Wow...How long have you been playing gran turismo. There are I think four versions of that blue Subaru Impreza. I just figured that a GT player couldn't miss a WRC Impreza. Sorry for just making a joke out of your real question.

That's an '06/'07 Impreza, a car never featured in a Gran Turismo (except a few GT:HD Screenshots).

:ouch: picky picky picky...I'll make sure to specify all the years makes and models of the blue impreza next time.

May 10, 2007 - For more than ten years, the SEGA Rally series has helped to define the off road genre. The quarter munching arcade title is still wildly popular and profitable today, and many racing fans still enjoy jumping into the arcade cockpit and racing each other for bragging rights. But SEGA is looking forward to taking the Rally series out of the arcade and into the home. This fall, SEGA Rally Revo will peel out on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We managed to check it out at a press event for some quick early impressions.

The first thing that we were told was that the SEGA Racing Studio out of the UK will be handling racing for SEGA properties. The team definitely knows its racing, as the more than 60 developers have worked on driving games from various developers like Criterion, Codemasters and Rockstar. With a stated studio mission "to bring state of the art racing to next-gen consoles," the Racing Studio is focusing on three specific facets of gameplay for the upcoming title. The development team wanted to make state of the art graphics, putting attention on the handling of vehicles in various environments and the close racing experience that was key to the competition during games. While we were shown examples of this from the original Sega Rally Championship as a indication of where the series had been twelve years ago on a SEGA Model 2 arcade board, we really wanted to see how this would translate to a game console.

Looks like you're going to need a car wash after ripping up this track. When the demo build was fired up (on a PS3), it was easy to see where the attention to detail had been placed. The first stage we were shown was a lush tropical setting with mountains and waterfalls in the distance. A shanty town marked the starting line, where a blue rally car sat. We were told that the design team has put in a specific paint shader to show off various hues and color gradients in the vehicle, as well as reflect the environment in the glossy exterior of the car. However, the finer details didn't stop there, as the attention to detail extended down to individual tire treads, and finer motion of brakes and brake calipers. Since the car was in pristine condition at the start, it had to get a little muddy. After taking it down the track from the harder packed earth into muddier terrain and water, we picked up on the caked on grime that layered the sides and front of the machine.

What's more, the track had been degraded realistically based on how the car had been driven, and would retain this level of deformation persistently throughout a race, forcing players and computerized opponents to adjust their strategies on lines to take through the various hazards. Part of this is due to a new degradable polygon mesh format that literally has a tire cutting into and shearing aspects of the track away as it passes. What's especially cool, as we were shown from a different camera angle, is that your car's tires and suspension will respond to this new track, riding higher and lower as it passes over and through grooves on the track. You can also hear the engine working much harder as it tries to propel the car through some of these thicker rutted mud sections.

It looks good considering the video wasn't a direct feed.

I'll give you that, but it really didn't seem like i was watching something that was much different then a GT4 rally mode. I'll give them a little credit when the mud started to fly.

But I'd prefer DiRT.

X2:tup:

I agree... if the game turns out to be the same as shown in that video.

Although, from what I've seen from DIRT, and the comments many have made on what they feel is very poor physics, I'm afraid I'll be left waiting for Evolution Studios to release their next gen WRC (World Rally Championship) game before finally getting an opportunity to play a quality Rally Car driving game.

I have been looking for a simlar rally game to Rallisport Challenge 2 and it looks like its finally here. Sega Rally Revo! Dont say Dirt because I did not enjoy that game and this looks like it will blow Dirt away.. Dirt was a joke compared to RC2.

The track even deforms as you drive over it! 6 players online! Mud, mud puddles, water puddles, snow, dirt,

Here is a trailer with info and actual gameplay. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22409.html

I'd prefer to play a demo of this before thinking of buying it. I prefer World Rally type games - just you against the clock - as opposed to games like Sega Rally. But if there's a demo available at some point (360 or PS3) I'll definately try it.

Seems like the interest might be low in here but I thought I would post it up anyway.

developement progress

I like how its coming along. I haven't played Dirt but I don't think it has mud effects like we see in this clip.

looks fun to play
I am buying this game for sure. I have been watching it for a while and it definetly looks better than Dirt by a long shot. I have also seen every video on gametrailers.com I loved the videos that show off the grooves that are put into the snow and the mud. 👍

Latest on cars in Sega Rally.

Mitsubishi Concept-X
McRae Enduro
RUF Rt 12
HUMMER H3 SUV (Customised)

About the hummer:
You wont find this beast of a car in any other game because it’s been modified, with approval by GM, by Lead Car Artist at the SEGA Racing Studio, Keith Burden. HUMMER is one of the very few manufacturers to allow such extensive customisation for a game and Keith has pulled out the stops to produce a real monster for SEGA Rally. Beginning as a standard HUMMER H3 SUV, Keith removed the rear doors and dropped the ride height, brought the wheel arch up a touch and tweaked it further to allow more space for wheel clearance. Keith then added Rally-Raid influenced wheels and tyres. The H3 is currently the most popular HUMMER model, with its compact design making it especially desirable within the American market.

Yep. This game is still shaping up really well

I had a great time with the Sega Rally Revo demo last night. The track deformation is incredible and really changes the physics of the car when you drive over the grooves. If you go out of the grooves your lap times get a lot slower just like in real life. There is definetly no game out there that piles mud on the side of your car like this game does. Just wait until you see water on the track in the final version. It gets into the grooves, holes, and you can drive through huge water holes. 6 players online that you can actually see will make this game very fun just like Rallisport Challenge 2. Yes Sega Rally is an arcade racer but so was Dirt. I personally got bored of Dirt after a few days because of the lack of time trial multiplayer.

I will definetly be buying 2 copies of Sega Rally Revo when it comes out. :dopey:

Funny, I didn't like the demo. The cars seemed to turn on their centre axis and didn't feel at all natural. Not particularly good looking either. Cars show no damage. I think I'll pass on this. I might rent it however if there's a drivers view.

pure arcade rally game, not a bad idea, but to me Dirt offer a better compromize between fun and driving sensations.
in addition to that in Sega rally the mud looks like chocolate and the car models doesn't looks that good. I'd like to play a demo to make my idea on gameplay because the vids I saw haven't made me enthousiast about this game...
(soory for my poor english)

In all honesty, this and DiRT really have little in common besides having licensed rally vehicles and being about rallying. If you want to run the real events, and play a rally game that replicates the actual series, DiRT did it well.

This though, just looks like a completely different deal. But I was did enjoy most of the demo. But I think it'll be a rent.

Based on the Eurogamer review the game does sound pretty cool for what it is, however it also sounds to be in a completely different racing subcategory from DiRT. I guess IMHO the two really don't deserve to be directly compared against each other as each game is great example of its sub-genre.

Motorstorm says nice to meet you.

[/8 players online]

This game isn't too bad, but it's not ground breaking.
