Must be a game thing then. The version of B Spec in GT5 is so unoptimized that it makes me think if it's still just a beta version that they're trying to promote with a competition.

jesus christ, was on track for a 12:55:9xx @ Sarthe was just starting porche curves on last lap and everything goes black and I am watching a dark TV and no sound. My youngest kid (1yo) pulled the powercord on all electrial equipment in the living room. Had to sit down and count to 10 there.. oh well, now I know my driver can do it, just have to try and replicate it, still sucks though :)

Man, at lweast the PS3 still works=)) Imagine if we had to have a mojor ps3 HD crash now being on level 40.. i would cry..

Now 1st at Le Mans in my region, 2nd at Monza and 3rd at Tsukuba.

Here is what concerns me though.

I spent an entire day trying to improve my time at Tsukuba however I believe my driver has reached his limit and this is where this element of the game fails. Because it's a computer driving the car his 'need' to do better is not there.

For example, no matter which order of commands I give my driver, no matter how good my starts are, no matter if I time my commands to the 1/1000th or just leave him alone he will always do the following kind of lap times between lap 5 and lap 9:

xx.1
xx.2
xx.4
xx.5
xx.1

Even the sector times are down to 0.05 in terms of his consistency on each lap. Twice now I have done a total time which is exactly the same, that is, down to the final diget. It's incredibly frustrating.

Anyway, I will be trying with a newly trained driver today to see if he seems more susceptible to different commands during the race.

Sigh.

I found the same thing as well with my drivers (and getting the exact same total time).

If anything the place where you can really find the time is how quickly you can get past the A.I.

if it helps i tried a thread about a cheat there maybe in the system, as in one night a guy came from nowhere to 1st on all 5 races. Sorry but thats impossible mid way in the comp. this guy wasnt even in the top 10, As surely there has to be some algorithm code of what button needs to be pressed when. or we would all get the same times pretty much, and not so many seconds differances. As no doubt the top 10 all have ranked 40 drivers/bobs thus its a matter of pressing what button when. As i was 4th out of all the 5 races, i was first on a few races but the larger sarthe im like 6 sec from the first guy hence it doesnt matter if your first in 3 of the 5 as the time differance is weather we make it to the next stage or not.

So I did a excel spreadsheet on the top 10 guys so i could see the movers and shackers and see come the end how many seconds were needed to be in the top 2. Thus able to note how this 1 guy came form nowhere, and us other guys are now fighting for the second spot for the comp.

This may just be going off your name but, kidnplay01, you know you need to have a full (not provisional) licence to progress in this competition?

huh what 1 guy? there are noone with times that are not doable on the world ranking. If the 12:57 on sarthe is bothering you, you should really take a look at the french times.

It is not really impossible to get to 1st on all tracks in a day (regionwise atleast) once you "get" what this competition is and how b-spec works you can get quite high ranks if your driver is semi-decent.
Do not think "cheat" when you get beaten, there might be people who just are better gamers with better insight to the game mode.

Ah I disagree man (depending on the region), by the end of this competition i'll have spent easily hundreds and hundreds of hours on these 5 tracks

Where is this spreadsheet you speak of? It's not in the other thread and if I don't see it I don't believe it.

EDIT: How many bobs do you have on level 40 by the way? You'll need a nice variation in their temperaments and speed components (braking, cornering, overtaking) if you want to do well in particular circuits.

I got to first in all tracks on my region on new years eve, and even if I did not improve on those times I would still be leading my region, so it is not something you can disagree on since it is a fact really, though my region is one of the weaker ones, it still counts :)

You're lucky to be in that region!
Great times though nonetheless. 👍

Did you actually enjoy getting your drivers trained up for this competition and grinding the 5 tracks to get those sort of times Marxgorm?

EDIT: Did anyone?!?

wow, well, that's impressive.

i dunno im just saying from my experience spending 30 hours on a track... its surprising...

i need to find out the secret im missing

is it worth bothering witht his now, am getting my driver to be level 40 (currently doing a 24hr race) hes level 37 at the moment. or will it be near impossible?

No, I did not enjoy leveling them up, but I LOVE the grind for the times, atleast for the first 3 weeks.
I am statistical geek so I enjoy "figuring out" b-spec and when I discoverd the "secrets" early in the competition (I think only Ken-Atlas from the french region did it earlier than me) the times got good really fast, improved about 20 seconds on total time in one night.
As for luck on my region I think It might be a bit of a morale crusher for the people in my region to make valid atempts on my times since they are quite high on the global charts, was in the top 5 worldwide for the first 2 weeks of the competition. I think the region average would be higher if I did not participate.
But a lot of stuff can happen and I am not confident about winning it yet.

Wrigg The Uk region is not super strong but it would be pretty hard and almost impossible to take it in a week yes.

danben Don't get me wrong I still have 30+ hours on every track for my current times, but the original ones I set on new years are just about 10 seconds off the total time I have now and I lead my region with about 12 seconds.

Stats on games are quite fun but this competition pushes how much data you have to collect and the time you need to invest to the extreme! (30+ hours/track = 150+ hours total over the holiday period?!? ).

The prize is worthwhile but I probably won't buy another premium edition copy of Gran Turismo again just to take part in another B-Spec competition because it just takes way too much time and effort.

EDIT: Good luck to everyone who's taking part. There's officially just one week and seven hours left before the servers stop taking in times.

No, no you don't ;) :)

Haha, sure I do, first or second is good enough to progress. :)

You should see the amount of papers on my floor and desk at home, haha :ouch::ouch::ouch:

I'm planning to do the same. I have only attempted the first track once with no real strategy. The Irish people in the game are very fast which us UK guys have to beat. I'm sure they were ahead of some of your times so I think our region is quite strong. It will be quite embarrassing for the UK region if it loses to Ireland completely for the two spots.

whops, you are correct, I thought the Irish were italian (I sit a bit too far from my TV)

We will catch the Irish! ....hopefully

I added the top 20 times for each track in a spreadsheet last night top 5 uk and Ireland are as follows:

Guyfos
Brambi-Dublin +6.347
Chilvas +8.399
Oldbeane +8.744
Andy_616 +11.036

Guyfos is going to be very hard to catch but there's a few English with a good chance of catching Brambi-Dublin.

I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO READ THE ENTIRE THREAD SO CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF THE COMPETITION ENDS AT THE END OF jANUARY OR JUST THE SIGN UP PERIOD?tHANK YOU!!

No need for the caps, but the qualification for the RL final ends at the end of january yes.

Done 20 hours of Tsukuba over the last 3 days and improved .165.. not a good way to spend my time it seems, I think I got it figured out how to break into the 9:55's though, just got to keep hammering it to try to get it.. got until thursday before I move on to Sarthe to get the 12:55 there sometime before the competition ends, mighe ven have time to polish monza a bit more even. Glad it is over soon.
edit: hmm, down to 9:56:582 now, so total improvement of .730 still almost a second behind the 2 people in the 9:55 club, starting to run out of ideas..

Anyone else doing this comp been driving and you see an SLK and think 'meh, not as good as my sls will be' lmao

All the time! There is a Mercedes Benz dealership up the road from me. Literally 2 minutes away. My mate told me at work yesterday that they got a red SLS there and his brother went to look at it. Their boss at Alfa took the appies to check it out. Its the red one. I called them yesterday to check if it was still there I wanted to go see it, but its only going to be back at the end of the week or next week. I was maybe hoping for a little extra motivation... Not that i need more=))
