I have a hard time believing that statement, it's difficult for me to think the only major auto manufacturer doing H4s right now would say the FRS is the first H4.

That'd be like Porsche releasing a car in the US and saying its the first flat six. :indiff:

I was under the impression that it was a newer version of Subaru's Boxer engine that Subaru has used for 40 years.

Which is why I'm confused that Scion would advertise it that way.

The Scion commercial that's been airing recently claims the car has the world's first horizontally opposed boxer engine.

Am I wrong in thinking that's not true, or is there something I've missed about the engine?

I was thinking the same thing... I thought Porsche did that.

I still cant decide if I like these... I think a Miata/MX-5 would be a better purchase, if you didnt mind the Rag-top.

That irked me too. I know that it's saying the "first opposed H4 engine with D4s injection" but that pause between engine and ds4 is too long, "first H4 ever............................................................................................................................................with d4s direct injection."

Yeah I think that's it.

Probably, but it might be the first front-engine, rear-drive car with a boxer 4 as well. I can think of dozens of cars with 4-cylinder boxers, and mid-engined, rear-engined, front-engine FWD, all-wheel drive, FR with either 2 or 6 cylinders... but no other FR boxer-4s.

So Toyota GB are entering a GT-86 into the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone:

This IS the ONLY event at Silverstone worth going to each year.

Came back from my local Toyota dealer and checked out the new FR-S with my wife. They had a Tornado Grey auto in the lot that was apparently just delivered to the dealer moments before we arrived. It was an ok car. We weren't able to test drive it on the streets but was able to thrash it around the parking lot a bit. Fun factor was definitely there.

A minor gripe of mine, but I'm not too fond of the fake carbon fiber found throughout the whole car. Seats were very comfortable and hugged you as you sat in it, great lumbar support too. The seating position was great where everything on the dashboard was easily accessible. Trunk space was adequate, but the rear seats having the ability to fold down was a plus in my book.

My comment still stands about this car not having enough power. I do appreciate its lightweight chassis and soft suspension and know what the cars purpose is for, but I just can't help but feel disappointed once I put my foot down on the pedal. The paddles felt very responsive, especially when putting it into sport mode, shifts were amazingly fast and pulled nicely between 2-3.5k rpm. It also made a nice sound when downshifting and according to our salesman, it does so much more aggressively when in sport mode. Upgrades may be in the horizon.

Long story short, the dealer offered us 27k OTD that day. We kindly declined and scheduled an appointment next week to go over payment plans and build our ideal FR-S... inevitably I may have to sell my Mustang. Bittersweet, but at 265k miles, my GT had certainly ran its course.

FWIW, all of our cars have been daily driven and almost have a combined 400k miles between the GTO and Mustang alone. This car WILL be daily driven and would definitely see 200k miles, easy. We're expecting to drive this thing to the ground

I know everyone has their own take on the power thing, but it appears from magazine tests that auto really doesn't help, even though it's a decent auto box. Think it absorbs a little too much torque meaning you need to work it even harder than the manual car to get anywhere.

After reading EVO mag and seeing their review which panned the car, one of their writers mentioned on twitter that he'd driven the manual now and said its a far better car.

Dude... F1 GP. :odd:

I've ranted about this so many times so I'm not going to do it again, but Silverstone will never get my money for a GP ticket ever again.

The 24 is a great event to go to, the more recognition the event gets from manufacturers the better, IMHO.

Subaru-BRZ-Zero-Car-1.jpg

Subaru will debut its new Zero Car, which is based on the regular BRZ sports coupe,at this weekend's 2012 Japan Rally Championship (July 28-29)

The Japanese carmaker has not released any specific details about the Zero Car.

"Zero Car" or "Opening Car" is a term used to describe a vehicle that opens the road for the competition models in rallies, meaning this is not a production edition.

Well good luck getting it looking that good unless you know one of the Autopia boys.

I think its a great shade of red. Not too dark as too be closer to burgundy and not so light as to looked like that washed out faded red getting closer to pink.
This is the sort of red I like because it's right in the middle.

I'd say what really doesn't help is the fact it's in a garage and we can't really see how dynamic the paint is at different angles (though the contrast rear to front is a good sign).

Btw, thanks for posting the link to the auto detailing forum, saw it the other day and since then I've had a nagging feeling I needed to show my car some love. Spent about 2 hours in the sun making sure the car was properly washed, cleaned on the inside, and even the glass got cleaned. Looking very good right now. :sly:

Looks fairly close to Classic Red from the Miata.

Which era of Miata? Looks darker than the shade on the very early NAs but not dissimilar to the red on NBs.

Not keen on the BRZ as it looks a bit bland. There's a very fine line with gloss reds between them looking vibrant and dull. This one is just on the dull side, to my eyes.

That said, it may look a lot better in sunlight. A lot of cars do. That garage shot isn't too flattering, as Kent points out.
