Feel free to post memorable moments / quotes / experiences /favourite combos / pet-hates here, and I'll be generating write-ups and photos over the next few weeks or so! 👍
*edit* It's also just been pointed out to me that this is in fact my 3000th post on GTPlanet.
Couldn't possibly think of a better way to use it!

Day 1. Saturday October 27th 2007.
DaveS1138 is waylaid by an unfortunate illness for his wife & daughter, and can't make it out here.
With all the rest of the participants present, Touring Mars having arrived from London, UK on Thursday evening to de-jetlag, and Kylehnat also arriving early in order to give him time to correct his posture after 12hrs behind the wheel from Olympia, WA! The jump_ace's came in on Friday night, flying in from Portland, OR. With the remaining locals juana b., ceiling_fan, alrivers, V1P3R and Strop turning up by 10am, we were quickly set up and ready to go.... if only we could get the damned network to connect! Many repeats of "I've got 2 dots." & "OK, next machine go in." later it was discovered we'd got a wiring error! Once rectified we were away into our first event of the day!
Event 1: Race Car Handicap
A fun format filched from Famine's famous files, the handicap event runs as follows:
With 9 drivers, we let the fastest 3 drivers, based on SFGTP1 results, and WRS reputation in jump_ace's case, sit off the first race.
The other 6 drivers all begin in identical cars. The winner gets the dubious honour of dropping 2 levels down the lineup, 2nd place drops 1 level and 3rd place is the booby prize, retaining the same car, but along with 1st & 2nd, he sits out the next race, while the 3 drivers initially sitting off get a chance to race against 4th, 5th, & 6th who stay on and retain the same car. As there's 3 drivers rotating on and off each time, it becomes progressively harder for a driver dropping to slower cars to win races against racers who've still got the faster cars from higher in the lineup. A random track generator, another piece of Famine's Excel wizardry helps to keep us all on our toes by throwing out the venues.
The first driver to progress all the way to the last car in the lineup, and take an outright race win is declared overall winner.
Our rides for this event in start ----> finish order:
1. Audi R8 01
2. Nissan R390 GT1 98
3. BMW McLaren F1 GTR 97
4. Chaparral 2D 67

Race 1: Twin Ring Motegi Road
The first race of the day sees juana b. stroll away with a maiden victory, beer fuelled all the way, while Touring Mars & Kylehnat have a hotly contested battle for the precious 2nd spot, which isn't without a bump or two.
V1P3R ,Strop & ceiling_fan stay on for race 2.

Race 2: Suzuka Circuit
With 1-2-3 from race 1 sitting out this time, alrivers, jump_ace & Smallhorses get a chance to race on an all Audi grid. A first lap incident that wipes out most of the field allows alrivers to pick his way through the carnage, and away to what seems like a certain win, until he spins out spectacularly later on and allows the battle for 2nd & 3rd to become the battle for 1st & 2nd! jump_ace wins from Smallhorses, and the recovered alrivers takes the booby spot ahead of V1P3R who finishes clear of a close 5th/6th battle between Strop & ceiling_fan, with the latter driver just sneaking home in front.

Race 3: Midfield
Touring Mars comes back on in the Audi, after his 3rd place in race 1, while juana b. drops to the McLaren, and Kylehnat into the Nissan.
Touring Mars who wins, is pushed all the way, by Kylehnat to take a second consecutive 2nd place and secures an immediate escape from the Nissan. ceiling_fan grabs his first podium of the weekend, although it means he gets a rest for a race, and will still drive the Audi next time out. A close fought battle takes place between the remaining Audis, with Strop just edging out V1P3R for 4th place, and juana b.'s outclassed McLaren finishes last, leaving him to stay on for race 4.

Race 4: El Capitan
1-2-3 from race 2 rejoin the fray, with some car changes, and finish 1-2-3 again, albeit inverted this time. alrivers escapes the Audi with his win, but as in the last race, it's under constant pressure from a Nissan, this time piloted by Smallhorses, although hitting the wall on the bridge a few times did little to assist the Audi in pulling away! A misunderstanding about the finish sees jump_ace pull over after lap 5 to allow everyone else to finish, while he was running in 3rd place! With the rules re-iterated (we run the full 6 laps, but if there's a close battle further back, then the leaders pull in just short of crossing the line to allow the battle to run to conclusion.) the standings are rectified, to give Jerome the dubious honour of taking 3rd place, meaning he'll sit off but hang onto the McLaren for race 6. juana b. brings the other McLaren home 4th, without too much argument since he gets to stay on in it for race 5! Two Audis round out the result.

Race 5: High Speed Ring
With Chris, Kyle & David reinstated for race 5, we have a grid made of 3 Audis and 3 McLarens. It's no surprise that there are audible groans from the McLaren pilots when the Random Track Generator (henceforth "RTG") throws High Speed Ring out! V1P3R capitalises immediately, putting his last place in race 4 behind him to romp to a win in the Audi. Strop, who has shown no signs of stroppyness, takes 2nd and also escapes the Audi. Touring Mars & juana b. do an impressive job of holding podium spots in the McLarens for a while until Josh slams head-on into the pit entry, which drops him from 3rd to last in a flash! The Audis eventually make it a 1-2-3, but ceiling_fan's 3rd place means he'll skip the next race while remaining the only driver yet to progress from the Audi.

The 3 McLarens from race 5, are joined by the 3 returning drivers, who've also all progressed as far as the McLaren. A guaranteed 1-2-3-4-5-6 for the McLaren then! jump_ace romps to victory, and another 2 car drop, while a great 3 way battle for 2nd place between alrivers, juana b. and Smallhorses comes to an abrupt end at Mulsanne Kink on lap 2, as we go in 3 abreast, but Smallhorses' car on the inside is squeezed a little too much! V1P3R makes his McLaren debut a whole lot more difficult for himself by accidentally selecting manual rather than his preferred automatic transmission, which gives him last place. Strop's first Nissan outing is marked with 4th place, keeping it in front of ceiling_fan's continued troubles with the Audi.

Smallhorses' McLaren leads by 14s going into the last lap until he suffers a breakdown in composure of Britney Spears-esque proportions, and ploughing every bit of grass around Fuji which allows ceiling_fan through for the win, and finally make his escape from the Audi! jump_ace does and admirable job of placing his Ford ahead of Strop's 4th placed Nissan and V1P3R's now automatic McLaren! alrivers seems unimpressed by his first foray in the 3 speed Chaparral.

Race 9: Tokyo R246 Reverse
The beginning of the end of Touring Mars' love affair with Tokyo (ref: post #47), sees his McLaren hare off into the lead, and he looks set to escape down to the Ford.
Not so.
A spin on lap 5 lets Strop's Nissan through for a debut SFGTP win , and Kylehnat to escape the Chaparral at the first time of asking. To add insult to injury, Touring Mars brings the McLaren home in the bogey spot, 3rd place, and books himself a seat on the sidelines for race 10, and the McLaren again for race 11!
Alex stays on in the Chaparral, while Nick (US Nick, i.e. V1P3R, not UK Nick, i.e. Smallhorses ) keeps hold of his McLaren for the next race, and Josh struggles with the Ford's appetite for front tyres.

The Chaparrals struggle here but it's Strop who takes 5th in his 1st outing in the 3-Speed demon ahead of alrivers whose 4th race in the 2D is as bad as his first!

A swift journey over to the Public Market for lunch takes place at this juncture, where a vast array of cross-cultural delights are eagerly consumed, before a rabble of replenished racers rapidly return from their repast, ready to resume the raucous revelry of running randomly requested races!
*Pant, Gasp, Wheeze!*
Race 12: Cote d'Azur
Jerome's first outing in the Chevy seems to be going wonderfully well as he streaks off into the distance in the second Sixties special to feature here. 👍 Sadly, Cote d'Azur is not the ideal circuit for a hugely powerful and torquey RWD car with its array of low speed corners, and his tyres meltdown on lap 3 like Mel Gibson while drink-driving! UK Nick in the Ford breaks his winless streak in by edging out Josh who also brings a Ford home in the places that count, after a magnificent battle, although both suffer with horrific understeer towards the end as their front tyres shred! Alex's run of unhappiness in the Chaparral continues as he brings it home in his highest position yet, but only succeeds in making sure it'll be the same ride for him in race 14!

Race 13: Seattle Reverse
Next up is Seattle, backwards. This doesn't phase Kyle though as he takes a maiden SFGTP win in his first outing in a new car (this time the Honda), on his home circuit. Chris also ensures his revisit to the hotseats is a brief one, bringing his newly acquired Ford home in 2nd spot to secure an instant demotion (which is actually the idea here! 💡) 13 is unlucky for someone though, and it's US Nick, whose reward for his best placing in the McLaren to date, is to sit off the next race, and keep the McLaren for race 15.
Jerome is beginning to get the hang of the Chevy's tyre hunger, and manages 4th place this time out.

Not such a great place to get stuck in a Chevy either, and the pairing of Smallhorses & jump_ace bring up the rear here! ceiling_fan's 2nd victory excuses him from more McLaren misery, and alrivers is delighted with his 2nd place, escaping at last from the Chaparral's hold at the 6th time of asking. juana b.'s maiden voyage in the Honda only results in a guaranteed repeat drive for race 16, while Strop takes his highest Chaparral placement yet, stealing 4th from Smallhorses' Chevy on the last straight!

Touring Mars once again marks his return with an immediate departure! The 3rd driver to use the Honda, he steams off to a win ahead of a Battle Royale betwixt the Chevy's of Jerome & UK Nick, who swap places regularly throughout the laps, with Jerome's escape from the Chevy only fractionally confirmed at the line from UK Nick's condemnation to a race on the sidelines with a Chevy relapse to look forward to! (This was one of my favourite races of the weekend though! 👍) For a while it seems like US Nick is going to run away with the spoils as he leads in the McLaren for a couple of laps before spinning out. Kylehnat being the first driver to experience the Altezza is able to finish 4th.

(This after recovering from a 2nd lap spin too! ) juana b.'s Honda holds off a late charge from the second Honda of alrivers. Somehow Smallhorses is able to pilot the tyre-shredding Chevy to a walk-in-the-park victory here ahead of a monstrous battle between David's Ford and Kyle's Toyota. It's ceiling_fan whose 2nd outing in the V8 Supercar is rewarded with a drop in the lineup, while Kylehnat's best Toyota performance is marked by winning the booby prize of a seat on the sidelines! Touring Mars is leading when a questionable move from jump_ace drops him back to second. Not sure if this is a hangover from the 5th/6th battle in the last race, but insult is added to injury when alrivers passes both to take the win in the Honda, and Chris is left with the Toyota for another race after a 3rd place finish. Josh* & US Nick both get to grips with new cars in this race, while Craig's learning curve continues with another outing in the Chaparral on a track he's never driven round backwards before!
* it's just been pointed out to me (by Josh!!!) that I buggered things up a bit here, allowing Josh to somehow drop 2 cars for a 2nd place finish, and thus avoid the Chevy. Apologies to all, I'm not as infallible as Famine!

Craig hooks up the Chaparral in the last 2 laps, rising from 6th to 4th ahead of the 2 Nicks, V1P3R's Ford taking a second consecutive 5th place, and Smallhorses' efforts at showing off the Peugeot for the first time ending in squirrelly tyre-smoking spins as he tries to tame it's surprisingly unpredictable back end!

Event 2: Gentlemen's Agreement Pick'n'Mix
6 cars, 6 races for each driver, each driver can pick each car once and once only. Less of a logistical nightmare to organise for 9 drivers on 1 6-way LAN, than the ordeal that the UKGTPers had fitting 21 folks onto 18 machines!!!
Points are scored in the old F1 format, 10 points for a win, 6 for 2nd place, 4 for 3rd, and 3,2,1 for 4th, 5th & 6th respectively.
Winner is simply the driver with highest points tally at the end (or jump_ace if you're really not into suspense!!! )
The choices for the first P'n'M of the weekend are 6 extremely closely matched road cars from Japan, where the so called "Gentlemen's Agreement" between the manufacturers led to 6 flagship vehicles which all show 276HP on paper......but not when you get them home!!!

Day 2. Sunday October 28th 2007.
After quite a late Saturday evening out for food and quite a few pitchers of "Fat Tire" ale at the Broken Rack, we bid goodnight to Strop & Kylehnat who retired to their respective hotels, while jump_ace & Touring Mars accompanied the Smallhorseses back to the race venue, and proceeded to attack a rather good bottle of Glenfiddich 18yr Malt Whisky.
Sadly both V1P3R & juana b. have prior commitments for Sunday, and their presence both on & off-track is missed by all.
A schoolboy error sees Smallhorses up bright and early at 8am, ready to listen to the coverage of the Liverpool vs. Arsenal English Premier League game, and it takes a while for it to register, that the coverage isn't on in time. Why? Our hungover host has forgotten that Daylight Savings time ended in the UK, and we're now only 7 hours behind England, instead of our usual 8!!! While Touring Mars still snoozes on the sofa-bed, I was able to creep back upstairs, get up properly, and come down again to wake everyone up with the screaming kettle!
Properly breakfasted, & with football commentary in full flow, ceiling_fan's arrival is marked by a sudden request for all present to try and free a stranded BMW. (I'll leave David to reveal details if he wishes....)
Kyle and Craig arrive shortly afterwards and since we'd had a call from Alex to let us know he was "on his way", but from Sacramento (where he's been partying into the wee-hours) instead of SF, we decided to kill some time while waiting for him. 6 machines had their "Favourites" replenished with Sunday's rides, and the networked connects first time! 👍
Event 3: Triumph Spitfire Trophy (Round 1)
We elect to run a special request from ceiling_fan, a Triumph Spitfire Trophy, while we await our straggler! With 6 racers present, there's no need for qualifying heats, everyone is in the instant final!
He even has a particular track in mind, Trial Mountain Reverse, and so our 6 racers take to the grid in a dizzying array of 70s colours that seem specifically designed to make your eyes bleed!
(This appears to be trademark of the 70s cars, with some of the Dodge & Plymouth rides having a quite nauseating array of virulent shades available! )

Event 4: Clio Endurance.
....until we had 3 teams of 2, and 1 leftover. It was thus decided that Smallhorses would handicap each team equally by driving one stint for each team! The rapidly-becoming-a-worldwide-LAN-signature-event saw us taking the little Renaultsport Clio V6 Race Cars to Special Stage Route 5 Reverse.
Teams were determined by pairing the highest-ranked driver so far with the lowest-ranked driver so far, then the second-highest-ranked with the second-lowest-ranked....
(Hey, why write all the rest of the blurb when it's already there in "The Ocho" thread!!! It's becoming a worldwide-LAN-signature-event, right?!!! )
Allowing "Los Dos" & "The Ocho" some direct crossover, it means that no-less than 26 drivers all took part in the same event at some point over the weekend, albeit some 7 hours later than others!

DQ Team Alonso (Found to be using unfair advantage to set fast laps, such as testing data from at least 2 sources!)
By this point it's decided to go to a vote:
A) run a single handicap event in the afternoon, or B) run 2 x Pick'n'Mix events.
There are a lot of B's.
After we evacuate the garage, to avoid getting stung, and the B's are exterminated, we resume a couple of Pick'n'Mixes.
Sorry, it's TM's influence!!!!
(Yes, I know it should technically be "Bs" not "B's" but I didn't want anyone thinking there was a lot of BS!!! So B's is easier to distinguish! )
Event 5: JGTC(500) Pick'n'Mix
Same format and rules as Event 2, but this time with slightly more feisty steeds! A closely matched selection of Japanese Touring Cars allows for some of the most exciting competition of the weekend!

Event 6: Performance Car Pick'n'Mix
Again, same concept as Event 2, but what to name it? In the end I settled for Performance cars. Yup, seriously. These things are all quick, but don't share a drivetrain layout, country of origin or body style. They all lap the 3 test circuits used for lineup analysis within 1.6 secs of each other, and closeness is what counts here. Again some stonkingly good races, and of course the source of the clip that opens this post!

Event 7: Triumph Spitfire Trophy (Round 2)
Same as Event 3 but on Apricot Hill Reverse, and with another twist!
Car: Triumph Spitfire 1500 '74 : Everyone
Track: Apricot Hill Reverse
* Craig makes use of a little loophole here, being neither a DS2er or DFPer, but a G25ist! Given the fact that this'll only be his 2nd outing in a Triumph Spitfire, and 1st time ever at Apricot Hill Reverse, he's allowed to carry on G25ing!
Since I didn't write down the results of this race, I'm not sure who came in 2nd & 3rd and in which order. I'm certain that David & I finished 6th and 5th respectively in our quest to leave no corner of any sandtrap unexplored, and no piece of grass unmown! Tarmac? Schmarmac!
Result:-
1st jump_ace DFP
2nd Touring Mars (?) DFP
3rd alrivers (?) DFP
4th Strop G25
5th Smallhorses DS2
6th ceiling_fan DFP
Be patient....
