Got a new book. "The Rookie" by Scott Sigler, Limited Edition, numbered, and signed.

Here is the synopisis:

No, I don't think so. I bought it via a link form the official website that led me to the online Stardock store. Afterwards I downloaded Impulse, downloaded my games and registered the product with the serial numbers I recieved from Stardock.

I have to say though, Stardock's desktop programs are crap, but with their games and Impulse, I am very pleased. I took only 5 minutes between ordering my products and recieving an e-mail with the serial keys and the links to download the games 👍

He is a self-made author. He began a few years back just putting his books online as audiobooks broken up in weekly podcasts, which is now known as podiobooks. Due to gaining 30,000 fans a week he eventually landed a publishing deal, but still puts all of his work online in audio form for free.

The Rookie is one that he self-published since his current contract has an official Rookie printing a few years off yet.


In case you didn't catch it, you can get this in audiobook form for free at his Web site (he's also on iTunes). If you like it support him by buying it in print and then check out his other stuff, and then follow links to other up and coming authors on his site. I should also note that his other books Earthcore, Infected, and Contagious (sequel to Infected) also take place in The Rookie universe, although in modern day. He has a side project called The Crypt that takes place about one generation before The Rookie, and a collaborative work called Title Fight that features an interspecies MMA battle during the same time frame as The Rookie.

This is the literature world's version of musicians putting their music on iTunes and then getting a record deal out of it.


And Scott has a good back and forth with his fans on his forums, but you should address him as Future Dark Overlord, or The FDO (TM), because he intends to take over the world.

Earlier today I came home with a pair of these:

Nike Bauer Vapor XXV hockey skates. They were previously 1 step down from top-of-the-line until the redo of the lineup for this season. Normally $350 skates on sale for $250, and they blow the crappy $99 low-end ones I've been wearing out of the water. I would have paid almost the same for an '09 skate that was lower in the product line.

So with the recent pistol purchase and now these, it looks like I'm done spending for a while.
