I think you are the only person I have ever heard say a Compaq served them well.

It's my Third HP/Compaq, and the other two were used laptops (which had really been trashed by my half-brother), and they served me well.

Besides, it's really all I could afford with these specs, I would've gotten another brand somewhere else, but $100 of my money was on Walmart giftcards.

May I ask though, what reason do you have for me to take it back?

From,
Chris.

I have a Compaq.

They never gave me what I ordered. They never gave we what I was entitled to. They lied about their 'one year service protection' or 'one year of free PC help.' When you call their PC help line, that they do offer for free, they just switch you to a recording for a website address, which doesn't help much if your PC won't work in the first place.

Worst company I've ever had to deal with. I strongly believe Compaq PCs are made with crappy or broken HP components and the worst HP employees answer the Compaq phone lines.

Plus, I know two other people who got the same treatment. We all swore not to let anybody else make the same mistake we made.

But, if you felt you had to buy a Compaq, I suggest you check and test everything out and make sure you get a backup disc of Windows XP/Vista.

That's the difference though, I have never gotten accurate support from any "Customer Service" of any company. EA sent me the wrong Guitar when I needed a new RB one, my phone company/ISP has never been able to solve a problem correctly, or do anything more than a workaround.

I've just learnt to fix my own stuff, and anything I can't do, my dad usually can.

BTW, I've already tested everything, even the Lightscribe I will probably never use, and it's all in perfect working order. Backup discs are kept in safe places.

Chris.

My Compaq did it's job for 8 years until I bought the laptop. While it wasn't the greatest piece of equipment from day one, it still did all that I ever asked from it with minimal complaining.

Hopefully you got one like mine and not Solid's, WR.

I have a Compaq Presario. The video card wasn't very good from the get-go, but it has served me well over the years.

This Video card is 128MB, so not very good, but I plan on upgrading later on (Motherboard has a PCI slot for a video card to be hooked up), but it will probably need a better power supply.

Get the most powerful power supply you can. It's better to be safe.

I'm running a 32mb GeForce 4 Go.

I respectfully disagree. There is no way he would ever need more than a 600w PSU for this computer, even at 600w, it would be over-kill.

In regards to Compaq's, I have had mostly good luck with their business line of products, solid build quality. In fact, I have still have some Compaq's in service at work that are over 10 years old (I have a file server that I am actually replacing next week, not because it's broken, but because it's old....). One thing I hate about Compaq's is their proprietary design for what should be standard hardware. There was a time, however, in the mid to late 90's that their quality control sucked for their personal line of computers. I grouped Compaqs' with Packard-Bell (not as quality as the UK line) or even eMachines. I have no idea how their quality is now but hope you have a good service plan. I imagine most parts are coming out of the same factory anyways, so it shouldn't make much difference what badge is on the front.

In any case Chris, congrats on the new machine. Hope you get many years of use out of it. 👍

Lol, I didn't think you'd take that seriously. Liquid Silver (liquified Ag. As Taco Bell would say: melty) is out there, but I think it would be a little hot and a little expensive. ;)

Would be cool if they could make terminator style liquid metal at room temp that conducted heat as well as silver.

Doh! I hear ya. You know, it's hard to hear the sarcasm in your voice over the internet.
I actually did find a computer system that's liquid cooled called "Liquid Silver" while I was trying to figure out what the heck you were talking about. ;)

I blame Brad for getting me into them recently. :P

Lonsdale jacket and pants, and also a pair of shorts for Gym.

After going through three shavers in a year I decided to buy one that cost more then $30 this time. It's a Panasonic Arc 4 Nanotech, awesome shaver probably the closest shave I've ever had.
Try a razor, then tell me how close that thing gets. I have thick facial hair and no electric shaver has ever managed to do a good job. It always leaves a faint shadow, and a just barely noticeable stubble feel. A razor though, smooth. Some are better than others, but the cheapest razors have been better than the best electric shavers I have tried.

All that said, I gave up on electric shavers ten years ago, with the exception of a cheap-o cordless for using in the car when I don't have time to shave before work.

And I got a good deal on a set of four Pistons tickets.
TEYSHAUN PRINCE BABY!!!!

The prince of Kentucky now reigns in Detroit. He is the sole reason I watch any NBA games. Although lately I have been watching Rajon Rondo in Boston too.

Among other things, two pairs of Playstation Sleep Shorts in tin containers for $5.
Where did you get those? They are awesome. And what is that free sticker on the side for?

Kohls. They also had X360, Wii, The Grinch and Guitar Hero.

As for the sticker, I don't even remember. When you have kids in your house, stickers don't last long.

Or they end up everywhere.

These were the former.

Now there is a coincidence. I just had a pair of khakis get torn and was planning on running by there soon anyway.

Blackberrry 8830 World Edition, got it off ebay for about $115.

This thing its freaking awesome, direct access to facebook, myspace, msn messenger, aim, and a ssh client so I can manage all my Counter-Strike source servers anywhere.

I can say it too. Got an old Compaq Presario 5000 series, made in 2000. Still kicking with the original motherboard, power supply, and hard drive. The rest has all been upgraded, but never because of a failure. That was my file server for a while, and now a newer Compaq Evo with a 1.8 P4 and 2 gigs of RAM has taken the spot right next to it (literally). Got the second one for ten bucks, so its worth the extra Folding@home performance it'll give, even if I don't (can't) notice a difference using it as a server anymore.
