So, they think that doing this is actually accomplishing something? What on earth could this accomplish!?
Terror. Economic chaos. The whole city is shut down. $Millions of dollars that would have been spent in Paris tonight will go unspent. How busy do you think theatres will be in the next few months? Downtown in general? Shopkeepers big and small will pay a rather large price for this, some may lose their businesses. It's a long list..

And how exactly does that help them at all?

Publicity.

A few days in the limelight is all the want, and the only way they can do it is by doing something that causes international panic.

Apparently the siege is over at the theatre. The entire country is now in a state of emergency and borders are closed as previously mentioned.

I heard about this on the way home, it's very sad indeed. Of course there's plenty going on surrounding the attacks themselves that sicken me...

It's actually darkly amusing how counterproductive the huge scale terrorist attacks are. The little things people take in stride, and sometimes are even willing to sympathize with. But things like this and 9/11 are the kinds of things that cause governments to basically throw away rulebooks and actually get their hands dirty.

Religion of peace, right?

Isolated incidents, right?

Schengen had better be abolished as soon as possible. Too much human-shaped garbage getting across the borders.

Well, think about the word: terrorist. They want to show that they are ''strong'', they want to scare everyone.
That's the worst thing about them, they're not common criminals, they don't care about death, you can't ''talk'' with them. They don't want to achieve something logical...well, from our point of view. For them, in their madness, this is the right thing to do.

Dozens of deaths reported in the theatre.
This is how it looks like on a fridaynight during a popular rock concert:

Shooting people at point blank and explosives too, i fear the worst.

They reckon only 60-100 were in the venue (Uk News)

They hate us. Doing economic damage makes them feel better and it hurts us. They see us as smug, arrogant, decadent, infidels you name it and costing us money, which they believe is the temple we pray at, makes them think they are really damaging us. They likely believe that terrorizing ordinary citizens will make them think twice about supporting any government action in the middle east.
