Lots of goodies this past week. I grabbed my usual Silver Age
Betty and Veronica,
Hawkman, and
Doom Patrol digital comics. Got a couple of
Wonder Woman comics, too. One from the ‘50s, and one from last year. I’ve fallen a bit behind on the modern run, so I’m slowly catching up. Also grabbed some
My Little Pony comics. They’re written by Jeremy Whitley, one of my favorite comics writers. I was a big fan of the five-issue
Money Shot comic when it came out in “The Before Times” (2019). So I was surprised to learn five more issues came out and I never knew it. I got them as soon as I found out. It’s a hilarious premise. Aliens land on Earth and offer to let us join them. And then they realize how screwed up we are and withdraw the offer. So a scientist devises a way to go exploring in space, but it’s expensive. Her solution? Become porn stars. Seek out new worlds, discover new life, and **** it. They then sell subscriptions to their website where you can watch some truly out of this world porn. The comic itself isn’t porn, but it’s very sexy and fun and smart. The last comic I got is an
Archies one-shot about the gang taking their band on the road. The cover is by the great Jaime Hernandez, co-creator with his brother Gilberto of the classic indie comic
Love & Rockets. Jaime’s comic art was always heavily influenced by classic Archie artists like Dan Decarlo, so it’s full circle for him to be creating covers for Archie now. I got two new RiffTrax,
Double Dragon and
Fungicide and I just finished watching
Phantom From Space, a live stream from The Mads, Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff. This one included guest Bill Corbett in a Q&A session afterwards. Finally I got the newest filter set from Hipstamatic, the San Diego Hipstapak. Seriously, if you have an iPhone, Hipstamatic is the photo app you need.
