I think I need some help....

My three BFG 8800GTX cards are up for sale on ebay, to be replaced by this little gem:
MHandler.ashx

Whats next? Are you going to quad SLI those?

It would have to be triple. As far as I know you can't run four GPUs in SLI besides two 9800GX2s.

Pako, we've got the same problem I think. I just got my second GTX 260 SSC in today, and placed the order for a Corsair 1KW PSU, Intel E8400, and another 4GB of G.Skill to round out the order and qualify for no interest. :nervous:

CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Retail

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI - Retail

Arctic Silver ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier - OEM

That's it. This computer will be upgraded to the max, short of upgrading video cards, which isn't going to happen. A bit more hard drive space may be added next year.

So, Pako, why did you go from Triple-SLI to a single GTX? I'm almost certain that will be a downgrade for now. I'd have went with two air cooled 280s for 1.5x the price of the liquid cooled one...once you figure in the price of the liquid cooling it makes it even anyway. My 260 runs surprisingly cool with an overclock.

The GT BMX looks great! Nice fix. I'd love a BMX, there's a skatepark opened a few hundred yards from my office but no-one ever uses it.

It's really a sickness isn't it?

Anyways, I ordered this one because I had the money now for it. Once I sell my three 8800GTX cards, I will SLI the two 280's. Buying the card with the water block on it already, I will be saving close to $70 plus the pain of the install. I wanted to water cool anyways, so this kind of forces the issue. :)

Next on my shopping list is a CPU and NB water block, pump, rad, and res. I'm hoping to get by with one loop and a 120.3 radiator. We'll see. A 120.2 radiator would be better for space and my case, but I don't think it will provide enough cooling.

I decided on the single card because an overclocked version will be really close to performance as the 3-way SLI setup. There will be a LOT LESS heat from one card. Those three 8800's could cook a hot dog. Water cooling is an added feature. The cost for just the water blocks for three of those 8800's from Dangerden would have been close to the cost of this GTX280 card. It just made sense.

So when's your setup going to be ready to rock?

:D

Just placed the order about an hour before that post...so I'm guessing it might be here monday. I'm not looking forward to squeezing that PSU in. That's a huge power supply and I'm going to have to take the motherboard out I think. I'll probably have to remove my top fan, but that hasn't been plugged in in ages as the fan controller didn't want to work anymore.

Maybe FSX will be nice at 1920x1080 after this? The Core 2 Duo should be running 3.8Ghz at the least.

I got me a Antec Plus 1080AMG File Server Case for 20 bucks.

I'm making it into a desktop within 10-11 months. I'm thinking of asking my dad to make extra vents for it(like over the top to let the density of heat to take over) one day.

GRID

Epic. I've spent far too much time playing it already. The Lacetti BTCC car is my favorite by-far...

I had purchased this TV a few weeks ago but just came in a couple days ago. Did a bit of an upgrade for the bedroom. I was previously working with an ancient 32" tube TV inside an entertainment center. All my good stuff was out in the living room. Got tired of that so I picked up a 50" 1080p Samsung plasma to replace the old crap. I didn't have a table to set underneath it yet so I sat three of my JDM ITR wheels down there that I'm not using with some shelves from the old entertainment center as a temporary table :) I kinda like it! I have a spare Xbox 360 that I'm putting in here as well.

That makes a pretty expensive TV stand. ;) Also, the H's are crooked. If you're gonna do it, do it right. :dopey:

Buying TVs online. I'm interested (though not at the moment), but is it safe? Seems like something could easily go wrong in handling. Anyone ever have a problem?

That was more true five or more years ago if you were still in the market for a 250lb 40" CRT DVTV or RPTV... because they were a pain to ship back if there was ever a problem... and CRTs were susceptible to alignment issues from improper handing.

Digital displays are far more stable, and very safe and easy to ship. If you think about it, they have to ship them to the store any way. All you are doing is saving yourself the hassle of having to drive to a store, pack it up, and drive it home.

There are online retailers that have been in business for more than a decade and have impeccable reputations for customer service and free returns.

Combine some of the lowest prices, no sales tax, often free shipping, and a good return policy and throw in the added convenience of shopping at home, avoiding bad salesmen, choosing from a much wider selection of products, and having it delivered to your door... It's really hard to beat online shopping.

With only a few exceptions, like Costco, I purchase most things these days online, including things far bigger than a TV, like a new refrigerator.

Where are you ordering from? I know Newegg uses some other carrier for TVs, who obviously specialize in doing so and take special care of them. If you don't feel comfortable letting one get shipped, see if a local retailer will price match. I got lucky and was able to have Best Buy price match the AQUOS from Newegg's price. Their policy explicitly states that they only price match for online retailers who have a brick and mortar store within x miles. I'd still make an attempt to get a price match at a Best Buy if one is local to you, act ready to leave if they won't match it. Keep in mind that they will likely include their competitor's shipping with the price you'll pay at Best Buy. You can't really argue your way out of that one.

Edit: Also meant to mention what D-N said about a TV having to be shipped regardless, since it goes to the retailer also.

Oh, I'm not ordering anything at all and have no plans on ordering a TV at the moment; I was just curious. I don't think I'd trust UPS with a 60 pounds somewhat fragile instrument of awesome.

I just imagined that when stores order TVs they are shipped much more safely to the store than they would be to your front door.

I doubt there’d be much difference. When I used to work at Sears, I quite often opened up boxes and found broken merchandise inside.

Not really a purchase as I won it in the office prize draw last night. Nokia E71...

Bought 10 gallons of Shell V-Power at $1.89/gallon. Seems like it makes a difference. Throttle response appears to have improved and it feels like there's more power from 2000-3500rpm.

Anyone else using it?

And several HDMI cables and a switch came in from Monoprice today. Two black 6ft cables, one blue 3ft, and one blue 1.5ft. All of that was in preparation for DirecTV to be installed....on the 30th. :indiff:

Edit: And I got an ETA on my computer hardware. Friday!

Textbooks, at the cheapest prices possible online. Would've cost over $500 at the school bookstore.

No different to buying it in a store with a large stock warehouse. When you realise just how much packaging is in those boxes you'll realise that unless the box is visibly damaged to a serious extent, everything inside will be fine.

I only use Shell, switching to anything else gives me worse fuel economy for some reason.

Get some wheel chocks, and paint them white.

That towel will lose points with the Concours crowd.

Well, either way, it's arriving to a a store by truck; when ordering it, it's just going to come
to your home via another truck. This way, they deliver it to your door, since if you
drop it or get in a car accident on the way home, it's not covered by warranty. If they drop
it, it's on them. Just another safety net, I suppose, and generally anything over $500 comes
with free shipping.

Mind you, I still have the same 35" JVC old-style CRT I bought ten years ago, I'm just waiting
for it's clock to run out (which with a two-year old and her newly-discovered pitching arm,
might be sooner than later).
