous::ouch::nervous::dopey::guilty::yuck::grumpy:,belive me i know them.
But i think that in the close future such an event could very well come true with a point sistem of a proper championship and a weekly event with people from both clans racing & having fun:):):)👍 may ferraripro(dave) and is crew keep up doing their job as they must and bringing scc online races to the level they rechead in late fc after fixing all the bugs-may,june,july 2009.

Even though Im out of the competition I did some rounds with this track/car combo and I love it... Infineon is a really cool track in my opinion... Pity I didnt make it into this round :) I will try and show up on the leaderboards though, what are the aliens driving for lap times on this combo?

Blitz, do show up to practise sessions, the more the merrier. Last night I was in a lobby hosted by "arvore" (also out of the competition, as you) and it was fun!

Had a few runs last night with several players, including ROC competitors turnupdaheat, frawe, AlanG and RSRacer; ROC ex-competitor arvore and a few other drivers I never met before.

It was my first time using the Vette at Infineon and .... I must say this is a hard combo! :D

Started lapping on 1:35's, then slowly dropped to 1:34, 1:33, 1:32 and finally !:31 in the final race. I think I can get to 1:30, but no more closer to the top guys, doing 1:28's !!! :scared:

Anyway, I'm still unsure on what I can get because I got totally lost with the car setup. I think I tried everything and felt it all was wrong. In the end, I reverted to the default settings, with just some tweaks in camber, and that's how I did the 1:31 in the final race.

Only small consolation for me is that frawe - my rival in this Round - seems to be having even bigger problems than myself adapting to this combo. That doesn't tell us anything, however ...
( jjaisli spent a full week complaining and come the race he left me in the dust :ouch: ... that sandbagging bugger :grumpy: )

Well, enough talk, I came here this morning to post the current (about 1 hour ago) Leaderboard for this combo. Do not forget that the 2 top times, even if you lose your event race, also grant access to Round 3. Here goes:

Times in Grey are times from ROC players that have won their Round Race, therefore not taking part in this competition. Currently no time is greyed because no race was held.

Times in Black are valid times from ROC players that have not won their Round Races, but also not the two fastest laptimes that grant direct access to Round 3.

Times in Red are invalid times from ROC players because made with assists.

2) Non-ROC Players

Times in Blue are times from non-ROC players accomplished in ROC settings (no assists. Currently, no player in the top-ten conforms with this rule.

Times in Orange are times from non-ROC players made with assists.

Wow, 1.31s??? I stayed hanging at 1.35 and thought I was doing good.. And setups play a huge role in this game... before I tweaked the setup I was doing 1.38s-.39s... Anyway.. I will add you on my PSN as well, let me know when the practice sessions are going and I will join.. I need all the practice I can get :D And since I can call you Mario you can call me Misja... Nice to meet ya! 👍

Fair enough Misja ;) btw, don't know if you visit the eutechnyx forums, but there I found this "guide" from Alan. See if you feel good with the general directions given in this text (all credit to alan, I'm just quoting):

alang184
Corvette/Infineon

Dampers: I mostly use hard front and rear. If there's too much oversteer happening, try the soft rear.

Camber: I dropped the front camber to -2.00 and it seemed to make the cornering faster. I don't have much experiencec with this though.

Hard front & rear springs should produce the fastest results. If suffering from oversteer, try softening the rear springs. If the circuit's bumps or kurbs are causing a problem, soften the rear first, and then possibly the front if really necessary.

Anti-Roll: Ideally you want hard front and rear. Again, if oversteer, soften the rear. If you need to do a lot of heavy high-kurb riding, consider softening both rear and front.

Ride-Height: The lower the faster. But bottoming out can be a problem. My guide is to just try out as low as possible without making the handling to difficult.

I'm far from an expert on setups, but these are a few ideas that I have. I have a lot to learn about it, and when seeing MHailwoods fast time on Infineon, I have a lot I want to learn about setups!!! Apart from that, it is "only a game" as the phrase goes, and it's more fun to have close racing and solid discussion with fellow players than trying hard to thrash everyone and have no fun!

Misja, Hun

Hmmmm. :)

Well, I'm sad to say, I probably won't have a chance to to even turn on the PS3 until tomorrow at the earliest, considering how this week is going. But at least now I know what times I have to shoot for. I've yet to turn a lap with the C6R and that track. :nervous:

Hey, how come the RacingElite guys all seem to be using assists? :sly:

In any event, I was very pleased to be able to improve my lap times at Misano to a level I never imagined I would be able to after my first few runs. Although a lot of that is down to set-up. But it's amazing what you can do when you push yourself and search for those few tenths. That said, I really was "lucky" in the first round and I don't think I have much chance against Alan.

And no, I'm NOT sandbagging. Trust me, Alan is going to walk it.

Thanks for the tip. I do have an account over at Eutechnyx, but Im not there often.. :) The tuning model in this game is pretty simple compared to what Im use to... The thing I want to find out is how much influence adjustments have and where the limits are before you start, .ie bottoming out, etc. Also the limits of camber.. How running extreme camber and such, affects the car and if you gain advantages or not... My time with this game is still in its infancy, but now that I got a hang of the physics and how the cars react to inputs I am REALLY liking this game... Once you start lapping fast and constant it is really edge of your seat racing and rewarding... which I like very much.. How knows... Maybe a BlitzHednrix SCC Divison will open up soon ;)

Hmmmm. :)

Good luck in your round Jeff 👍 Hope to actually race with you in one of the practice sessions since I missed out on your old-timer event... BUT I saw you have another coming up so I will try and be at that one instead :) Im going to keep tinkering with the setups and see what helps the most... If I find something good I will post my setup here... I'm at 1:35,93 at the moment and Im going to try to knock off as much time as I can before the end of the week ;) If I make it into the 33-34 range I'll be happy :D

Comments:
- The leaderboard battle got two relevant additions since yesterday: a complete newcomer - jjaisli (now 11th) - and also a strong effort from GTP_Madbigdog (Improving his time by nearly 5 seconds and rising from 46th to 9th).
- We have a new 1st place, Alan replaces MHailwood. Good work!
- Overall, many of the laptimes have improved since yesterday, some very intense practising is taking place every night.

But now ... the weekend is about to begin, and that means ... RACE TIME ! :scared: My race with frawe will happen tonight, and I guess a few others also. By Sunday night all races should be done and we will all know who made it to Round 3 and who ends their participation in ROC in this second round.

Stay tuned! :D

(and I ask all racers to tell us something about their races in this thread, it's fun to read what happened)

Average lap time is around 1:29-1:30??? Ok, I think its time you guys tell me where that Nitro button is hidden...

Blitz, Jjaisli says my setup is undriveable, but try a soft car with negative camber and negative toe front and back, maybe it will help you. :)

Blitz, Jjaisli says my setup is undriveable, but try a soft car with negative camber and negative toe front and back, maybe it will help you. :)

I'll try out the toe :) Right now I have it setup up with negative camber... a little more in the front then the back... and for toe I have a bit of toe-out on the front end and toe-in on the back to keep it in check :) overall setup is already soft though... I stayed hanging at 1:34.71 last night... a second better than my previous PB so I am shaving off time here and there... 👍

Ok, so everybody is too shy to tell us about their races

I can tell you guys that 3 races already took place:

- GTP_Theewar vs. UKOG-GEORDIE

- GTP_Hun vs. frawe

- GTP_Madbigdog vs. turnupdaheat

Winners were GTP_Theewar, GTP_Hun and turnupdaheat.

Don't know nothing (except the result) about the other races, I'll do a short writeup about mine with frawe. We met aproximately at the previously scheduled time, it was my responsability to open the lobby so I did and frawe was soon in.

The quali race ended up quickly with me getting pole position. I must say I was a bit nervous :dopey: . Judging from the leaderboard posted times this was a race I HAD to win but as many of you know I have this tendency to make stupid mistakes at stupid times. Really need to work on consistency but yesterday didn't have any time - during the day - to practise so I was very aprehensive.

Before the race start we settled the proceedings to observe if we had any incident in the race (lag induced). We were both with headsets so this was the rule suggested by frawe and agreed by me. If no one speaks that means no problem, contact/collision ocurred. No need to ask "Did I punt you?" as so often we used to do in practise when seeing someone else going off, or wide.

So, there we went and ... I had a good start, but did mess up the first right corner :ouch: and went off to the sand. Still without control of the car I came back to the track and I was sure we were going to colide. For a moment I was expecting frawe to speak out and say "Hey, you took me out" but he managed to brake and avoid me. Still in the first lap frawe got a heavy penalty in the esses (his car went to the portion of the track we used to do in FC) so I got an early and very comfortable lead.

From that point on, the rest of the race was very uneventful. I managed my lead, drove safe, and most of all managed to calm my nerves  so it was a safe ride home.

Thank you frawe for your sportsmanship, look forward to race you again and wish you better luck in future events! 👍

---------

I'm now going to update the relevant posts with the results we already have, but here I'll still post the updated leaderboard. The fight for 1st place keeps interesting, MHailwood recovered the lead from Alan. Several players improved their laptimes (not mine :indiff: ), something that shows the importance of practise to really achieve awesome times.

So, here goes:

Congrats GTP_Hun. After avoiding the collision with you and the penalty I lost too much time. It was impossible for me to catch you or even come close behind you. So I tried to race my own race without looking the gap between us. My goal was to drive a constant race without big mistakes. This goal was achieved by me and this satisfied me. It was a pleasure racing with you.

I just want to confirm that AlanG184 won our race. And it was pretty much a landslide. He both qualified in the 1:29s and ran laps in the 1:28s and the best I could manage was one single lap just inside the high 1:29s. Unfortunately, starting second meant my only choice was to push as hard as I possibly could AND hope Alan made a mistake and I would be close enough to take advantage of it. Neither of these came to pass with Alan running a flawless and surreal 9 laps while my own race was mared with countless errors and off road excursions.

Well done Alan! I think you stand an excellent chance to win this event outright. 👍
